In that episode dogs equal men, and the darker theme of that episode is the fact that she herself has been abused so much by these "dogs" that she started to hate all dogs so when she meant a smaller and weaker dog than the other big and strong ones she took out her pent up aggression against poor courage who is indeed a noble and kind hearted "dog" see where this is going? Its really quite intriguing how they use subtlety cover up the episodes true meaning and make it kid friendly but at the same time have it have a much much darker meaning than you'd think at first glance!

Maybe I was too old for it when it came about, but nothing in Courage actually scared me at all.  If anything, some episodes were exact opposite of scary, like the coral episode.
