    So yeah, Escaflowne didn't particularly improve. What a crushing disappointment. Luckily, I started (or re-started) Cowboy Bebop soon after, and the taste of mediocre fantasy anime has been thoroughly washed away. Only two episodes in at the moment, but this is even more awesome than I remember it being. Superb directorial craftsmanship and probably the best soundtrack the medium has to offer. Can't wait to actually finish it this time.

    I say give yourself some time to digest it and then try out the Rebuilds. Some consider them better. I don't, obviously, but they're fun in their own right.

    The Triforce Quest was my favorite part of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker because it enabled my weird pirate fixation. ...yeah, that's all I have at the moment.

    My favorite game is probably The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, but I've always hated how easy it is. Enemies do minuscule damage. Hearts and ammo pop up way too often. I remember trying to up the challenge by going for a "no heart" run, and at times I found myself having to dodge those hearts since the game was practically throwing them at me. "Heal! Heal, you poor baby!" It was absurd. Agro's occasional unresponsiveness is something I really liked, actually. He felt like a real animal. Wonderful game.

    I'm about 7 episodes away from finishing the The Vision of Escaflowne. It's kinda fun, but terribly underwhelming considering the great things I'd heard about it. For what's supposed to be a sprawling epic fantasy, the plot has an all-too-narrow focus on love triangles that makes the whole thing feel small. I want less of this stuff and more world-building. Preferably world-building that isn't delivered through the lengthy exposition dumps the show seems so fond of. Dilandau is amazing though. Best part of the show and at the moment I'm a little irritated because he's been MIA for several episodes.

    -I don't care much for shipping. I've done it before in the name of lighthearted fun, but the widespread fascination with this stuff mystifies me. -On a similar note, I have very little interest in what a character gets up to outside the confines of their canonical media. Barring a few one-shots, I don't think I've ever finished a fanfic. -A character's "likability" is absolutely irrelevant to me. One of my favorite characters happens to be a loser with very few redeeming qualities. I like him for the nuances of his portrayal, not how much I'd want to be his friend.

    Princess Mononoke Rewatched for the first time since I was in high school. Phenomenal stuff, marred slightly by a bloated final act that doesn't seem to know when to quit (too much animation excess, too little drama). It doesn't kill the movie by any means, but it's frustrating because the first two-thirds offer up some of the most perfectly paced epic storytelling since Seven Samurai. Still adored it though.

    Haven't seen much from this year, since I've had increasingly little interest in catching up with contemporary cinema. My favorites so far would be Boyhood, The Lego Movie and The Grand Budapest Hotel. Fourth place would go to Birdman, I guess, but the more I think about that one, the less I like it.

    I can't summon up much anger at this. Not because I think it's a good idea (I'm fairly neutral on it), but because I'm not all that invested in Toy Story as a franchise. Didn't think the third one was all that great, frankly. Wake me up when Inside Out gets here.

    Been catching up with a few anime classics in my spare time. Viewings in the last two weeks have been Laputa: Castle in the Sky, Porco Rosso and Ghost in the Shell. I'd write detailed impressions but I have next to zero energy these days so I'll just say that they were good. With Porco Rosso being the good-est.
