I think it's a bit weird how she's so popular, yet she doesn't do anything but just... stand there.

I never got the seething hatred some people have for her. I get being annoyed by her popularity, but she's just a silly background character.

Oh yeah I have seen a lot of that, most people like Derpy but there is a very vocal minority that really really hates Derpy. Some people hate Derpy because of the same reasons the complainers do which is the bullshit argument about her supposedly being an offensive stereotype and others hate Derpy because of the actions of some of her fans which is an even worse reason.
