Ted Williams, the greatest hitter post-Babe Ruth, played from 1939-1960 (minus years fighting in WWII and Korean War). After he retired, Carl Yastrzemski took over his LF spot for 23 seasons. The records Yaz holds alone are incredible.
Leads team in:
- Hits (3419)
- Games played (3308, Dwight Evans second at 2505)
- RBIs (1844, five more than Ted)
- Total bases
- Doubles (644)
- Runs scored
And he’s either second or third in homers (behind Ted and Big Papi), WAR (overall & Offensive WAR), walks, and Runs Created (accumulative offensive production stat).
And don’t forget his AL Triple Crown from 1967 (last year anyone won that hitting achievement till 2012), 3-time batting champion, and MVP. Yaz was a fantastic player!
