  1. Thinking back, there have been some episodes I was too hard on. Equestria Games and Flight to the Finish are two of them.

Another on my mind is Sweet & Elite; years ago, I campaigned that Rarity should've been punished for lying to her friends and the Canterlot Elite.

But here's the question: Is punishment for Rarity really necessary? I don't think so.

Why? Because each time Rarity lied, she worsened her own predicament. Secondly, Rarity feels like she was in the middle of her big break at Canterlot and feared that if she told the truth, then Fancy Pants and the rest of Canterlot would turn her away. In short, she was creating her own dose of punishment, and the episode punished her for lying. So when she was confronted, she had to make a choice. At the end, she chose Twilight and her friends. She chose to be authentic and was rewarded for it.

Sure, S&E still had some big flaws (i.e., stereotypical antagonists, Spike being left out, the RM5 being dumb for the sake of the story), but Rarity's lying/terrible deeds isn't one of them.

Not to take sides, but would you say that in that light Rainbow's lying during Rainbow Falls was just as excusable or at least understandable?

Not here. The Wonderbolts were clearly manipulating with Rainbow Dash, once right in front of her teammates. Secondly, if she abandoned her team, then Ponyville's disqualified from the relay race. Lastly, there's no guarantee of Ponyville qualifying for ANY event, so she puts Ponyville in deep shit if Ponyville failed to qualify for the others.
