  1. For me, I just got the Valve index VR Headset and 3 trackers after Thanksgiving. I go on a few times a week. I've been interested for about a year though. Initially I started looking into it because I saw stuff about Zuckerberg's Metaverse B.S.

I was pissed because it looked like he was just looking to monetize it and suck the creative soul out of it before it even got off the ground. His "$4.5 billion" 2002-ass graphics pissed me off as well.:lostit:

Anyway, I found out about VRChat, and that it actually looked pretty sweet. I then found some cool people through YouTube and Twitch and interacted/got to know some of them over the past year. In that time I also found out you can use VRChat on a PC without a headset. I finally got things budgeted and got a the headset and trackers after Thanksgiving.

Knowing some people you can use VR with is what makes it really fun.

  2. It turns out I've pretty much always kind of been one I guess? I was a kid in the 90's and early 00's, So I grew up with a lot of cartoons and ads with anthro characters. In elementary/grade school I was in cub scouts (younger kid version of Boy Scouts.) The book is funny to look at now because there is an anthro wolf pack leader guy or something who's like on like every other page.

SOOO I generally always liked anthro characters in entertainment. I just thought of it as normal and didn't think about it. THEN when I was middle school, the infamous CSI Furry episode aired.

This was my first exposure to "Furries" and any concept or idea of the community or anything. Internet at the time was still very commonly dial-up and pre-social media as we know it. After seeing that I NOPED away from that for YEARS.

I've come across some stuff over the years and then found MLP in my early 20's kind of by accident. I liked it because they were "talking animals" AND seemed to be late teens/early 20's which was odd/interesting to me- especially compared to what MLP was in the past. I also loved that it was flash animation- which I had some experience animating with a little in school. Well I've been around here since and have even gone to the G4 MLP movie with an MLP Facebook group. I met a furry couple (in normal clothes lol) that I sat across from when we went to dinner after. They were cool, and I wasn't thinking it was all like the CSI episode anymore. I still wasn't actively seeking anything more about it at the time though

THEN comes around thanksgiving last year. All the BS was going around about Zuckerberg and his "Metaverse" crap and I was getting mad thinking about him just trying to suck some cash out of it while sucking the soul and creativity out of it in the process before it even really had a chance to go anywhere.:unamused:

Well, with COVID going on the last couple years and  having to work normal throughout it, I missed out on what's going on with VR on the non-corporate side. It actually is pretty cool especially VRChat. I ended up finding videos about VR furries in VRChat when looking up VR. There were some using Omegle (random webcam chat site) so they would show up as their furry avatar to the other person and were recording their reaction/conversations. It was pretty funny. Then I found out that they stream on Twitch and it's pretty hilarious. There is definitely a spectrum in ratings though, I'm sure you get what I mean. The group I associate with now I would say generally is pg13 and kick out people being too obnoxious or lewd. The group also calls each other out if they use "furry words" aka equivalent to saying "everypony" or "every creature" which I love. I DON'T like nonsense talk. Basically they're pretty normal and discuss pretty normal things. The main difference is that everyone just has some kind of anthropomorphic avatar.

I have a project that is a webcomic/ animated shorts that got sidetracked big time by covid pretty much destroying 2 years of everyone's life. The main character I guess could be considered "furry related" somewhat. I may roll that project in with this VR stuff somehow as time goes on. I don't think the character could be my "fursona" since he's quite a bit different then me and has an accent (which is important), but we'll see. Who the hell knows, it might work and could be really fun, especially if I make all the settings I've thought up for the project into VRChat worlds. I mean there's a lot of possibilities with this VR stuff.

As for now I don't have a "fursona" per se, but I just have an avatar I use in VRChat.  it's a common model you can buy and customize called a Nardoragon. I just found a free "public" one that has a design I like. I'm working on getting a VR setup, but it's not cheap. You can use VRChat with just a keyboard, mouse and monitor, except your arms/hands just don't do anything. I have a microphone and generic Xbox style controller I've been using for now.

I've just ordered the graphics card to upgrade my old one, but I still have to get everything else set up where I want it and get internet at my house, since my phone in hotspot mode WON'T cut it for that LOL.

IRL though, I don't have any interest in getting a fursuit. I don't have anything against them, and the detail work on some is VERY cool. I just personally have zero interest myself in being a walking stuffed animal. Plus I have a thing of not liking blank staring eyes. At least in VRChat they lock on to what you're looking at and you can even get ACTUAL eye and face tracking if you want to spend the money.

  3. My default ringtone is the very beginning instrumental part of Eiffel 65- Too Much of Heaven.

For some contacts I use the very end instrumental lead out of Coldplay-Clocks.

My text notification is Pinkie's Squee noise from getting strangled by Gilda!:blink:

  4. So randomly on my YouTube feed I saw some clips of a show called Tales from Moominvalley I think it's called. Now for some reason I SWEAR I saw some of it as a kid. I remember the ghost hippo things and the guy with the pointy hat. The thing is SUPPOSEDLY IT NEVER AIRED IN THE U.S. It is a Finnish/Japanese show.

    Moomin.png.91ed764d756253576d5abe3a790da784.png

From the clips I've seen it seems like a pretty chill show (compared to a lot of the modern spazz fest kids shows), and I like the green hat guy's (Snufkin) kinda chill, yet snarky deadpan demeanor.

I kind of get the vibes similar to The Hobbit animated movie also. (1977) I know I'm not mixing the two up because my Dad read the book to me as a kid and I remember that Bilbo had hairy feet and the curly hair.^_^

    hobbit.png.e28cf535879a8ac018dbcf0158eb012e.png

The thing is that I was a kid in the 90's. YouTube came out when I was in high school and we had just a family computer with 56k dial up internet prior to that, so I know I didn't see it online.

