  5. A preview of a song I'm working on. It's a vocal rendition of the chorus in one of my previous songs. The jazz offense.

While I'm not a singer, I do think this sounds pretty swell :)

Also, hi I'm back again and I'll be roleplaying again soon!

Not bad!  Love the harmony on that barbershop quartet, but...huh...the harmony sounds like it's the kind of harmony that's about to build up to something else that's about to come, like it's trying to be squeezed forward into a larger and more open harmony, like going through a bottleneck...if that's making any sense.

For context, I was talking about the Soundcloud clip that I could see here, that was about 20-30 seconds long.

    2. Scribblegroove

      Scribblegroove

you're perfectly right. The harmony directs to an A minor 7 chord, which is the start of the new couplet, but it stops right before then. I'm still working on the rest of the song :)

      Thanks for your feedback.

Seems a little melancholy with the all the low pitches involved, and the chords and note-changes are...I dunno, a little off...just enough "off" to make them sound sad, not enough to make them sound bad though.

  6. New piece I've written, if anyone can come up with some snazzy lyrics or theme don't hesitate to tell me -

    - life at the conservatory is very busy, hope I can find time to RP soon :3

Well, you're welcome! I appreciate your music, too---I don't expose myself to jazz much, so this really helps broaden my horizons!

At first, I wasn't sure what meter this song would be in---5/4? 3/4? In the end, it seemed like 4/4 time, and it was an excellent piece! I love how the deep melody fades in and out and trades places with the higher-pitched pulsing background from time to time; I can see why you named it Opposites Attract!

Listening to this, I'm thinking---imagine Lindsey Sterling mixing in some violin to this! It seems like a very remixable piece; it's great as-is, but i...

  11. to justify my absence lately: I've been working on my composition which I preformed tonight as part of a competition. I won and am now in the finals with 12 of the best young composers in my country. This is the piece we played (it's an old version though, the newer will be up soon) https://m.soundcloud.com/scribblegroove/going-home-without-vocals/s-zbtbW I don't know how many of you care but I really felt like sharing this. I hope it will make some of you happy :)

I think I've heard an earlier version of this song. The instrumentation in this version sounds perfect! It's very melancholy and yet also hopeful piece.

It kind of sounds like the instruments are having a conversation with each other, largely agreeing with each other, too...

I could tell I'd love it within the first five seconds! And I did.

I noticed some sort-of empty spaces, if you know what I mean, around the 1:18 mark or so---measures that had some echo to them in their first repetition around the 1:08 mark and then no echo two or four measures later, but that might've been both intentional and a good thing.

The instrumentation of the piece overall seems to have changed, for the better (either the instrumentation or the rela...

      Nice!

If I may offer some constructive criticism: maybe the melody should have a slightly different instrument at about the 2:08 mark? I can tell with the bass parts at that stage of the song that it's trying to be more formidable, and it is (especially around the 2:38 mark or so), but would a resonant church organ be the right way to go there? ...Or is that exactly what instrument is there?

Thanks a lot for your feedback. I'll try to mess around a bit with your idea, see if it sounds right.

Current instruments are woodwind and brass.

  20. I'm so very sorry to everyone waiting for me to post in Roleplays. I've always been rather unreliable when it comes to that, but lately I've been extremely busy. Right now I'm travelling to Italy. In about 12 days I'll be able to post again.

  21. A pop artist plays 3 chords to 10 000 people, whilst a jazz player plays 10 000 chords to 3 people ;( Such is life I guess

It's all about the passage of time, Jazz killed Classical, Rock killed Jazz, Hip-Hop killed Rock, and whatever it is now (a big jumbled mess of everything) killed Hip-Hop. But all of these genres were considered Pop at one point, as Pop is just what's popular.

    2. Scribblegroove

      Scribblegroove

It's sad that the amount of skill vs amount of popularity factor changed dramatically as well. Not to say that none of the popular artists deserve their fame, but sometimes I'd wish that guys like this got a little more attention:
