Yes, I agree with you completely! It bothers me as well, I actually get kind of emotional over this situation b/c it's just so awful, horrible thing that happened! But yeah, their "inspiration" was for sure part of the reason why it happened. There really should be an age limit on sites like those. Which, I'm sure it's a great site with some great writings but still.

Sadly age restrictions aren't always as effective as they appear to be, it doesn't take much to outsmart a simple age checking system in several ways. One such exception I could think of would be where credit card verification is required but then you're not likely to find a site combining those two elements are you? :/

True. Plus, anyone can read the stories that are posted, I could easily access them without much effort at all.

Even in registration, it's still easy enough for someone to lie about their ages, hence all the little kids all over youtube!
