  1. It will probably be some time before I figure out what exactly I want the characters too look like. I will first build a base personality for the characters, as well as their role in the story. I imagine their appearances should follow naturally afterwards. I wouldn't worry about it too much now though. At this time, I have not defined the appearances yet, and really I am not ready to assign tasks to people until I know how much manpower I have to work with.
  2. I don't mean to neglect your idea (which holds promise), but I already have a rough idea on how the story will go... Also, If you couldn't tell by my OC with the poorly drawn right eye, I have no experience in computer art either. XD But I could always use some character designs. I have yet to compile a complete list of characters, but there definitely will be pegasi racers nurses. Doctor(s)/nurse(s) are possible as well. In any case, if you know of any popular works of the fandom, I may sneak a related reference into my work...or I might not. Either way, I would probably enjoy the suggestions. You know, this could all be a rouse just to get people to send me popular Brony works so that I don't have to look for them! (O.O)

  4. So, I have been thinking about starting my own Turnabout crossover for MLP, set to follow up the story line of the original (a continuation). As I am currently in college, I am still in the brainstorming phase, writing down background information and back story for new characters, as well as invent a convincing and perplexing crime whilst staying believable and logical. I figured I would take this time to try to drum up some support for a full on project similar to Turnabout Storm. If I can get voice actors, some musicians (though given enough time, I could write my own music), artists, and at least one animator, I think this could turn out very interesting. I will work on this project periodically until Summer, where I will spend plenty of time writing and revising the story. If I don't get enough people, I will just write a fanfic version of my idea, and perhaps someday someone with the resources will be inspired to adapt it. If you are interested, just say so in the comments. State what you would like to do, and we will see if this goes somewhere! If you want to be a voice actor, you must have a good mike and you must be able to emote. If you think can differentiate your voice without sacrificing you ability to emote, feel free to try for multiple parts (which of course, you don't know about yet...). For now, you should just get a good mike though, and even if this project fizzles out, you will have a good mike for a different project! I will post an update for specific vocal roles needing to be filled. **It should be noted that I want characters from Turnabout Storm with an established voice to be played by their original VAs if possible. This means the parts for Phoenix Wright, Sonata, Cruise Control, and a few others may not be available. If I cannot achieve this, however, I am more than willing to let you voice as any character, provided you've got the stuff! There are some voices I DON'T want from the original, also (Applejack's comes to mind...). Don't be afraid to audition just cause you think a voice is taken though! I am open to new possibilities! If you want to write music, I only will need a few original compositions. I imagine having Sonata as the defense attorney for a large portion of this story, so she will need her own theme during the "cross-examination" phases of the story. Ideally, the music should sound characteristic of the Phoenix Wright games, but I leave creative freedom beyond that to the musicians. This is something that could be started right now, actually! Of course, there need to be a few themes, where some build suspense with a faster tempo and whatnot. Just have fun with it, and I will select my favorites. If you want to draw for this project, I will need some original characters and backgrounds. The new characters will all be ponies (as far as I am aware...), so once I decide on what new characters will be needed, I can let you all have fun with it. Eventually, these characters will need "sprites" for the animator to use. Background need to be characteristic of MLP's style. Additionally, "evidence" will need to be drawn, but this is a small order. Also, being able to slightly alter preexisting sprites may come in handy. If you want to animate it, I need to see what you can do beforehand. I haven't animated anything before, but I imagine that the style of animation in Turnabout Storm is probably less difficult that other styles. In any case, if you could create a little snippet showcasing your talent as an animator, I can judge what will look good, and what won't. The main focus is quality, though animation style is a prevalent factor as well. And FINALLY, I love the show, but there are plenty of references and jokes out there that would make people laugh that I simply just don't know. I will not try to force anything into my story, as that would be distracting, but feel free to suggest a popular fanfic, animation, or related material about either MLP or Phoenix Wright, and I will give it consideration. This is not necessarily a definite project. I am just seeing if such a project is feasible. IF I get enough volunteers, I will take the next step into making this project a reality!
  5. Thanks for the advice! I decided to slow down the beginning from 120 BPM to 96 BPM. It was a bit fast for what I was going for. I will have it accelerate the measure before the 2nd phrase though to where it was before (120 BPM). As for the 2nd phrase, I like how it builds momentum, and don't plan on shortening it. I have been brainstorming how I want to do the 3rd phrase, and I am actually considering a sudden slow section with a reduction of instruments (probably piano and baritone only, at least for the beginning of the phrase). It most likely will reintroduce the piano melody from phrase one, but starting in the minor, giving it a different effect. If I was writing a longer piece (say, 8+ minutes), then I would be more gradual with my changes. This is just intended to be an outro long enough for Frog to talk with it in the background. Frog lets the outros play all the way through when he finishes talking, so I don't want it to be too long.

