  1. Interesting. However it's worth noting that AKR isn't a writer for Season 6, so we aren't sure what the writer's intent was with Celestia & Luna's quotes, though AKR's thoughts on the matter do make sense. What doesn't make sense to me is why Luna would say "it is beyond even our understanding" if they themselves were born alicorns. If they were indeed born alicorns, I find it hard to believe they wouldn't know so. If they did know, I feel they would have spoken so clearly instead of giving such a seemingly contradictory response
  2. Hmm. This is the direct quote from the Season 6 premiere: Rarity: But... But... But I thought Alicorn wings had to be earned by accomplishing some great, princess-worthy deed! Applejack: Yeah. How can you just be born with 'em? Princess Celestia: The birth of an Alicorn is something Equestria has never seen! Princess Luna: It is beyond even our understanding. I take this to mean Celestia & Luna weren't born alicorns themselves. Celestia said an alicorn birth hasn't been seen by Equestria, and Luna says they do not understand how such a thing could even occur, which alludes to the idea that a naturally born alicorn was unprecedented
  3. As of Season 6, we know that Celestia & Luna aren't naturally born alicorns, therefore the theory that naturally born alicorns have longer lifespans is unknown/inconclusive since new-born Flurry Heart is the only known naturally born alicorn. Twilight & Cadence haven't lived long enough to pass away from what would normally be considered old age (an average lifespan), so all we have to go off of are Celestia & Luna, both of which are thousands of years old. Unless Celestia & Luna are some sort of Gods which set them apart from other alicorns, it's safe to consider that perhaps their alicorn status is what keeps them alive. Are they immortal? It's impossible to tell. But it's clear they age extremely slowly, at the very least. As for McCarthy's tweet that "Twilight will not outlive her friends", that most likely means one of two things: 1. As Unlikeable Pony said earlier in this thread, McCarthy could just be saying what she said just to vaguely respond to the question, since its possible the topic won't ever come up in the show, therefor quelling concerns from fans while not having to actually answer the question through the show. The writers probably don't have the concept mapped out yet. This is what I think is most likely. 2. McCarthy is potentially implying that the ReMane 5 will somehow gain immortality or a massively extended lifespan. I doubt they'll become alicorns themselves, or that they'll give some sort of alternative explanation for the slow aging, but who knows where the writer's heads will be at when the series finale comes around. Notice the specific "she won't outlive her friends" wording. She didn't say that Twilight will age at a normal pace - she implied that she won't age any faster than her friends, or that she'll die an unnatural death in battle (very unlikely). As for my thoughts on the matter, I do think Twilight will outlive her friends by thousands of years, just like Luna & Celestia. I'm not positive that they're necessarily immortal, but I do think they age incredibly slowly due to their alicorn magic.
  4. Exactly. Furthermore, Consider the fact that Twilight has raised Spike since his birth. To Spike, Twilight is more than a friend - she's like a mother to him, the only mother figure he's ever had. She raised him from the moment of his birth. Normally, she would never treat Spike like a replaceable sidekick, then dismiss his sadness as merely a fit of "jealousy". Owl's Well ruins Twilight's characterization by making her seem negligent of Spike's feelings. Think of sibling jealousy - the feeling that a child gets when a new sibling gets more attention than them. Spike feels similarly, but feels it deeper than a sibling would since not only does he feel abandoned by his mother-figure, he also feels abandoned by all his friends. He's justified in feeling upset, for reasons outlined by DQ.
  5. As I've tried to transition away from pop/soda, I've been drinking more energy drinks. I'm currently drinking a new AMP flavor - Passion Fruit. It's phenomenal, and has a unique taste. I've tried a bunch of energy drinks, and I've narrowed my favorites down to Rip Its (super cheap, great taste), AMP (moderately cheap, excellent taste) and Rockstar (expensive, but tasty). I like Red Bull, but its ridiculously overpriced (3 dollars for a small can in my area). I don't usually enjoy "Energy Juice" types of energy drinks, and I don't particularly like sugar-free/0 calorie variants. My top 5 brands/flavors would be, as of now: 1. Rip It - 3 Way 2. AMP - Passion Fruit 3. Rockstar - Super Sours (Green Apple) 4. Rip It - Red Zone 5. Rockstar - Original Flavor
  6. I've never been one to frequent EQD, I generally only browse the site once in a while, so I'm not familiar with the community. I went ahead and joined the forums, but I probably won't use it much. MLPForums is where I'm most comfortable, so any other pony forum would be secondary. While I've heard the new EQD forums uses a more recent version of IPBoard, I still strongly prefer MLPF's layout & overall aesthetic compared to EQD's
  7. I quite enjoyed this episode. Discord episodes post-reformation have been particularly mediocre. It came to the point to where I stopped looking forward to Discord appearances. But I'm glad to say "Dungeons & Discords" marks a return to form. The jokes had me laughing throughout, probably the most I've laughed during an episode since "Spike at Your Service". The concept of a "guy's night out" was long over-do. Spike, Big Mac, and Discord all have strong performances, and while the pacing sort of falls off the track during the latter half of the episode, overall it was a fun experience. Chalk it up as one of Season 6's best episodes, and perhaps the best Discord-centered episode post-reformation
  8. This song instantly reignites nostalgia for winter time. I can't wait for the snow~ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCabI3MdV9g

