I think myself and anyone else with common sense hopes for and desires representation of minority groups into a media series. My biggest worry is when they include these minorities, they become token characters. (Minority) Characters in which the companies claim matter, but only matter on the surface or without any forethought.
Charles Schulz, a white man, accepted ideas from two African-Americans associated with a teacher so he can write Franklin, the first black kid in the Peanuts canon, with the proper respect and appreciation he deserves.
OTOH, PPG 2016 introduced Bliss as the fourth powerpuff girl, the first one to be black. But her race is a complete non-factor in the TV film and embodies AA stereotypes (namely her bad temper and Utonium being a deadbeat father). She's a token character.

Kids being the target audience of any child-family product is a gigantic misnomer in the marketing world. They may want it, but you're actually trying to sell the product to their guardians and hope they buy it for their kids. Why? Because their guardians generally control the income and are the decider of what to buy for them, so they're the true target audience of "kids' products."
