  1. Duck face selfie Does this make me sexy? We've done the impossible insane, and that's what makes us mighty (fun).
  2. So what you're saying is that I should study, get advice, and practice? Holy s**t! This is revolutionary! Sarcasm aside, that is a good post and well worth reading. Thank you for also posting a couple of links, I bookmarked the shading one.
  3. First of all, some people draw for fun, others for quality. If it's just for shiz n' gigs, this tutorial isn't for you, but it's good if you are seeking to improve on an objective scale. Just a few things I want to add in here. -This tutorial, while valuable, doesn't really directly help improvement, it mostly describes a path to improvement. -You don't need to improve everything at once. Focus on one or two things and build slowly. My best piece to date has bad anatomy, but I'm not too fussy because I was focusing on shading and can work on anatomy later (though I admit that's bad because shading should follow anatomy). -To the new artist: don't buy a bunch of tools right off the bat. It would suck to waste a bunch of money on stuff you won't care about in a month or two. I believe that it is best to develop the skill and decide whether yu want to pursue it further before getting extra stuff. I'm not good, but I have surprised myself with a simple mechanical pencil (and I'm a bit of a cheapskate). I can't speak for everyone, but my best friend when drawing is an eraser. -If you can't handle blunt advice, stop drawing (or start doing abstract). If you can't handle honest critique and need everything to be sugarcoated, asking for advice and trying to improve is a waste of everybody's time. There's no need for critics to be arseholes, but they should be honest, and the creator should be damn grateful for it. If you're ignoring one element to focus on something specific, say that when asking for critique; advice on the other elements is still valuable, but you'll probably get more advice about what you're working on if you specify what you're working on. -Time is important. You will become better over time with practice, but the time spent on the individual piece is important. I stop drawing when I no longer care about the drawing, thus my best ones are the ones I really cared about and put the extra time into. More time means you're being more careful and tweaking different things, but even down time is good. I find that a drawing that looks great looks like absolute garbage after I've stepped away from it for 15 min. -Don't throw stuff out. Keep those shameful and horrible pieces, because the more you look at them, the more you will understand where you went wrong and how to fix it. To everyone who comments on a piece, no matter what the media, don't be afraid of being mean. Honest feedback is helpful, and sugarcoating everything will only hinder the creator. By all means aspiring artists should be encouraged to continue and improve, but saying "good job" and nothing else is infinitely more douchy, at least in my opinion, than saying "good job, but try working on this or doing that next time". Praise improvement and relative quality, but please, try to be helpful too.
  4. I enjoy cooking, so I would start by cooking her favorite meal, after that it would depend on where interests overlap, but my guess is that it would be enjoying a movie or a walk or stargazing, etc . I'm going to sound like a bit of a bit of a mushy loser saying this, but I (in theory, haven't had a chance to test this full scale) would enjoy being able to simply be with someone special and make her happy (provided money or good looks don't matter, 'cause I've got neither ).7/28/12
  5. Thinking about an awesome song that I can't find because I can't remember anything searchable. What happened? I read the books, but don't follow the show.
  6. It depends on the situation. Normally I prefer to drink alone, but I've drank with my family and both of my friends, and sometimes I get the alcohol and other times accept offered alcohol. To me treating friends to drinks and that action be reciprocated is one of many possible acts of friendship (though it is by no means necessary), so there is the social aspect, but if I plan on actually getting intoxicated, I do that alone. That being said, I wouldn't accept a drink from a stranger (or offer) unless it was a "greeting"/means of introduction, in which case it's the act, not the alcohol. Then again, I have yet to consume enough alcohol to overcome social anxiety, so the social aspect is pretty useless
  7. When commenting I try to be nice and judge the piece based on where the person's ability seems to be and the level they were aiming for, but at the same time, I try to point out at least one thing that can be improved on. Honest critique is important to development, but being a flat out arse discourages people who may become pretty good with time and practice. I admit, I get royally pissed off when I post a sketch and get an "awesome stuff" post without at least one critique. It was early encouragement that made me want to continue, but it was truth that drove improvement. I know my work is shit, and you don't need to compare me to masters or even people with a few more years of practice, but I do want help, I want to hear tricks and tips from more experienced people and know what to look out for next time. I'm starting to ramble about myself, which I don' like, but the point is that feedback should be helpful, and while encouragement can be helpful, truth is even more so.
