Worse comes to worse, I'd just use the link feature and type the text you want. That way it won't be a long URL. But it shouldn't do that. I think it seems to mess up if you have too much on your profile.

How would I access this feature?

I should know how to do this. I did it when I came here. Why don't I remember now?

There's a little chain link icon in the text editor, just type what you want, hilight it, and click the icon, then cut/paste your url.
