I think it's more that fathers / mothers want to protect their daughters from the wrong kind of guy, rather than objecting to the idea in itself. There are a lot of jerks out there, I'm sure no one will be suprised to hear. Teenage brains are not exactly the most discerning decision makers either, so a parent could understandably be concerned about his / her daughter's hormones making the decisions for her, and her falling for a boy who ends up being a mistake and an eternal regret. Then again, perhaps that boy will grow out of his youthful.... youth and end up being an equal member of the relationship. And what about the converse? How do mothers feel about their son meeting and interacting with women?

I'm with @Goat-kun on this one. Call me stubborn, but I've never considered the comics canon - even within the first two story arcs, there were multiple contradictions between the comics and the show. So I don't use them for arguments about the show or accept arguments about the show made using them. Nor do I particularly care what the writers themselves think of the matter... they've never shown that they are putting in the time and effort to make sure the comic's stories fit with the show - see the above point re contradictions. For example, I don't consider it true that Nightmare Moon was created by moon-dwelling fart-spirits possessing Luna or whatever that Celestia-awful Nightmare Rarity arc used as a reason. Not to say that I don't find some of those comics enjoyable, because I absolutely do. I just don't think they portray events that happen in the same continuity as the show itself. The show ending won't change that for me. The story of show-G4 ends at the same time as Season 9 does. Any comic set after that merely extends the comic continuity.