  8. It may not be fast, but it has a relatively clean sound and is still pretty heavy in a headbang-y way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogOQnXBT5lw
  9. 82575 Wow, I haven't been in this thread in a while. Doin' good.
  10. I greatly enjoyed this video, both for the content and the delivery. In addition to the amusing intro and excellent synopsis, I like how you covered both sides of the moral and tied it to the real world as well as talking about the more pony relevant side. How you presented the video was, at least to me, interesting, and I want to watch more of these reviews. Good stuff.
  11. ^Just a wee bit, aye. > Bringin' this back, 'cause I can. v Likes accents
  12. This is quite good, I like it, and bonus points for it being Fluttershy. Something about the back leg seems off, but I'm not sure how to express it. The only way I can think is that the leg goes straight from the hip to heel without the knee joint, sorry if that doesn't make sense. The thigh seems a bit low relative to the body; I don't know your style that well, but normally the leg would connect to the body a bit higher. Either way it's a good piece, keep up all the awesome stuff.
  13. Very nice pic. Is that a Pikachu shirt? In that case happy (belated) birthday!
  14. The examples we have of aggressive dragons were on their own and protecting a hoard, so I doubt that says too much regarding their habits for raising young. From the dragon migration I would assume that dragons raise their young communally, but allow freedom. The young are free too play and hunt and earn a few scratches, but if they were in serious danger I imagine the attacker would have a full flock of fire breathers to contend with. There isn't a strong family unit type bond as with many creatures, but dragons still care for their young. Now that I think about it, the aggressive dragons may have been bachelors amassing a hoard to attract a mate, and the migration was going to the dragon breeding grounds. A dragon like Spike would probably stay close to his birth mother for the early years before joining the "teens", and Twilight fills this role as she is the one who hatched him. Like @Malinter said, Spike may be a different creature, so his background may not speak for dragons at all. Random idea; there are different Pony races, why not different Dragon races, with Spike being the dragon equivalent of a Unicorn, explaining his magic fire, and the dragons of the migration being "Pegasi".
  15. I definitely enjoy driving, though mostly on freeways and highways. I'm not exactly a fan of traffic, and passengers don't always appreciate my use of... precise timing (I often drive aggressively, but I know my limits). Mostly I enjoy just cruising along, it doesn't matter where I'm going, which is good considering I have a horrible sense of direction
  16. How old are you? 18 what is your gender? Male what is your ethnicity? Caucasian What is your sexual orientation? Hetero What are your religious beliefs or ideals? Eclectic Pagan (semi-theistic) What is your Myers Briggs personality type? INTP
  17. The face is horrible, what were you even thinking? It looks good for what it is. What is the angle? the torso looks like the "camera" is facing it straight on, but the legs look as if the "camera" is looking at the person from slightly above. There's not much to talk about with a simple outline other than maybe proportions, but if you're happy with how the tablet works, that's really what counts.
  18. Flutterdash started it, but I think I can add you both if you give me your skypes. I don't know off hand who is in the group, but I know for certain Flutterdash, Karmali, and Life Giver are, but most of the regulars should be if I recall correct.
  19. Posting here is technically the one requirement, so welcome to the club. We also have a skype group, so if you want to join that pretty much any of the regulars in this thread can help you out with that.
  20. I can think of one thing to say... Hontou ni KAWAII!!!! I like that one. Used it as an avvie end of October.
  21. ....................
  22. Well a bit is approximately half the value of an opinion, and the current exchange rate on those is a penny for your thoughts, so a bit is about $0.005. Anyway, that's my two bits on it
  23. I don't think it has died down, but as the other Mane 6 become more developed, their fanbases grow, so rather than Fluttershy's and RD's popularity dying down, the others (Rarity and AJ especially) are catching up.
  24. Going to the nearby knife/"military surplus" store to browse knives, talk steel and shoot the breeze with the employees, even when I don't plan on actually buying a knife. They're a great bunch to hang around, even if it's technically wasting time (though I only do it when it's slow).
  25. Does that mean she'd explode if you slapped her rear? First of all, her cutie mark only being the moon makes sense when you also look at her necklace, and secondly, it makes more sense that she has a spot than a disproportionately large cutie mark, and if it was a part of her cutie mark, what would it signify? Celestia has the sun, Luna has the moon.
