Mal has good reflexes. He's an earth pony so while his top speed isn't high, he can sprint pretty damn fast when he needs to. He's built for strength and endurance really as the everfree is too dense a place for anyone who cannot fly to get any speed.

i was talking about 7-10+ spells, not two. Rarity also isn't as interested in magic the way Twilight and Trixie are. She wants to be a fashionista, not a master of magic.

Trixie is far from being a genius. However. Spike states that it is rare for unicorns to master multiple spells, Trixie is the only other unicorn besides Twilight we've seen who breaks this trend. She may not be a genius but she probably does have potiental to be a strong mage.

Mac has no anxieties and can talk to anypony with out the awkwardness which Fluttershy shows. He's more assurtive and will flat out say nope if the situation demands it. Even if its his own sisters in the wrong he'll say it. Mac is just your regular working class silent badass.

Malinter is a Royal Guard who's job is to patrol the everfree, so he practically lives there for months at a time and wears the bare minimium of armour as the whole set would weigh him down in there. He sets up a camping spot, perferably on a ledge so predators can't eat him in the night. He then spends most of his time gathering resources and recording any changes in the ecology of the Everfree he observes. He'd get into scraps with Timberwolves or Cragodiles if he wasn't too careful so he usually coats his fur in plant-made dyes to hide his sent and break his already earthy colours even more to sneak about. Smells awful but he's used to it and washes it out every few days. He does have some downtime though, he knows the location of some very nice springs where one can drink and bathe (even the mirror pool but he's spooked from seeing his reflection waving back at him), He also visits Zecora from time to time for herbology and alchemist training and to deliver some supplies to her inbetween her own trips to ponyville. Mal has no house in ponyville as he is technically stationed in the Canterlot Barracks.

Ofc ponies can beat everything, they'll just ask someone else to fight for them and win indirectly.