  12. Will they open their eyes And realize we are one?
  13. I listen to many different genres of music - Rock, rap, electronic, metal, nu-metal, R&B, and so on. However, there are a few I very rarely play. The main genres I generally have a hard time listening to are death metal and country music, and to a lesser extent, pop music from the 70s and 80s, though despite this I do find certain songs from said genres enjoyable. The instrumentals in death metal are often awesome, but the deep screaming is a massive turn off. Country is just not my style (I didn't grow up around country music, I grew up around rock and rap), and old pop music is somewhat listenable, but it was before my time, and its hard for me to relate to that vibe & set of lyrics, if that makes any sense
  14. Spike was one my favorite characters from the first scene I ever saw of FiM (Bridle Gossip, Twilight & Spike walking into town), so to see him growing into a stronger character is awesome to see. I've always been somewhat lenient when it comes to criticizing the way he was written previously. In fact, I quite enjoyed his antics in episodes like Just for Sidekicks and Spike at Your Service. For as much as I liked his humor, and perceived greed, admittedly it was starting to get old. There's more to Spike than greedily wanting gems, and slapstick humor. My thought is that perhaps DHX is finally treating Spike as a legitimate member of the main cast (Mane 8) rather than a "sidekick". For the first few seasons, Spike was emphasized as "Twilight's assistant" rather than his own character. They often tied Twilight into Spike's stories, possibly because they didn't feel he could carry an episode or that people wouldn't find him as interesting as the rest of the Mane cast. However, the community has reacted very positively when Spike is written well, and his episode's quality usually reflects his characterization. He has finally been written well enough consistently to outgrow his old shell as a "sidekick", and shape into a determined, independent character. He's being written more in places where he fits rather than just being thrown into an episode for comedic relief, or for no apparent reason at all. Let's hope this trend continues.
  15. When somebody says “home”, what do you imagine? What set of particular visions illuminates in your mind? Do you perceive a physical place? Or an object? Or something entirely different? “Castle Sweet Castle” explores these interesting questions through a series of thought-provoking concepts. “Twilight's Kingdom” saw Twilight's home, the Golden Oak Library, which Twilight resided in during her life in Ponyville, destroyed in a monumental explosion. Perhaps we didn't realize it at the time, but a part of Twilight's world was shattered at that moment. Initially, the sight of falling debris and wreckage was a shock to her, but Twilight managed to hurdle those feelings of loss by channeling excitement about her new home which sprouted out of the box – with it came new opportunities for adventure and exploration. But time doesn't heal all wounds, and the wound inflicted by the loss of her home – the home that sheltered some of her most precious memories – was deeply stricken. Experience shows that the truth is, sometimes you simply don't know what you had until it's gone. The sense of loss and discomfort inevitably resurfaced, this time rendering Twilight incapable of feeling comfortable in her current residence. Her shiny new Castle only served as a reminder of what used to be. A shallow, empty collection of beautiful but dull corridors, a place that served as a house, but not a home. A roof, but not a shelter. In the same way that a clock does not create time but merely represents it, a house does not create a home, it merely tries to represent one. The ReMane 5 quickly take note of Twilight's bizarre change in behavior, and realize that something feels seriously off. Twilight does not like her new place, so much so that she'd prefer anything over having to spend time inside. The 5 have to figure out why. After sending her off with Spike, the cast of friends get to work making the Castle feel as welcoming and comfortable as possible. The fatal flaw in their plan is that they understand the issue, but are self-centered in their solution. While Twilight certainly loves and appreciates her friends, a collection of things that her friends enjoy is not necessarily going to make her feel at home. They created what appeared to be the perfect home – but the reality of the situation is that what makes a “home” is different for each individual. Instead of formulating Twilight's vision of a home, they subconsciously channeled their own vision. After stalling for more time, the friends rethink their approach. They realize that cramming in a bunch of objects, even if they were objects Twilight would appreciate, won't work. It's not about quantity, it's about quality. What Twilight misses most from the Library isn't necessarily the size and shape of the rooms & corridors, or the objects inside, but rather, the memories ingrained in those rooms. Some things in life are priceless. Memories are one of such things. They cannot be bought, sold, or traded. They simply are, and where they reside depends on where they were made. After a super catchy song and its reprise, Twilight's Castle breathes new life with the addition of a chandelier made out of the roots of the Golden Oak Library, with gems immortalizing the Libraries memories attached. No longer was the Castle seen as a burden. It was now an addition to the memories, and not just a sore reminder. It may only be a fraction of the old Library, but it's enough to make a dramatic difference for Twilight. My only complaint about the tail end of the episode, however, is the removal of the picture of the Mane 6. That would have been a nice touch. The old saying rings true – home is where the heart is. With the help of her friends, Twilight found her home once again. It was no longer a place to be avoided, but rather a place to confide in. A true “home”. This episode works on many different levels. The humor works (Twilight's crazy salon mane style, Spike's one-liners). Spike's role is welcomed, and executed well. I appreciate the notion that not only did Twilight lose a home, but so did Spike. He and his feelings mattered too, and its good to see the episode bring it up. The truth behind what makes a “home” is one of the most interesting, mature, and important morals in FiM. “Home” can be whatever you make it out to be, and whatever matters to you, whether its a physical place or not. I can relate whole-heartedly to Twilight's inner feeling of homesickness. I've bounced around from home to home throughout my life. Two out of the many houses I've lived in I've considered comfortable, real homes. The rest, like the one I currently reside in, felt more like roofs than shelters. The feeling of loss that occurs when you lose a home can feel like everything is falling apart. You lose a sense of safety and identity. It makes you question who you really are, and what you aspire for in life, and what you feel you're missing, what kind of spark you need to feel welcome again. Re-finding a home is like regaining that spark. To conclude this review/discussion/introspection of Castle Sweet Castle and its core message and concepts, and how its relatable, I'll say that I find the episode to be notably underrated. It's one of FiM's best and most mature episodes, one that can be appreciated by a lot of people.
  16. Hmm, I found the track to be disappointing. Something about the production feels off. And it's strangely short for a Metallica song. I preferred Lords of Summer
