not quite what i meant. i look at their progress, seeing more quality in what they used to do. most of them have a drop, or just a plateu in their art quality.

That plateau is their limit. Try as they might they can't personally improve beyong that point, at least, not by much. As for the drop, that's usually a sign that they're burnt out or losing interest, but they feel obligated to keep going. It causes a drop in quality due to lack of motivation, you have to know what that feels like.
