I've got an older brother who isn't a brony but admits to liking Rainbow Dash (and Applejack to a lesser extent) and I also have an eight year old cousin who likes the show and cites Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy as his favorite ponies. He also likes Spike, however. I definitely think Rainbow Dash is sorta the go-to character for males who are are just getting into the show, especially younger ones. I admit, RD was initially the most attractive to me too, although I'm not a male. x)

And so my theory is further substantiated. :3

It makes sense. Rainbow is the "cool" pony, so she has an appeal that might get through to those who have put up a defensive barrier against cute things.

Plus, that raspy voice she has is adorable.
