A Clockwork Orange and Why You Should Watch It
Armchair Adventurer posted a blog entry in Armchair Adventurer's Blog
Today we are here to talk a little bit about a movie called A Clockwork Orange. It is based on a book by Anthony Burgess of the same name and as the title unceremoniously spoils it my ultimate goal here is to convince you to give this movie a chance! Reading that I know what question comes to your mind ,Oh my Brothers and Only Friends! Your question is: Why? Fear not my little droogies for all shall be reveled soon by your humble narrator. You see, A Clockwork Orange takes place in the close future. A future which will seem very retro to today’s viewer since the movie was made in 1971. The story is about a person called Alex DeLarge. Alex is ,in almost every possible way, a horrible person. One of his greatest joys in life is doing wrong. He is also fifteen years old. But hey, a little of the ol’ ultra-violence can get anybody’s blood pumping right? Despite that however Alex is a very relateable character. He is intelligent, well spoken, he enjoys classical music. He is very charismatic and his diabolical enjoyment of what he does is almost infectious. No matter how despicable the act he is committing may seem you still reluctantly cheer him on and when he falls on hard times you genuinely feel sorry for him. However, one day as most people, Alex will have to pay for his sins. This character is portrayed very well by Malcolm McDowell. His performance and director Stanley Kubrick’s direction, help you see a morally bankrupt world where the young go out to prey on others at night and where politics seems to be way to caught up in it’s own game of thrones to be able to handle to problems of the common people. A world where today’s society could very well be heading. The story of our dear Alex DeLarge however is not the only interesting thing about A Clockwork Orange. The events of the movie raise many interesting question. What is a man when his ability to make his own choices is taken away? What makes a person enjoy causing harm to others? Just how much can somebody like that ever realize the error of his ways and redeem himself? This story asks all these question and many more like them and it might just make you question yourselves ,Oh my Brothers and Only Friends! That is what elevates this piece of cinema above a lot of others. This story is not just about one man but an exploration of human nature in general. Asking questions about ourselves and the nature of things around us is what drives our lives forward after all ,my little droogies. And few things can make you ask questions better than good fiction. The last few things of note I’d like to mention about this movie are connected to it’s history. It was very controversial back in it’s own time. It won’t shock today’s viewer much of course, but back then this was one of the boldest and most violent movies in cinemas. Unfortunately, that led to some people trying to copy the ill chosen past times of our dear Alex in real life. That’s why Stanley Kubrick asked for this movie to not be distributed to the public in the United Kingdom and until his death it remained unavailable in that country. This is one of the events that lead to it’s relative obscurity today. You have seen Clockwork Orange parodied and/or referenced in other works of fiction (The Simpsons, South Park, Tenacious D just to name a few) countless times already ,have no doubt about that my dear reader. And you have surely felt it’s impact on our culture. A Clockwork Orange is a remarkable movie in the history of cinema which stood the test of time. I hope I managed to convince you to give it a chance my dear reader and if not I thank you for making it this far all the same. If you do decide to see „our hero’s” story through grab a glass of milk and get ready for a bit of the ol’ Ultra-Violence...- 18 comments

Daylight Savings Time; Good or Bad?
Armchair Adventurer replied to Jon the VGNerd's topic in General Discussion
It is pretty pointless in my opinion. I wish we stopped doing it. It's just another unnecessary annoyance in life I believe. Damn even with all the padding I needed one more character to fulfill the character limit. Now I overdid it... -
Do you have any stupid or pointless fears?
Armchair Adventurer replied to Pink Anarchy's topic in General Discussion
Although I do not find him as unbearable as a others seem to that was really funny . As for fears well it's not exactly pointless but I'm really afraid of knives. I don't have much problem using one to eat and all but in any other context I just hate seeing them. Somebody holding a knife seriously makes me shudder. -
I showed this to my sister and she fell in love with this plushie . Fluttershy is her favorite and she really likes this style. Really awesome work, thanks for showing it !

3rd entry new 2 Forum friends and whats up with me?
Armchair Adventurer commented on dinomaster626's blog entry in dinomaster626's Blog
Well, this is the first time somebody actually wrote anything about me and it's very hard to describe how great it feels . Thank you very much man! Talking to you has been really awesome in itself and this means a lot to me too. I hope that we will have many more fun times like yesterday in the future ! -
I actually become really calm and everything seems really clear when I can sit down with my friends in a dark room smoke a hookah (no drugs in it) and just enjoy talking to each other or listening to music or something like that. Those are my moments of clarity, when I reach my inner peace, so to say. My worries seem so distant then and I can really just focus on the moment and enjoy myself.

