  1. I'm okay with the show the way it is. From what I understand that other fans have different views on what the series should be for different reasons; some may believe that since that certain changes may make the show better to attract a larger audience, they may feel insecure about being fans because of certain aspects of the show, they may have enjoyed some of the darker aspects that the show has presented and wish to see more, and certain fans may also be too involved in their own politics and wish for the show to portray messages that align with their ideals. Humor is subjective-just because someone thinks that something is funny, doesn't necessarily everyone will agree with them-I personally, am not a fan of slapstick and usually indifferent to it, unless it's happening to a character that I'm angry with or am clearly supposed to hate-but, if it happens to a character that is meant to be sympathetic and has already been consistently then instead of joy, I'll probably just feel sorry for them. Some people also just aren't fans of downer endings, even when they are meant to be comedic like "Swarm of the Century", this might be because they are more sensitive and empathetic to certain characters (which is the reason for some double-standards, such as any character making Fluttershy cry instantly becoming hated, but she may do the same to another without earning as much scorn.) So, a lot of it comes down to the individual with their sensitivity and sense of humor as well as the writing and execution of certain jokes, which may fall flat for some, or in the worst cases come off as too mean-spirited and make them angry as was the case with the scenes with Angel in "Putting Your Hoof Down" or Pinkie Pie in "Filli Vanilli" being some more infamous examples. While I agree that it is a bad idea to push any sort of political agenda into the show as that will only serve to alienate viewers, if not anger them-I took "The Cutie Map" to be more of a homage to "1984" and a follow up to some questions raised by "Magical Mystery Cure" (which Larson also wrote) than any sort of intentional political message on the writers' part.
  2. I doubt it. I think the closest we've had were the changed Derpy scene from "The Last Round Up" and the rewritten script for "Spike At Your Service" because the original was considered too mean-spirited for Spike abuse. I don't think that a script like that would make it to air if it had been written-but then again, other kid's cartoons have had episodes like that-so I don't think it's beyond the realm of possibility that something like that might happen it the future.
  3. Aside from Friendship is Magic, a friend recently showed me Gravity Falls (which I'm trying to get caught up on) and Star vs. The Forces of Evil.
  4. I'm conflicted. On one hand, I'm happy for her success (while I haven't always agreed some of her characterizations-I've always believed she's gotten far more hate than she deserves in certain instances) and I do hope she gets to write for some pretty cool series and have fun doing it. But, at the same time I'm worried about who they might get to replace her.
  5. I think Ponyville does have a police force-we just haven't seen them onscreen yet, because they haven't been relevant to an episode's plot. I also remember "Read It and Weep" had a security force for the hospital, so I wouldn't go as far as to say that there isn't any law enforcement in the town, since they were trying to stop someone who was breaking into the hospital to steal something.
  6. It's a tie between Bulk Biceps and Snips and Snails for me.
  7. I say dude and use it as more gender-neutral term, the only time I ever use bro is when I'm addressing my actual, biological brothers.
  8. Whenever I'm hungry for something after I get up, the first thing I grab to eat-that's breakfast.
  9. Well, after seeing Troubleshoes' plight it looks like Starlight Glimmer made some valid points in premiere it also confirms one of the disturbing questions I had at the end of "Magical Mystery Cure" about ponies being naturally having destinies that make them miserable. Of course, I have to admit I wasn't really expecting much from the plot synopsis when it announced the CMC would be trying to earn their Cutie Marks (again), so I initially skipped this episode when it aired before having more time later in the day. Troubleshoes himself seems to be near the size of the Saddle Arabian delegates from "Magic Duel". This episode also had moments that I think were meant to be funny, but felt more mean-spirited than anything else (for FiM, at least)-not quite "Mysterious Mare Do-Well", "Putting Your Hoof Down", or "Filli Vanilli" levels, but enough to make me stop and wonder about the intent of the writer. I am also unsure on whether or not I have misinterpreted the moral, since it's handling felt pretty sloppy but it came off as pretty negative to me; "If you are miserable, accident-prone, and constantly screw up, just get used to others laughing at your misery because that's probably your destiny." Again, I could be misinterpreting the moral-which is why I wish it was handled better-but, overall I'd have to say that I thought the episode was so okay, it was average and give it 6/10.
  10. I don't really think it's the kind of thing you can force to happen and if they are trying to target something like that, then I feel they are doomed to fail as they easily seem to forget that Friendship is Magic wasn't created for Bronies/Pegasisters specifically-it was more or less meant to just be tolerable for whoever was watching the show with the intended demographic. Isn't that why the Brony thing was such a big shock to them in the first place?
  11. I can't really say, yet. Season 1 and Season 2 are obviously what got me into the show and the fandom and while I enjoy them immensely, I also realize that they are not without flaws (the second has two of my most despised episodes, after all.) Season 3 was rocky due to being cut in half, the disappointing villain, and the rushed finale-leading me to believe that it is the worst in terms of quality-however, it did have a handful of good episodes. Season 4 felt like a nice return to from because it felt like the writers were finally getting back on track and we were back up to a full twenty-six episodes again with an awesome villain (from G1 no less). Season 5, I don't feel I can accurately judge as only five episodes have aired and I feel in would be unfair of me to pass judgment before the season is complete. So, I will probably have a more definitive answer then.
  12. No, but than again-that could be because it's something I try to avoid other people finding out about me. Although, I did get a lot of vitriolic comments about posting a thread about it a couple years back on deviantART.
  13. I would have to say Loyalty, since that is something that I greatly value and try exhibit, since I've had my trust in others betrayed a few times.
