So the summer heat caused the pterodactyl to burst out of the amber'd tree sap. As GF takes place in the summer, and because The Deep End was set in a major heatwave, nice use of continuity while keeping it good and subtle.

And nice to see Dipper show some cracks from Soos's stupidity. So far, Soos has done some really stupid things that only made things worse for them in previous episodes. Sure, he can be dumb, but he's also lovable, and this series carries some level of continuity. Here, it doesn't matter if non of Soos's stupidity's ill-intended. He's approaching to the breaking point, and Soos nearly running over his head only proves his point.
