@Cwanky Mhm! And statues of some of the biggest genocidal maniacs of all time (Columbus, Léopold II).

  3. P.S.: A teensy inaccuracy in your quote. It’s “out of the dumps,” not “out of her funk.”
  4. Different scenarios. Hurricane Fluttershy was about being able to confront her phobia. Here, Dash’s job is to distract the Crystal Ponies long enough for Twilight to retrieve the real Heart. Secondly, when you put on that armor, grab a lance, and step into the field, you’re expected to take part in the jousting. Dash was completely in the right. AJ’s guarding the fake Heart and keeping folks away from the altar. FS was the only one available. Honestly, I have to disagree. Dash has every right to brag, because she proved she can do things very well. Fly, clear skies, manage the weather. She’s proven to be the flyer and, thus, has the right to show it off. She’s rightfully proud of what she can do. I believe it’s more about balancing when to brag and how not to have that hurt anyone. For example, in MDW, she had reason to brag, because her quick action saved lives. At the time, her friends’ response to her bragging was no different than a pitcher getting pissed off at the batter after he flipped his bat once he crushed a terrible pitch. Once she focused more on herself over saving others, her bragging became detrimental. However, the moral doesn’t work for three reasons: the RM5’s hypocrisy, the RM5 using possible tragedies to intentionally one-up their friend, and how it blankety states that bragging, period, is bad.
  5. Not me. I enjoy ALL of the Mane Six, including Rainbow Dash. She has that balance of caring for others without talking down and supporting them, while also balanced by her ego and desire for company. There are times where I really dislike her episodes, but that fault belongs to WildBrain’s writers, not the character herself. When they get her right, it’s beautiful. HF, Sleepless, WA, TT123, Grannies Gone Wild, Washouts, Rainboom, and Common Ground all handle her really well. If you’re referring to her jousting with Fluttershy, she’s completely justified to be that involved. With Sombra nearby, it’s up to her friends to distract them and not know he’s waiting to attack. FS needs to buck herself up and try to act tough enough herself so the audience doesn’t get bored. Dash has every reason to be like this. When you got it, flaunt it. She knows she’s the best flyer in Equestria, fastest flyer in Equestria, and best asskicker in Equestria. She’s “awesome” in pure pony form. Why hide that fact when show it. If I wanted to see an episode where the script checked Dash‘s ego checked while not trying to bully her, the last episode I would recommend is this atrocious torture porn. Washouts handled this cliché much, much better. Yes, her ego got in the way of making Scootaloo believe her, but Rainbow Dash also was rightfully worried when Scootaloo wanted to join the much more dangerous Washout club without truly grasping Dust’s manipulation; viewing it from her perspective and watching Confalone break it all down bit by bit really makes her sympathetic to the audience.
  6. Happy birthday! :D

  8. Ryan Knight (@ProudSocialist on Twitter) recently showed off a list from The Progressive Guide, which compiles all the progressives currently running for federal office, either as incumbents or challengers. If you can, check out their profiles, follow their actions, and see what they'll do for your communities.

Here's The Progressive Guide's website, where you'll find the updated list: https://progressive2020.cf/?i=1

  9. Seattle's very lucky to have Kshama Sawant, one of the best politicians in the country, as a councilwoman. Unbought and unbossed, she's fierce in helping the working class earn their fare share and keeping the powerful accountable.

  10. Even though not stated, the BLM protests have shown that, along with defunding the police and putting resources back into the communities themselves, reparations for Black people, families, communities, neighborhoods, cities, and descents of slaves must be a future priority.

  11. No way to cut it. Because he dared to speak out and protest police brutality, NFL ownership blackballed Colin Kaepernick. Win-loss record be damned, he was a lot better than at least half the QBs since they exiled him. If Goodell's damn serious about improving racial issues as part of a collective league, he should be signed and part of the team.

  12. If the MLB ownership didn't renege on the players and try to bust their union during this crisis, we'd be in the middle of Spring Training 2.0 right now.