It's just so weird because I could swear I've seen it eons ago but supposedly from what I've looked up, it wasn't on TV in the states.

Has anyone else here in the US seen this as a kid? I feel like I'm going crazy or something. I definitely remember that pointy green hat Snufkin character. Speaking of 90's- this is like Unsolved Mysteries going on here!

  5. I did for a while in the past about electronics and car stuff. It did, and is still doing better than I thought. I don't have many videos.  It's been a while since I've actively done anything on there because Google keeps screwing up the partnership program. I ended up getting knocked out because my channel was suddenly deemed too small. I would NEVER rely on that as a sole source of income. It was nice with a little extra hobby money.

Eventually I'll get it going again, mainly with stuff about 90's to 00's electronics and computer stuff, since I have A LOT of that to tinker around with. Probably more car stuff too.

I could just run the camera and post, but I like to do editing so the video is useful and concise and not wasting peoples' time. That in itself takes a lot of time though.

  6. Trash. I don't technically have internet at my house (because other bills) and use my phone as a hot-spot. It's definitely throttled. When I try to use my laptop with it, it's crap. :smolder:

The only thing that runs decently with it is my Roku thankfully.

The main internet I use is good though at my parents' house by my work. I have my main computer there still since I keep everything up and running over there anyways.

  7. Just wondering what you guys use these days for streaming and why.

I mainly use a Roku Streaming stick.

The funny thing is that I have a smart TV already. My problem is that I don't have dedicated internet service (because other bills) and instead run my phone as a Wi-Fi hot-spot. My smart TV doesn't really like it and works crappy doing that. The Roku works with it fine though- although the bandwidth only lets it top out at 720p if it's in a good mood. I also like the Roku interface better. It's simpler and more straightforward.

I do watch some YouTube videos on my computer I have over at my parents house, but not for too long because of the chair and the screen. I prefer watching video/moves on a large screen and on the couch or a comfy chair. If I had better internet at my house I would probably use my computer with a wireless keyboard. One thing I hate about the Roku is entering text with the stupid remote.:unamused:

At work at lunch I might watch YouTube a little too, but I HATE the small screen for that. I can see it just fine, it just bugs me.

  8. Well my first "TV" was a TV PCI card for my computer. That was probably around '03 or '04. I was about 15. It was over the air antenna. I got a CRT TV at a garage sale for like $15 around 2005, when I was like 17. I finally got cable in my room when when I was like 25 when we got carpet upstairs and I routed cable through the floor to a few other rooms also. The main thing I was happy about was that I could watch MLP as it aired :squee:. Rainbow Falls was the first episode I saw live.

Now at my house I just have over the air and streaming.

  9. "Murder She Wrote" is what immediately popped in my head, even though I maybe have only seen an episode or two in my life.

With the recent passing of a star like Angela Lansbury at age 96, who I knew best as Mrs. Potts in the animated Beauty and the Beast and as Miss Price in Bedknobs and Broomsticks, I must ask what would you do to honor her memory and what did you love the best about her work?

I didn't know she voiced the teapot. I haven't seen that movie in over 20 years, but still remember the voice.

  10. My cat's name is Xyon. He's 5. I named him because of Zion national park and its weird orange banded rock formations, since he has some orange in his fur. His nickname is biggie because he's a pretty large cat (not fatness).

The family cat who lives with my parents is named Shady. We adopted her back in 2004 at around a year old. She's somewhere close to 20 at this point.

She's got thyroid, kidney, and hearing issues, but only takes a few pills. Every few days she goes on a quick trip to the vet to get "juiced up," aka a bag of saline injected under the skin because she can't hydrate properly otherwise even though she drinks and pees A LOT. She doesn't fight about the pills or vet- it's just routine at this point. She's still mobile and happy otherwise.

  11. I occasionally will play a full album through, but usually not.

I've used iTunes since the mid 2000's and usually buy songs from there. If I like about half the songs on an album then I'll buy the physical CD vs downloading. As of late, I've been getting some older albums on CD's in like new to very good condition at a Salvation Army thrift store near my work. It's more than worth it if I like the album or need a song. They're 50¢ whereas a single song download on iTunes is $1.29. I have a lot of stereo equipment and usually play at least a song or two from CD's a couple times a month.

I don't use streaming for music except maybe looking up something on YouTube. I have an iPod Nano with Bluetooth I still use mainly and have some songs on my phone's memory card if I forget that. I would never pay for a music streaming service though or use one with commercials.

Vinyl records I only buy if I really like the album art. I have a couple record players, but don't use them often. Usually it's some of my parents' classic rock albums when I do.

    Vinyl records I have:

I also want to get Pink Floyd's Dark side of the moon on LP

  12. Open. I have my own place with a cat. If I had my door closed, I probably wouldn't be able to sleep because my cat would be crying outside wondering why I would do such a horrific thing to him.

Before I moved out though, I used to always have my door closed. The main TV room was right outside my door and my family are night owls.

  13. A tan/sand color. I didn't pick it since it was there when I moved in. It's pretty neutral, so I don't mind it. Its MUCH better than my old bedroom.

When I lived at my parents house it was a light greenish/mint, kind of like Lyra. I picked it when I was almost 6. Bad age to pick paint colors. I ended up hating it most of my time there. I remember wanting a chartreuse lime greenish color even.:mlp_confused: Luckily my dad didn't let me go with that.
