      Well, David Roberts made a steam tractor and the "tank treads" we know today. The Steam tractor was armed up and used to fight. So I would say he made the first tank.

      Depends. It wasn't called a 'tank' until pretty recently. They were called land ironsides and other similar names. It was during WWI when England had a secret project on building these machines, and they hid behind calling them 'Water Carriers'. This is shortened to WC, which is the English slang for toilets. So they renamed them 'Mobile Water Tanks', and the name 'tank' stuck.