  14. Brits taking down and dumped an Edward Colston statue into the sea made me aware of how vile this person is. He made his whole fortune on slave trading, including one company where he shipped 84,500 Africans to the British Caribbean and dumped almost 20,000 into the sea. How this disgusting scumbag was revered is beyond me.

These protests almost made me aware of a colonial Belgian royal named Léopold II, as Congolese were vandalizing his statues…oh my Lord, to say he was an evil man is an understatement! And what I read is really disturbing. Just a bit of it in the box below:

    Spoiler

From 1885 to 1908, at least ten million died, although it’s likely much higher.

In 1901 alone, a pandemic of several diseases brought forward by the King’s treatment of the Congolese killed at least half a million.

Famine ravished the population and increased the death rate.

If the King didn’t like how his slaves were handling the rubber and ivory demand, he would have the hands or feet of his slaves and even baby relatives cut off as punishment.

Children were kidnapped and sent to schools to become soldiers, half of them died from disease.

It’s one of the worst genocides of all time, rivaling that of the ravaging of the Caribbean Indigenous by Columbus, the Holocaust, the Armenian Genocide, The Trail of Tears, and the Great Leap Forward. Léopold II is one of the worst men in the history of the 19th Century, 20th Century (despite dying in 1909), and overall…yet Belgium erases his atrocities by glorifying him with statues all over. Having statues of him in Belgium is like Germany adorning statues of Hitler.

  15. This Reddit chain brings up some good points. The MPD’s murder of George Floyd and how police departments treated protesters really made a lot of people seriously confront their own biases regarding police brutality. Previously, people looked away or tried to justify it. With Floyd, you can’t. It was deliberate, calculating, disturbing, and caught on video. You can’t look at that video and not feel emotional somehow. I can’t look at it because it will make me feel MORE emotional.

Connect that to the disgusting race-motivated murder of Armaud Arbury and the police shooting of Breonna Taylor in Kentucky and all of the police brutality highlighted since the death of Sean Bell (Trayvon Martin, Tamar Rice, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Freddie Gray) and how cops have assaulted and maimed protesters the past two weeks (I.e., pushing down 75-year-old Martin Gugino, ignoring him as he bled from his ear, and the other 57 people from that same unit resigned from that unit [but not the department] in support of those cops who hurt him, and a cop from Philly being charged after instigating a brawl and clubbing a young white protester in the back of the head), more are finally opening up that these awful cops and these cases of police brutality aren’t simply the exceptions. Police brutality is the norm, and this corrupt, institutionally racist system has been okaying it for centuries.

All the "Karen's'' are making me sick. I want to scream I'm not like that, but doing so would make it look like I was.

  16. There are definitely folks who don't like Twilight. I've seen a few here and there around this forum. I can name a few. Led her group of friends into the Forest, discovered the sixth Element of Harmony, and reunite Luna with Celestia. Decided that it was better to reject Celestia's invitation to the Gala, seeing that it only hurt her friends and strained their relationships. After trying really, really hard to adjust to Ponyville's style of cleaning up winter and failing to do so, she discovered that the whole Winter Wrap Up had been disorganized for a long time. Realizing what she needed to do, she was able to organize the teams and lead all of Ponyville to clean up the snow just in time for spring. With help from Celestia, she re-realized the Magic of Friendship, reunited her friends, and everyone defeated Discord. Although not a moment herself, it's more about her connections to her friends. The RM5 realized that even though it sounded silly and paranoid to them, Twilight was dead serious in believing that Celestia will demote her. By not helping, she melted down and felt she had to take drastic measures to complete her assignment. When she was at her lowest moment, they stuck up for her in front of Celestia and got her out of a major predicament. Trapped inside the Crystal Castle, Twilight realized that she was unable to being the Crystal Heart back to its rightful place. So, as a result, she sacrificed her test and told Spike to take that heart back to the altar. Magic alone wouldn't be enough to beat Trixie, thanks to her alicorn amulet. With a little cunning advice from Zecora, they and her friends devised a really clever plan to get her to take it off: use illusions to make her believe that her necklace was more powerful. In Amending Fences, Moondancer called out Twilight directly about how her decision to blow her party off and vamoose. Despite it turning herself for the better, it cost Moondancer her confidence and self-worth. At a time where she was at her most vulnerable, TS departed without saying goodbye to those who thought of her as a friend despite not treating them like one…and then forgot about all of them. Had she not turn into an alicorn princess, she wouldn't have had the maturity to take this painful lesson firsthand. One of my favorite Twilight moments, period. With Twilight at Starlight's mercy, she treated her as an equal instead of an enemy. After understanding that circumstances beyond her control cost Starlight her lone friend, she offered her a chance to make everything right and truly understand the Magic of Friendship. All during the highs of Starlight's pains where she was this close to damaging the timeline for good. And when it was still possible to exile her and punish her however she and her friends saw fit, they went with a more proactive approach: teach her the MoF and use their own wisdom to help her along the way.
  17. Since entering the race last summer, Amy McGrath has been the Senate's personal pick to win Kentucky from Mitch McConnell. A conservative Democrat who considers herself a pro-Trump Democrat and immediately flip-flopped on voting for and then against Kavanaugh, she would allegedly fit right into the mold of other corporate Democrats that parade the US Senate.