  9. @@Burning Question I am using a free program called "MuseScore". It is kinda simple, and some of the instruments that come with the soundfont sound mediocre at best, but for what I payed for (nothing), it is pretty good! Pretty easy to use. If you want to make REAL music though and you have the cash to spend, you are better off buying a program. I am kinda just experimenting right now (I played the trombone for 9 years, but never took any music theory or the like), but if I decide to get serious about music, I will probably end up looking for a program to purchase. (Side note: A good music theory website is <http://www.musictheory.net/lessons>) @@Newbie I am personally a fan of small ensembles of mostly strings (violins, contrabasses, and perhaps flute), but I am experimenting with the piano. It is pretty fun!
  10. @@Burning Question The beginning would sound nice softer (relative to the rest). Overall, my program doesn't play my song back as loud, so when I save a file, I have to listen, go back, and adjust. I have also been considering adding some other instruments (like drums), but haven't really decided yet... As for what I will do next...I really haven't decided yet. Either I will make this a slow piece overall, in which case I will transition back into Eb major (it began in Eb major and moved into the relative C natural minor), or I will make it a multi-movement piece, and add other sections (like a fast, intense section)

  12. @@OrangeRiff It is a program called "MuseScore", although the program itself isn't really at fault. It is the soundfont that needs changing. (A soundfont is a file of prerecorded sound that the program uses to play the composition.) I am looking into better soundfonts, and I have already changed the clarinet, tuba, crotales, and drums. I don't care for my replacement drums, but they don't have the background crackling, so they will have to do for now. When I have the time, I will upload a better version.
  13. <p>I'm not a professional musician by any means, but here is what I think.</p> <p>I won't claim to have perfect pitch, but it sounds G major-ish (with the beginning instrument (vibraphone?) playing the E and G). It does sound a bit repetitive, but really doesn't sound bad at all. Anything as simple as changing the chords would have added some variance. Moving a half step is pretty nifty, or changing the chord by moving the root to the fifth (essentially just removing a flat or adding a sharp). The real reason it sounds repetitive though is the moving line is the same every 2 bars. Before you even try changing the chords, you should just brainstorm melodies. The one you have is a great start! But for variety you should make at least it a 4 bar phrase. (I am personally a fan of 8 bar phrases, where the 1st and 2nd bar are repeated by bars 5 and 6, and the last 2 bars deviate from bars 3 and 4).</p> <p>Same applies to the beat. It is a good beat, but it is always the same. The beat is the easiest thing to vary, since you don't have to worry about pesky pitches, but be sure to make it fit with the melody. </p> <p>It is a great start! You just need to play with what you have and keep inventing new, creative ways to build off of what you already have! Here is a great example of a remix that takes a simple melody and builds off of it to sound absolutely amazing.</p> <p><a data-ipb="nomediaparse" href=" "> </a></p> <p>Note that the first minute is just the melody and/or the chords, though the musician behind it cleverly used variations to alter the sound. After that you get counter melodies, but the chord changes are always the same. </p>
  14. @@Flutte_rs @ Thanks! I thought it sounded pretty good for being made on a free program. I tried to make it manly enough for Drake (who is the non-brony in ClassyCo17's commentary, but that might change soon enough. Dun dun dun!), so I added a military march-ish beat in it.

I have read about how if it is a natural minor, it won't have a raised 7th. Does that mean all natural minors are modal, and all harmonic minors are "minor"? (And melodic minors kinda shift in and out of this definition...)

  19. I am working on creating a custom outro for ClassyCo17 (who you should totally check out btw!). It is going great, but since I don't have any knowledge in music theory...I could use some advice as to how I should proceed. The composition is in F Major, and I was thinking about transitioning into the relative minor (D minor) for the next part. I would like to know some information about how these transitions should be used in music. I am attaching what I have so far. Advice greatly appreciated!   20. Well, I feel I have made a huge improvement in my composition skills, and this is the result. I need to work on my transitions, but overall I am proud of this one. EDIT: I have now completed my work to the best of my ability. The ending still feels a bit awkward (need to look up music theory on cadences), but this is complete! Variance.wav

The reason I didn't raise the Gb in measure 4 is because I read about melodic minors and it says in the descending lines, it should be Gb, but now that you point it out, it could be considered the pickup to the next measure, which would make the line ascending, and therefore requiring G. Thanks! If you want to do an in depth analysis, that is fine with me! I can only improve from what you have to tell me, so I am all ears. I wouldn't want to inconvenience you with any perpetual nagging though...I'll start with only 5 PMs a day. XD In any case, I went ahead and transposed Strings Attached (name subject to change) into A minor, and have added the Violins 1 part. Have a taste.   22. @@Antismurf9001 Alright! Feel free to let me know what I did wrong...and what I did in general, cause I have no clue. XD Basically how I started making these is I would choose a key signature, make a melody, then some chords. If the melody sounded off, I would adjust the tones while usually keeping the rhythm. Then I would make a counter melody base off the melody and follow the same steps. I like to think I have great aural skills, despite having no actual knowledge.   23. It is just that I don't feel comfortable giving up my self awareness. From my understanding, hypnosis is a partial dream state where the subject releases the brain's control of logic and reality, allowing the subject to become easily enveloped in any basic scenario and takes advantage of the brain's natural tendency to form a cohesive structure of the thoughts that follow. For someone who experiences frequent dreams or who daydreams regularly, this would come easily, but I rarely recall having dreamed, and I fail to recall the last time I daydreamed. Hypnosis only works if the subject is open to the procedure, and unfortunately I am not. Still, I do not doubt that it is possible with the track you created. It might benefit to have some visuals, however.

  25. @@Antismurf9001 Thanks! Although I have a load of experience playing music, I have no education on music theory so I kinda just guessed at the correct pitches. I am currently reading up on some things though (like harmonic and melodic minors, which I plan on using a melodic minor in my next composition) and hope to become more technically accurate over time. I really do love modulation.
