  1.

You basically summed up what I've been trying to say since Saturday except people actually listen to you since you're a mod.

Naw, man. Peeps listen to Evilshy because he is bucking Evilshy. Not listening to Evilshy is the last mistake that this other clown made. Last week, there was this dark alley and there was Evilshy. The dark alley didn't listen to Evilshy. About 5 minutes later, it ceased to exist. Did you know that Evilshy was Chuck Norris's advisor? Yeah, that's right, Evilshy advises Chuck Norris. See, that's why people listen to Evilshy. Because he's Evilshy. Don't forget it, and make sure that you listen to Evilshy. If you don't. Well... It was nice knowing you.

  2. Is it just me, or has there been an influx of low blog ratings lately?

It isn't just you. I've seen it as well, and I am beginning to rethink the existence of ratings. Ratings exist to rate the quality of the content. You should not click 1-star because you don't agree with something. If you disagree, state your opinion in the comments - not the ratings. Savaging someones blog rating because they posted a controversial opinion is NOT what good discussion is about, and if someone is not here for discussion then they need to check their motivations at the door. You wouldn't walk on your mother's carpet with filthy shoes, don't walk all over someone's blog with 1-star ratings that are based on opinion.

  3. This blog was a mistake. People are not understanding what my point was. I'm starting to get annoyed now.

Time to become a Rarity fan I guess, cause apparently that will make people happy.

Rainbow Dash is my favorite pony. She is headstrong and opinionated. She is also strong and very capable within her area of focus. She is a leader, but a brash one. She is willing to lay it on the line for her friends. She is a dedicated athlete, but she is a bit on the lazy side. I like her a lot, because she reminds me of most of my greatest friends in real life.

If you are an Rainbow Dash fan, then you are in good company. However, Pinkie Pie and Rarity are also my favorite ponies. I have gone to bat for Rarity on this site many, many times, and I have read stuff from folks out there that quite passionately disagree with me (some of those Rarity debates were intense). Guess what. All of this is okay.

People can disagree with me all that they want, but at the end of the day, I don't mind this. In fact, I would be willing to stick my neck out there and defend their right to disagree. Listen RD92, whenever you make a bold proclamation, you need to be ready for challenges. People have every right to challenge you - so long as they remain respectful. There is no need for suddenly switching to a different pony due to folks disagreeing with you.

Here's my point. It doesn't matter what others think of your preferences. Why? I'll tell you why. Because they don't know a dang thing about you. To them, your reasons may seem shallow and unconvincing. That is because they aren't you and it is impossible for them to understand what makes you tick. However, you understand yourself well enough to choose your favorite pony. That is all that matters.

People have every right to disagree with you, but... You have every right to shrug it off and go about your day. Don't take things personally, and you don't have to answer every critic.

True story, in my last semester in grad school, there was this one professor that kept giving me a hard time about my thesis. I mean this guy would challenge EVERYTHING that I did and that I said. He was like a shark... Constantly hovering around looking for something to use to say "you're wrong". You know what I did? Think I wasted my time answering every single criticism, every single challenge? No. I held my head up and I got the dang work done. In the end, I presented my thesis to the committee, and because I had focused on my project and not on my opponent, I was ready. If I had wasted time defending myself and catering to him, I would have never made it out of there.

Be your own person. Smile and listen to the critics, but don't let them rent space inside your head. Besides, it isn't like they want to. Think about this. Do you think that folks in this thread are honestly hating on you because of pony preference? Maybe they are just curious. Motion Spark is silly sometimes, but he CERTAINLY does not intend to make you feel bad (GCT, if you go there, you know what it is). Shank isn't trying to run you off either. Remember, see randomness. Unless people outright say and act like they are out to get you, you don't need to think that they are your enemies.

Take a deep breath my friend. :)

We are friends here, and no one wants to make you feel bad. It is just that it is hard to understand this without being able to see the face or hear the voice behind the words.

  4. And to be honest with ya, I think there is favoritism going on here...

Keeping this site friendly, fun, and safe for work is the job of both the members of the community and the staff. If you see something that is in violation of the site rules, then you should report it. We comb through lots and lots of posts, and we catch quite a few things. However, some things still slip through the cracks. There is no "favoritism" at work here, and there is really no need for exaggerated conspiracy theories. This is a public forum provided as a service to the community and staffed by volunteers. There is no great, evil network of power-hungry monsters here. The staff consists of students and other normal people just like you. I can assure you that we are not laughing madly and randomly handing out warnings to those that are not part of our secret cabal.

  5. Statistically, there is no evidence to support the idea that the forum is less active.

No one hardly posts anymore? We are still averaging over 2,000 posts per day across the site. We are also steadily climbing to over 10,000 members (we should hit this milestone before march of next year).

With that said, the Forum Lounge does not have a minimum character limit and it is a wonderful place to engage in "short conversation". I frequent that area of the site quite a bit. RD92, perhaps you should consider joining me in the Lounge if you don't like the 100 character minimum in other areas.

    1. Unnecessary character limits, 15-50 is okay, but 100 is overkill, all because RP posts where allowed to count as actual posts.

I'm sorry. Once again. We have discussed the minimum character limit to death in other areas of the site. If people are not willing to write 100 characters to make their point, then perhaps the point should be made in a blog or status update.

We have both blogs and status updates now to fill in the gap that is left by the character limit, and they have both become insanely active. Since we introduced blogs, hundreds of them have been opened and thousands of comments have been posted to blog entries.

This is only the beginning... Over the next few weeks, we're going to introduce even more fancy additions to the blogging system. (We're also going to do lots of interesting things in other areas of the site as well. Be patient, and you'll be surprised about what we can pull off within just a matter of a month or so.)

    2. Forum "drama"

I can't think of any drama that has occurred recently that had more than just a handful of participants. In order for drama to affect the entire site, it would need to have thousands of participants. That simply has not happened.

    3. A long summer without new episodes

Now this is something that I completely agree with. Activity was lower during the summertime, which makes perfect sense.

    4. DDoS attacks

We lost maybe two or three days to denial of service attacks. Despite the attacks, we still ended up with over 1,000 posts on both days.

    5. Chat closed

Skype chat, synchtube chat, general chat thread. We have plenty of capable replacements.

  6. No worries, you aren't the only one out there with family members like this. As Rarity would say, “They are uncouth!” I'm the same way as you, I don't like alcohol (I don't drink period) and I have the habit of being quite polite. Some of my family members… Are definitely not the same. :D

I think that loving your family does not mean you have to be like them or that you have to be proud of them. Frankly, the most important thing is that you love your family, and sometimes disapproving of their behavior is part of actually loving them.
