First of all, of course they're a huge influence. Their music has been around for centuries. That's a huge time gap. We can't say the same about modern artists because they obviously aren't that old (yet). However, that doesn't mean they are not as talented or ambitious as those classical composers.

I did not say they are not as ambitious as him. I said that music written today is a lot simplier than what Beethoven wrote.

Everyone wants to be best in what he/she is doing - and it is hard to judge because everyone has personal taste. That's why I refer only to technical aspect of music - just see notes for random piece of music written by Bethoven and random modern song.