But one person who entered the race early in the year has begun to pick up some serious steam and can win the primary and general: Charles Booker. A progressive from Louisville, he is campaigning for Medicare for All, Green New Deal, criminal justice reform, doesn't take corporate PAC dough, and supports a whole host of progressive ideals that have bled into American politics. As people protest in Kentucky, he has participated in them and helped them when needed. This evening, popular radio host Matt Jones (who considered a Senate run himself after McGrath kicked him off the air) announced his endorsement of Booker.

I really believe Booker can win the primary and beat McConnell. Go get 'em! :D

I hope Booker beats Mitch McConnell. He has got to go. He's nothing but a yes-man for Trump's ranting.

  18. As of this status, I complete the MLP 30 Day Challenge! :yay: This was an extremely fun exercise. After being out of reviewing anything FIM for a few months, it feels real good to stretch out this QWERTY keyboard and type out a few hundred characters every day! Maybe if G5's good and once that ends, I can do a similar exercise. :secret:

Drumroll, please! Day #30: Favorite voice actor/actress

That goes to Cathy Weseluck! When I went to have a poster I bought autographed at BronyCon Summer 2012, Weseluck was very approachable and kind. She really sounded like she loved being there and interacting with those who went to her autograph booth. ^_^

Day #29: Something you'd like to see in future episode What idea would you've like to see in FIM?

Well, FIM's already over (sans the S10 comics), so it doesn't make much sense to answer as if FIM's continuing. So, I'm improvising. :P

Newbie Dash is the most disappointing episode of the entire series. Despite a massive writing hiccup in the form of Rainbow Falls and the WBs presuming guilt before innocence in Investigates, Dash remained dedicated to joining the Wonderbolts. However, what should've been a celebration turned into a massive dud that tortured her from beginning to end and had her accept the hazing rituals from within the group.

This idea I have is that Dash has a new friendship problem within the WB/Academy area, which she must solve on her own. However, it's not Vapor and Sky Stinger, but a new pegasus in the rankings who had become disillusioned with the Wonderbolts and that the hazing culture within wasn't only hurting him, but making him consider quitting the group entirely too. As a result, Dash has a problem: how to keep the makeup of the group intact while accommodating for folks who find the culture outright toxic. The moral I'm thinking of is that while a whole group may be desensitized or used to the culture, not everyone will like it or feel welcomed because they find it toxic for good reason. As a result, said culture should be changed to make it more friendly.

I had one big problem with "Newbie Dash" Why would they put ONE building in such a way that you would have to cross over the runway to get to it? It made no sense.

Saw many of her fans with those two feelings at the end of last year.

