Just a few years ago, TLK was considered to be overrated, but this fad of attaching that tag to it has dissolved over time. Gotta wait when Frozen, an excellent film and certain classic, will no longer be called “overrated,” too.

Perhaps. But it could be argued the other way, too. Cinderella always held out hope, and she only appeared when all hope was crushed. Secondly, Cinderella’s only friends were anthropomorphic mice within a fantasy, so the idea of a Fairy Godmother wasn’t very out of the ordinary. Thirdly, DEMs tend to occur at the end to resolve a conflict; the Godmother appeared during the middle, and her slipper had a very important role in the conflict and climax.
