Yin and a spectral Hei. I was originally going to go for a more wispy, ghost-like look for Hei, but I got lazy at the end and ended up settling for a half-arsed translucent look. Yin's hair was fun, it took a few tries to make it not make 80s hair look small, but I think it turned out. Feel free to tell me it sucks, just try to be semi-specific. Anyway, thank's for stoppin' in, see y'all again.

What languages do you know or want to learn?
Frith is Magick replied to Mint Petal's topic in General Discussion
Japanese is surprisingly easy to learn. Well, gaijin Japanese is. It's a complex language, but you can pick up the basics easily. Good luck with tones. As fun as Mandarin was, I can't actually speak it to save my life. As mentioned, I know a little Japanese and German (I don't remember enough Mandarin to include it), plus a few swears in Norwegian (I'd thank the person, but I don't know their forum name), and in addition to becoming fluent, I would like to learn Dutch, Icelandic (or Old Norse, the end goal is to read the Elder Eddas untranslated), and Tagalog (Filipino), plus a few stock phrases in Polish (I initially thought Russian because I like the sound, but Polish is close enough and I actually know Polish people). -
I see what you mean about the bodies seeming stiff. I'm not sure how to fix it, but it merits attention in future drawings. Front view is still an area where I am far behind, it just never seems to turn out right. Thank you for pointing out the neck, I had trouble making it look natural, now I know why. With what you said about placing hooves, unless I misunderstand, rather than working outward joint by joint I should place the hoof and proceed to fill in the leg while accounting for anatomy and perspective. As for the one of Fluttershy, looking at it again, the problem of it seeming two dimensional seems to arise from lazy shading, if that is what you were getting at. I won't lie or make excuses, some of the body, especially the wings, were rushed and done quite sloppily. I can't say this enough, you give some of the best critique on this site, thank you.

Offline: Polite/nice, very quiet and reserved. My pun to normal speech ratio is about the same as online. Can't talk to strangers or people I barely know to save my life. I love doing things that people would thank me for, but loathe being thanked. Online: Generally a quiet, nice guy, though a crazy side sometimes leaks through. I can kinda hold a conversation, but not really start one. Pretty much the same as offline, just a little more outgoing.

Buck, yeah, I love anything dark, twisted, or psychotic, especially when blended with the sweet and innocent. Here's to the first case of mad cow pony disease. Not bad for a beginning artist. One thing you could try to give it better depth (aside from adding shadows) would be to make the arms slightly shorter and add a shallow, outward opening curve near the end to make it look like part of the bottom of the hoof, which would bring the arms "out" more. I look forward to seeing more, especially if the semi-psychotic theme and style continue.

This idea has been brought up before in passing, but this is the first time I've seen points beyond the Summer Sun Celebration. The point about the CMCs is not very strong, as it is not unknown for characters to not age. In addition to what you stated about the progression of Rarity's career, there is also the amount of time it took fo Twilight Sparkle to gain recognition as a Princess. The poin about the Summer Sun Celebration and Celestia's speech are the strongest, and it strikes me as difficult to find convincing evidence that more than one Equestrian year has passed (because who knows, one Equestrian year may be four Earth years).

When showing up to a formal event in a "monkey suit" does not mean what you thought it meant... (Fortunately, or sadly, depending on your perspective, this has never happened to me) On a serious note, I've had some hardcore awkward moments which I have yet to reveal to anyone, even the only person I can trust, one the date of which has been burned in my memory to haunt me into the foreseeable future, but ya'll don't get to hear that one. One of the more mild ones: Getting drunk enough for it to be used as an excuse just to say something to someone that I was too scared to say. I don't regret saying it, but I do regret only saying it that one time...

Excellent point; I never thought of it like that, and it certainly does explain her acting as a sort of protector for Flutters in their youth. Perhaps RD's parents were close friends with Fluttershy's, so in absence of relatives in Cloudsdale, she was sent to live with them. If they were actually related by blood, it likely would have been mentioned in the show, so what you're suggesting seems quite possible.

