Well, you know, not everything is like that. The balance between deep, meaningful music and simple-minded, party, "have fun" music really isn't so blown-out-of-proportion like you're thinking it is.
Sure, most of the big names usually sing more of the simple-minded songs and they get a heck of a publicity, but that doesn't mean people still aren't listening to meaningful music. In fact, pretty much everyone I know listens to a mix of the two. If they have music player they'll quite often have a few hundred songs - sometimes even thousands - and I assure you that they aren't all senseless tunes.
And I really need to point this out - NOT ALL "GOOD" MUSIC IS OLD, AND NOT ALL "BAD" MUSIC IS NEW. There were a hecka tons of boring or just downright awful music decades ago, and such songs are also still being produced now. The same goes for attractive music. If one thinks otherwise they're not looking hard enough. Everyone will hear what is played everywhere, but are massive collections floating around the internet that aren't so mainstream. If one just looks they will find a lot of music that'll suit their tastes!
Ex. A site that I use to hear some unheard-of modern artists is http://www.earbits.com/. There are all kinds of genres in there and all of them are pretty decent - though I strike gold every so often c:
I also found some beautiful voices through tumblr and youtube - Vienna Teng and Regina Spekter among several - and those sites are pretty popular too so people a lot will end up finding a bunch of meaningful music every now and then without looking for it.
