The series relies too heavily on the tie to Equestria.
Slashy replied to Slashy's topic in Equestria Girls
Oh wow did I really say that? I must have been tired. What I meant to say was "I believe the human world can be built on its own outside of its tie to Equestria for fantastical elements." The human world doesn't need to be tied to Equestria to seem extraordinary, it can just basically do everything conceivable in our world that doesn't involve magic. Half the enemies Superman and Batman face don't involve magic or a complete butchering of the laws of reality. -

How do we know it isn't someone who needs Twilight's help in a conflict that Twilight wouldn't want to get involved in in the first place? That would be more interesting than just having it be a villain. But this is pretty stupid overall. He builds up this entire theory and then jumps to conclusions at the end.

MLP could benefit to take some inspiration from Mario.
Slashy replied to Slashy's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Video game animated series have a decent track record though. MLP doesn't need to drastically change itself to start taking inspiration from Mario, heck most of it would just come in the form of way more interesting new locations and gimmicks (i.e. the toy stuff Hasbro forces into the show, The Cutie Map). The slice of life plots could be left the same, the characters can still be the focus since it is the biggest strength MLP has over Mario. The Mario influence should really only take hold on action/adventure episodes. -
It would probably better play to the strengths of the series and what it is trying to accomplish. In many ways Mario shares a lot of similarities with MLP on a surface level. The character design, world design, tone, and audiences are similar. There is also the element of "a story built around a gimmick" that exists in both series. It is able to work past many problems MLP has with revolving staff, "anything goes" world design, world building, gimmick integration. Yes, Mario is a game, but the way it often tells its stories is still similar enough that it can be compared to MLP (the box in Season 4 feels very much like a Mario story concept), and there are many times where the plot is MORE than just Peach getting kidnapped like Sunshine, Galaxy 1, or any of the RPG games. I feel the biggest hurdle is that the writers and artists at DHX as well as the toy designers and Hasbro execs may not care enough to get creative to come up with interesting ideas and interesting executions of them to make this work.

I guess for them, since the EQG world seems to only use technology as a minor characteristic of its setting. It kind of shows that EQG tries too hard to be normal and winds up being a less interesting version of our world. Oh and in case you think somehow robots would suddenly make their world not resemble ours, please understand that this exists. But you are right, if the series is moving away from exploring how the mane cast would live in a normal world to another superhero esque series. -

I don't necessarily mean that the series needs to have boring high school drama as a focus nor do I mean that the tie to Equestria should be gone completely due to how important of a role magic plays in this series, but I do think the series should start introducing conflicts and villains from its own world. We know so little about the EQG world that we don't know much about it besides the fact that it resembles ours and doesn't have magic (or at least not Equestrian magic), so there is so much potential to explore what that world has to offer. Robots, mutants, crazy lab experiments, aliens, and Pokémon-esque monsters could exist in their world. Relying on the tie to Equestria to provide any interesting conflict only serves to make the EQG world look so dull and prevents it from having more of its own identity.

Tried to do a realistic human world and made it boring in the process Characters are more subdued to make them more serious Anything that isn't subdued about a character is overly flanderized Cutscenes have awkward pacing, as if any snappy dialogue and more cuts would be less realistic or serious Forces a boring, human love interest onto the main character Introduces a rival to the main character which becomes the most memorable thing about it Forces us to care about a new location despite not giving us much of a reason to do so Despite it claiming to be separate from the original franchise it requires you to be knowledgeable about the world and characters to understand what is going on

spoiler What kind of content do we want for season 7?

Ehh I found it pretty darn boring, there is little character development outside of Twilight worrying about Midnight Sparkle, Flash getting over his relationship with Twilight, and the romance between Timber and Twilight. The fight scene with the vines is pretty cool, and I do like the scene where they fight the vines and take down Gloriosa, but it seems like the movie is doing everything it can to reach its running time.

Can EQG stand on its own legs without FiM magic in it?
Slashy replied to ManaMinori's topic in Equestria Girls
https://mlpforums.com/topic/151147-could-eqg-work-without-magic-being-the-source-of-the-conflict/ I even made my own thread about the issue, since I think it could totally work especially after It would likely require the series to resort to sci-fi and science fantasy for its supernatural villains, but other than that there really isn't a reason the series needs to keep its connection to Equestria as a major plot point at all other than the writers being uncreative or Hasbro insisting it on them. I even challenged myself to come up with a plot that would follow the typical Equestria Girls formula, but feature no magic in it. It can be done, it is a little difficult though. -
What do you think the Equestria Girls 5 plot will be?
Slashy replied to Unlikeable Pony's topic in Equestria Girls
I don't think the characters will graduate next film even though they should. I recall seeing several sources claiming that EQG was going to have 6 installments. I'd personally love if Hasbro was ballzy enough to have the characters graduate into college, even moreso if not the entire cast goes and graduates and we just follow part of the original cast into college.- 36 replies

There is no teen activity as the focus, so it will never be used as a plot, also it seems a little packed to be a plot for EQG. I will always want a villain that DOESN'T use magic (or at least not at first) or is something from their world. I really think it would be fun if Equestria Girls had sci-fi elements in it.- 36 replies