What is English like to learn as a second language?
Armchair Adventurer replied to squareyes's topic in General Discussion
For a long time it was really difficult for me. It is very different from my language in a lot of ways (then again a lot of people say that Hungarian is one of the weirdest existing languages XD). But I like to think I am pretty good at it now. My life would be very different if I never learned to speak English. I would be a really different person for sure. Now most of the movies I watch, books I read (and audiobooks I listen to) etc. are in English. It has helped me to see and experience a lot of the world and things out there that I wouldn't have been able to because they are not available in my original language or because they are very badly translated. I'm really glad to be able to understand and speak English ! -
What if Chrysallis were to produce another Queen?
Armchair Adventurer replied to Malinter's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
That could make for a very interesting story in my opinion. They could do it serious or play it for laughs. I'd prefer a more serious approach (or possibly a mix of the two although that would be considerably harder to do). But with her popularity I just don't see Queen Chrysallis replaced yet. Still, another notable Changeling character would be awesome to see and this would be a very creative way of doing that. -
Your opinion on Chistmas
Armchair Adventurer replied to The Cynical Lone Wolf's topic in General Discussion
Well for me it really is the most wonderful time of the year . The season of Die Hard marathons and Christmas themed movies. When the commercialism we seem to hate so much in everyday life runs rampant and we still cheer it on for some reason. The time when everybody is forgiving and usually is in high spirits, when the holiday cheer gets me and my friends and we couldn't give a sh*t about anything else but having fun and what we get for Christmas . I can see why it can be stressful or unenjoyable for some people but I look forward to it every single year ! -

I only recently learned about the existence of Towel Day (in a game show of all things) but since I am a big fan of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, damn right I'm gonna celebrate it ! I have no idea how but a day as awesome as that must be celebrated. Most likely I'm gonna carry a towel with me everywhere that day, holding my thumb up and desperately hoping to be picked up by a passing space ship .

I was always looking forward to Saturday morning cartoons when I was younger. I have also become kind of a book worm at around the age of 8 (those Harry Potter books sure started something). I had many movies on VHS and later on DVD as well so when I didn't really have anything better to do I just started getting the ones I haven't seen yet off the shelves and watching them one by one. And of course how could I forget about my beloved PS2 and N64 and the many many hours of entertainment they have given me (and still continue to this day). Wow, I just realized that this is pretty much what I like to do nowadays as well (except for the Saturday morning cartoons). Hmm, guess I have always been this nerdy ,haven't changed much over the years.

Dark Twilight in my opinion is a fascinating idea. I wouldn't like it to be something permanent but something could really be done with that (self advertisement: I'm writing a fanfiction like that ). After all, her talent is all magic not just the Magic of Friendship ,isn't it ? I used to think that including more Dark Magic could make the show more serious than it needs to be but if done well that wouldn't bother me and it wouldn't necessarily have to make the show darker. So yeah, more dark magic for Season 4! Anyway, just to reiterate : This is an amazing picture based on an awesome idea ! Can't be stressed enough.

This is a great idea and it was very well done ! Awesome piece of art! Agreed, that could be really interesting (and even dramatic) if done right.

I'm sorry, I know this is off topic but your profile picture is awesome !

Background Ponies in the Spotlight?
Armchair Adventurer replied to Sig Hoovestrong's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Actually, that's true. I don't know why many people feel like the concept is a bad thing. I didn't mean to imply that in my previous post but I guess the word "fan pandering" does have a negative meaning to it. It doesn't really bother me, it made Equestria Girls a lot more fun to me to be honest. I would actually really like and episode about the mane six's families. Especially, some clarity on the parents of AJ would be nice. -
Although I don't listen to much J-Pop these two songs from Persona 3&4 are really special to me. Those games have awesome soundtracks. Avoid the comments if you are even slightly interested in these games and you haven't played them. They are usually full of spoilers.

Background Ponies in the Spotlight?
Armchair Adventurer replied to Sig Hoovestrong's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
I think an episode about the background ponies could be a lot of fun. Either them getting one or two episodes where we focus on them instead of the mane six or one (maybe more) which is about one specific background pony. It would feel a bit like, okay a lot like, fan pandering but really who doesn't want to see an episode about Derpy or Doctor Whooeves or [insert your favorite background previously not mentioned pony here] ! Also some of them getting a bigger role in the main plot of the episode could be fun to see.