  14. No, Big Jim Miller has tweeted that they are focusing and the show's intended demographic.
  15. Mine is a three-way tie; The Mysterious Mare Do-Well; Nothing different than what everyone else has said before, Rainbow Dash's negative attributes are taken up to twelve for the sake of the plot, the Mane Five are hypocritical jerks, and the lives she did save are considered irrelevant because Dash bragged about rescuing them. Magic Mystery Cure; Very poor pacing, explained little about what being an Alicorn Princess would mean for Twilight, the two plot points felt very disjointed as if they were two different episodes meshed together, raises very disturbing questions about the nature Cutie Marks, free will, Starswirl, and what happened the spell was first attempted-since it was revealed that he 'didn't understand friendship'. Rainbow Falls; The Wonderbolt are unlikable jerks with no ethics, half of the cast is pointless to the episode, Rainbow Dash has to learn the same lesson about Loyalty, Twilight-the 'Princess of Friendship' offers no understanding for her friend's plight when 'Bulk Biceps' and Fluttershy clearly couldn't care less about qualifying and she opts to passive-aggressively chew Dash out over it, Soarin calls them out on their behavior Spitfire and Flootfeet out on their behavior, but they are instantly forgiven, and Dash still worships the ground they walk on despite all of this.
  16. Well, some people will definitely leave-but, that doesn't necessarily mean the fandom will die out. I've seen series that have ended, but still have a pretty strong fandom. Besides, I think it's a little early to start worrying about that-as others have pointed out Hasbro has stated they had plans to keep Friendship is Magic going for another five years, plus the movie they want to release in 2017.
  17. Technically, she ended up punishing herself by accelerating winter instead of stopping it-which, as was shown in the episode hurt her more than any other listed punishment could.
  18. After being disappointed by "Castle, Sweet Castle", I was relieved to see that this episode fulfilled the feels quota I was hoping for as I felt like this dealt with loss better. Especially when it came to Rainbow Dash being angry and unable to accept that Tank had to leave, which is even more saddening when one realizes that all of her friends will still have their pets around while he is hibernating. It could also just be my imagination, but I thought the piano background music playing while Rainbow Dash infiltrated the Weather Factory sounded a lot like "The Rainbow Factory". Dash also did end up getting punished in a form of ironic karmic retribution when she accidentally accelerated winter's arrival, instead of stopping completely as she had planned. Plus, we finally got a Rainbow Dash solo song.
  19. That would be surprising for a villain to win so early, but I would also be curious to see exactly where they would go with it-I always have wondered what Equestria would look like under Nightmare Moon's rule, especially since Lauren Faust said that if she won, eternal night would have just been the first of her changes to creating an era of evil. It would be kind of cool to see the Mane Six and Spike trying to figure out a way to stop her rule without the Elements of Harmony.
  20. Aside from the antagonists we are clearly meant to hate like Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon, I would have to say yes. Depending on the individual and their pet peeves, every character is a hate-able to a certain extent, just as every character has the potential to be lovable based on how endearing their quirks can be to someone.
  21. No, he was originally going to capture Tirek as planned-only to be played the same way Discord had manipulated others in the past to work with him (in a twist of dramatic irony), so he could have friendship AND still do whatever he wanted without the consequence of losing said friendship. He also flat out says that he didn't see the betrayal coming and occasionally showed guilt for his actions-as he was devastated when he realized that he lost everything due to his selfishness. Besides, it would actually make the Princesses look just as bad as him if they risked countless innocent lives on such a gambit rather than straight up sending Tirek back to Tartarus before he could hurt anyone and gain more power just for the sake of 'teaching Twilight a lesson'-especially, when it's made clear that he hates all equines with a passion and has no qualms about killing them given the library scene. There was also no way of knowing that Tirek's amulet would turn out to be a key.
  22. It's really beginning to seem like IDW thought this mini-series would sell and be positively received solely based on novelty. A series centered around the origins of the shows villains? Who wouldn't want to read that? It all comes down to execution, though-which seems to be pretty lacking in every issue released so far except for King Sombra's (ironically, enough.) Most of these are far too short (Tirek) and actually raise more questions than they answer-given this issue and the Siren issue, I'm not even entirely sure half of these writers even understand the lore they've been hired to write for. The biggest letdown for this one was the fact that they could have showed the build up to Luna slowly becoming more distant from Celestia leading up to her becoming Nightmare Moon. She was also imprisoned IN the moon, not on it-that's why there was an impression of her on the face of it for a thousand years and earning the title of the legend; "The Mare in the Moon". I also thought Nightmare Moon was still Luna, just her corrupted by her emotions like Sunset Shimmer in her demon form. Also, according to "Testing, Testing...1,2,3" weren't the Wonderbolts formed after her banishment?
  23. Off the top of my head there is the Love Poison incident from "Hearts and Hooves Day" where they tried to force Big Mac and Cheerilee to fall in love with each other and nearly destroyed their lives in the process. And then there is "Ponyville Confidential" where they shared embarrassing secrets about him and Applejack publicly through the Foal Free Press, making them the laughingstock of Ponyville and his anger at the fact conveyed with the scene of him chewing them over it, while speaking in full sentences. With that said, I don't think he hates them-but, I see where the belief stems from.
  24. Yes, people can be evil as well as stupid-with that said, she could just be obfuscating stupidity to get others to lower their guard around her. Plus, she seemed to know exactly what she was doing in the film and quite clearly enjoyed taunting Sunset with her "Too bad, so sad" line as well as playing off Trixie's ego to get her to keep the Rainbooms out of the competition for them.
  25. Well, what I will do to help me think sometimes-is get up and walk around outside or go down into my basement if the weather is poor-while listening to music and occasionally burst into a run before slowing down again to catch breath before continuing.