Just something else I want to throw in here: the brohoof button is a wonderful thing. If you like something, but don't really have anything to say, just brohoof it and save yourself and the creator time. Talent is not inherent ability, it is the passion to pursue a craft tirelessly and become better. If someone truly loves what they do, by all means encourage them, but it is the honest opinion that is more helpful, and they can handle it. The type of people who give up at the first sign of adversity obviously had little interest in what they were doing in the first place and wouldn't have benefited from it anyway. Random personal story: on a few separate occasions over the years I tried getting into drawing. I sucked. Bad. I quickly lost interest on those occasions, and the reason I never improved was that I never cared enough. It wasn't until a couple months ago I found something that interested me, so I pursued the skill and improved rapidly. If someone gives up, it just isn't their time yet, but eventually the will find something they love, and it will give them the spark they need to really develop the skill. A quick shout-out to Silverwisp the Bard. There are a few good artist on this site, and a few damn good ones too, but among them this guy gives the best critique out of anyone I have encountered so far. Thank you for all of your help.

My theory on the matter is that Fluttershy's parents are Earth Ponies (Unicorn possible, but Earth Pony makes much more sense). We know that it is possible for Earth Pony parents to give birth to Pegasi (the Cakes), Making this a reasonable possibility. If her parents are Earth Ponies, then perhaps they sent her to Cloudsdale so that she could learn to fly and be with other Pegasi, and Fluttershy lived either with a relative or adoptive family. Being raised as such, compounded by being picked on, made her quite shy and destroyed her confidence, hence her inability as a filly to fly well. There are one or two other threads on Pony genetics, and it has been suggested that having parents of another race may leave the offspring with some traits of that race. If this is true, Earth Pony parents (or weak Pegasi blood in general) may explain Fluttershy's affinity for critters and poor flying ability (tying into the idea of Pegasi magic and Scootaloo being unable to fly) .

Following this build has been quite interesting, and the product turned out quite well (even if my opinion in the matter counts for very little). Your other instruments on DA are also pretty cool (that harp ukulele has quite the sound). I'd definitely be interested in following another build log if you're willing to do one for your next project. Just out of curiosity, how long have you been building ukuleles?

Oddly enough, I haven't hurt myself in a couple weeks, which is odd... The last thing I did to hurt myself was nick my knee on a rock. Only a 7 stitcher, but it should leave a decent enough scar. I haven't hurt myself much since I broke the knife I used for playing 5 finger fillet.

What is the best-sounding accent or language to you?
Frith is Magick replied to The Gasper's topic in General Discussion
Best accent would be either Scottish or Irish because of how they seem to naturally roll off the tongue. Russian accents also has a nice ring to them. Best sounding language? I personally like the sound of German, though Russian also sounds like it has a nice flow. Tagalog gets an honourable mention because it sounds fun to speak (I really should learn one of these days...). -

Crotch shots funny? Are you nuts? They're sometimes considered funny because of a beautiful German word: Schadenfreude, which means people get a kick (no pun intended) out of other people's pain. While a poor execution may ruin the humour, in general it works for a cheap chuckle. Personally, I find them cringe worthy, but I can see how some people may find it funny.

Survival/Bushcraft Discussion Thread
Frith is Magick replied to Arctic Night's topic in General Discussion
Both of these are excellent points, and both depend on the circumstances, such as what you have and how long the situation will last. Heck, if you're certain you can get somewhere within a reasonable period of time, you can forego food, but any prolonged scenario will make eating more important. Once again, call me crazy, but the less prepared and knowledgeable a person is, the less likely they are to put themself in a situation where they will need those skills, hence preparing for the most likely emergencies. I should probably shut up, considering there are only so many ways to say "analyze your situation" without being redundant. -

What about edible varieties? For me a big obstacle would be not knowing edibility and potential medicinal uses of local flora. Actually, where I live, in the dead of winter it's not unheard of for highways to be shutdown by the weather, leaving people stranded, so having some food, warm coats, gloves, etc. in the back of the car is a good idea, especially on highways. Call me crazy, but I think it is most important to be ready not for the most extreme scenarios, but for the most likely emergencies (although severity is still an important factor), which changes with season and activity. -
Nothing can beat a true thunderstorm, especially at night. To dance beneath the rain to the music of rain and thunder, periodically illuminated by beautiful, clear bolts shooting down from the midnight sky, and the feeling of the rain, as if every care, worry, and burden is being washed away. To marvel at the destructive force of wind and rain, but also at the beauty of life that rises afterwards.
