  1. >placed The Love God on a similar level of quality as Owl's Well (12th-worst FIM episode at the time) when I first watched it

WTF was I thinking then?! OW is much worse than TLG!

Now, it still warrants an F, but to compare it with another terrible FIM episode, maybe between Honest Apple (22nd place) and What About Discord? (19th).

  2. Creating a thread in Show Discussion. Expect it to come up tonight.

  3. Fire season has been brutal in California. Hope my neighborhood is safe.

  4. Ugh... I know people like them, but I have got to STOP looking at the MLP comics. Even when I get just the smallest glimpse anymore, it just infuriates me.

  5. Sorry I still haven't gotten my season finale review or MLP: The Movie review posted folks.  Between the move, new job, and A LOT of travelling to visit family and my girlfriend this past month, just been really busy, but I will try to get both done as soon as I can.  Don't wanna leave my pony fam hanging, and hopefully will get to spend more time with ya'll here again soon! :muffins:

  6. There's a big difference between backwards, regressive politics and agreeing with someone wearing a T-Shirt that called for the murder of journalists (and then applying the half-assed "it's sarcasm" defense). Schilling massively violated the character clause over the years and doesn't deserve the Hall vote based on the latter reason alone.

  7. Whether you love or this DTV sequel, you have at least give some credit to this song:

Also, the song Belle sings as she makes a gift for the Beast, I think fits her character, her desires, and her "I Want" song a bit better than her "I want adventure" reprise in the 1st film.

    Wouldn't you agree?

  8. For voicing tons of the show's most hated characters, Vincent Tong is a cool dude

  9. Spammers. My fave. <3

  10. Good night, and God bless you.

  11. Act 3 now.

And there's another huge problem with this episode: the jump scares. With everyone's face being hidden, you know a jump scare is coming. The jump scare tactic is a very huge cliché in horror, especially nowadays. It's very difficult to get someone jump without doing it so cheaply, and it's cheap here. And they're ruined even more by having Dash see Pinkie lie "sick" in bed to start Act 2. The audience knows they're coming, and it doesn't make 28PL's atmosphere all that unsettling in hindsight.

  12. *clicks back on 28PL*

    We're back!

  13. OK, I'M GOIN' BACK TO 28PL!!

    *hears @Kreamer, @Sparklefan1234, and @Captain Clark cheer*

    But first, dinner!

    Everyone:

  14. 8 minutes in.

    >Rarity tells Pinkie she wants Dash to QUIT IT!

    >Pinkie obliges, gets in on the revenge prank

*clicks off* I can't stomach this one anymore.

  16. Dash's "pranks" are less funny and more mean. AJ being pranked worked doesn't work, because pranking FS is lazy.

    1. Replacing Cranky's wig with a skunk.
    2. Replacing Big Mac's apple cart with a boulder, forcing him down the hill.
    3. As Spike sends a scroll to Celestia, Dash drops one to him, and he keeps sending them off without knowing she's up there.
    4. Mr. Cake bites hard into a sandwich, hurts his tooth. A brick lay in the middle.
    5. Replaces Cheerilee's lessons on other side of chalkboard with funny Dash drawing. (Okay, that one's a little funny.)

7+ in, and I'm close to quitting. Again.

  17. And Dash scares the shit out of FS to the point of her crying.

Dash, WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU THINKING?!! You know she hates pranks!!

    Quote

Fluttershy: *hyperventilates, starts crying* That wasn't funny! You really scared me! I hope you're happy.

    Harry: *growl*

Rainbow Dash *grinning*: Nope. You're too easy. You're scared of everything.

Mommy, can I quit watching it now?

  18. Hmm…what crappy FIM episode should I watch today?

    *looks at 28 Pranks Later*

    :(

Finished with MDW. It's long covered front and back. This episode is garbage. It was the first episode I hated, and now that I watched it in full for the first time in forever, I hate it more now.

    1. Awful dialogue? Check.
    2. Badly executed moral? Check.
    3. Awful characterization of the entire cast? Check.
    4. The episode and characters treat Ponyville's lives and the town's safety as secondary to teaching Dash a lesson. This broken premise ruins the entire episode from the get-go. It's the worst flaw of the whole episode.

I don't use predictability as a flaw nowadays, but in episodes like this one, it applies perfectly. This whole episode is completely mechanical. Every scene has three (or four) action scenes before an interlude. The structure makes the action not just repetitive, but boring, as well. This isn't an episode, but a virtual checklist instead. The overall pacing is shit.

TMMDW rubs in your face about how poorly behaved Dash is and treats her like a bad person for bragging. Before Dash starts being lazy in saving everyone's lives, the episode villainizes her. From the get-go, the episode paints her as a bad person, because she had the gall to brag and have an ego. The way the episode's written implicates that being self-confident in your best qualities and having an ego under any circumstance is really bad for you. Contrary to popular belief, pride and ego aren't inherently bad things; how you channel them determines it. If MDW showed that it's not bad to have self-confidence and pride in something, you may get a deep conflict. Unfortunately, MDW chooses an archaic, absolute, and destructive attitude towards them both.

    Fuck this episode!!

Twilight Sparkle: Of course we want you to be a hero.

Applejack: But a real hero doesn't brag. *wink*

  23. >Dash worried at how to compete with MDW's strength, agility, and magical prowess. As Dash flies, MDW!Shy zooms by the other way.

Y'know, the RM5's plan to teach her a lesson isn't just evil, but stupid, too. Dash may be oblivious, but she's NOT an idiot. If she had any brain cells at her disposal, she'd realize that the MDW is actually her friends, but she doesn't, because she's too out of character and flanderized to connect the dots. If she found out at the end of the dam scene, we'd have 7-8 minutes left, but y'gotta fill up the 22-minute runtime.

The notorious SCC scene really hammers in their identity (and evil plan that we should be cheering for). *sigh* Lord help me now… *begins to watch scene*

  24. MDW!AJ hops in and rescues Cherry from her carraige of doom. Everyone raves her for her bravery, and Mayor Mare suddenly shows up to declare her a "new hero" and the Mysterious Mare Do Well.

*ugh* Episode, why do you ham-fist the MDW so much, and she only appeared for one half-minute in this scene?!
