  1. Update on my internet problem: I started using Chrome last night instead of Firefox and my connection hasn't slowed nearly as much. Not sure how Firefox would cause that but I think I'm going to reinstall it later.

And while typing this my internet did slow down but it was only for a few seconds so I have no idea if Chrome is actually working better or if I've just been lucky since last night.

Easiest way is task manager - right click on the icon bar at the bottom of your window, and select "start task manager" - the performance tab will give you graphs of cpu and ram usage overall, and the processes tab can be sorted by memory or cpu usage to see who the worst offenders are.

Yeah it isn't Firefox causing it. Thought it was because every time my internet slowed down Firefox was open and it stopped being slow as soon as I closed it but Firefox isn't open right now and my internet slowed again. It's not related to CPU or anything, but my computer's connection to WiFi. Not my WiFi, but my computer's connection to it. Every other device in my apartment is connected to the same WiFi but they don't slow down randomly. This is the only one that does.

maybe the wifi arial isn't very good then? I know on a number of my laptops the bulit-in wifi had trouble picking up "guest" wifi in hotels and coffee shops, but when I bought a usb wifi adaptor the problem went away....