  22. My top moment of Season 7. Big Mac didn’t speak much, so when he did, you listen. Asking Burnt Oak if he can hear more stories of his late dad strikes the viewer to the core, because it really shows how much his parents’ legacy means to him. A good chunk of my favorite moments tend to be the smaller ones or moments that lead up to them. While the CMCs getting their cutie marks was amazing in itself, what helped lead it was them deciding to check on Diamond Tiara’s well-being after falling out with Silver Spoon. For a long time, they withstood all the bullying she made them endure, yet at her lowest moment, they were worried about her and wanted to help her. Amending Fences is Twilight’s best episode, but that wouldn’t have happened without events like her original apology to Minny, Twinkleshine, and Lemon Hearts. These three folks worked with Moondancer, helped arranged her party, and extended her invitation to Twilight through them. To them, this was just how they knew Twilight and never saw it as a lingering deal. OTOH, Moondancer’s wounds were much deeper, as she never opened herself up that much before. Her rejection of Twilight caught everyone by surprise, and the puzzle was put together over The next two acts. Applejack staring at the front window as two shooting stars flung by the sky is my favorite moment of the show. During this moment, Granny told Apple Bloom that she was lucky many family members were able to make it to this upcoming reunion and that they may not make it next time. The fact that she said it makes it poignant. Many from her time are getting old and may not live for the next reunion. AJ’s parents are dead, and the stars indicate that. Put it all together, and you begin to understand why she dedicated herself to making the reunion so grand. Shadow Play is the best two-parter of the show and one of the five best episodes, but that wouldn’t be the case had the Map not called the RM6 to the Hollow Shades, the best plot twist of the entire series. For the first four acts, more and more pieces of this complex plot were beginning to be put together, but as it developed, Haber and Dubuc swerved us by having this Map call for a friendship problem? Why would the Pony of Shadows be related to the Map? This led to Starlight Glimmer beginning to question everyone’s decision to battle and interject herself as the investigator to why the POS and the Pillars are so connected in the first place. Without that plot twist, this transition to include Starlight makes no sense. This clue puts everything together into one cohesive, and amazing, story.
  23. Honestly, it worries me. So many shows have that hyper and silly atmosphere and all the characters have a similar silliness that the comedy gets shallow and bland following a first watch. No, I don't expect it to be anywhere nearly as good and impactful as FIM. Currently, anything above decent surpasses my expectations. However, most of the synopses show some promise; if they execute them well…y'got my attention.
  24. Watched all but three: Over a Barrel, Games Ponies Play, and McColts (the first few minutes only). Aside from that, I saw every episode at least once! Maybe it's me being a big fan of both seasons (eight in particular), but once you get the chance to see them, I think you're gonna have a great time.
  25. From last night:

    Quote

Following a traumatic encounter with an Ursa Major that resulted in loss of her horn and a permanent magical disability, no one came to help her, making her cope alone. At the time, she still didn't come to terms with her cracked horn. Despite being the Storm King's second in command and one of the most powerful and skilled fighters in all the land, all that power reminds her of the internal scars that still lingered. So why does she want her horn back so badly? To feel normal again. Despite going after it completely the wrong way, she has a relatable goal.

There's more I wanna talk about with this scene, but that'll be for tomorrow. Stay tuned. ;)

    Well, tomorrow's here! :yay:

    Day #28: Favorite Movie scene.

Even though the movie ignored virtually all of Twilight's magical abilities aside from grabbing stuff, the scene aboard Tempest's airship has that very raw feeling that makes Tempest's conflict personal. Why did Tempest join the Storm King? Because he promised her he can regenerate her horn as long as he captures Equestria and the magic of all four alicorns. She put her faith in a tyrant so she can feel normal again.

Earlier, Tempest's mutilated horn was discussed by others. It wasn't normal. And she was occasionally made fun of for it, even by folks she works for. Aboard the ship, Twilight was the first pony since her exile from Equestria to treat her like an equal and sympathize with her for what happened.

Additionally, both characters were at equal level. Twilight just lost everything. Her kingdom. Her friends. Her trust with everyone. And herself. As Princess of Friendship, she failed her duty. Being captured by Tempest was her rock-bottom moment, yet she shared that vulnerability with a unicorn who rejected the Magic of Friendship. This solemn moment helped commence Tempest's reformation and accelerate the grieving process that helped her come to terms with her disability.
