  1. As part of G4, no. FiM is already being dubbed in Japanese on TV Tokyo/Cartoon Network Japan, and I'm sure that Hasbro doesn't see the need for an anime based on G4; they're already seeing good results with our current Flash-based show. Now, as part of a future MLP generation, sure. As long as the storyline is enticing and the characters are well-developed, I wouldn't have a problem with a future MLP anime.
  2. Personally, when I construct alternate universes or specific headcanons, I just take what's canonically available and add on from there. For example, we know that the following countries exist from what has been said in the show: - Equestria (duh!) - Maretonia - Crystal Empire (see below) - Saddle Arabia - Griffon Kingdom There are some other locales that could arguably be called countries, such as Mustangia (mentioned in Games Ponies Play) and Maretania (mentioned in Three's a Crowd; not to be confused with Maretonia). Personally, I like to think of the Crystal Empire as a separate principality, but with royal links to Equestria through the marriage of Shining Armor and Princess Cadance, made official upon Twilight's ascension to the throne. In the show, the Crystal Empire just seems to be an autonomous part of Equestria. I don't know, the political structure of the canon MLP world isn't particularly clear. I don't have a headcanon, but I do have an alternate universe where some different events happen, thus changing the political, economic, and social landscape of the entire world. In said universe, the following countries exist: - Principality of Equestria (Capital: Canterlot): Federal constitutional principality; after centuries of absolute rule by the princesses, a constitution was ratified after Twilight Sparkle's ascension, diffusing power to lower levels and providing for directly-elected constituent governments. Power is split between the crown government in Canterlot, which is unelected and has limited powers, 26 regional governments, and one federal district - Canterlot - that has few powers and is overseen by the crown government. Its population is much, much, much larger than in canon, with 107.1 million residents. Its highly advanced and diverse economy is centered around trade, agriculture, mining, magitek, manufacturing, media, tourism, medicine, biotechnology, and logistics. Aside from the griffon separatist movement in the far northeast (see below), there is an active buffalo nationalist movement in the central region of Durango; the tribes are asking for either autonomy or independence as the Buffalo Nation. Their requests have not yet been addressed by Canterlot or Dodge Junction (the regional capital). - Crystal Empire (Capital: Diamond City): Absolute unitary principality with monarchist ties to Equestria. Its history and location is much the same as it is in canon. The country has four provinces, but they have little power. It is currently in a land dispute with Arctica, as that country laid claim to what is now the Crystal Empire; the principality asserts that its existence predates Arctica, as it was a real country with the same boundaries until the Sombra incident lead to its disappearance. Has an estimated population of 3.5 million. Fairly developed economy, but it is mostly dependent on trade with Equestria and Ponyland. - Commonwealth of Arctica (Capital: Trottawa): A republic located north of Equestria. As its name implies, Arctica is known for its relatively cool climate and harsh winters, except in areas near the far western coast. Arctica broke off from Equestria as part of the fall of the feudal system a few centuries back. Disputes its eastern boundary with the Crystal Empire; the country asserts that the Crystal Empire did not reappear until centuries after Arctica became independent and laid claim to the territory, making the Crystal Empire's boundaries null and void. Its developed economy is centered around trade, agriculture, mining, tourism, medicine, biotechnology, and logistics. Has an estimated population of 20.6 million. - Republic of Ponyland (Capital: Hayport): A republic located northeast of Equestria; this country broke off from Equestria in the turmoil that came with the end of the feudal system. Ponyland was a poor agricultural backwater until the country diversified its economy, opened itself to trade, and industrialized; it is now one of the most developed countries in the world, with an economy focused around trade, agriculture, tourism, and medicine. Has a population of 22.1 million. There is an active griffon separatist movement in the far west (see below). - Republic of Prance (Capital: Mareseilles): A republic located on another continent. This developed country has a fairly diverse economy, but the economy is heavily dependent on agriculture, tourism, and magitek. Has a population of 29.8 million. - Kingdom of Neighpon (Capital: Yokiyo) (A play on the Japanese name for "Japan", 日本 [Nippon]): A unitary constitutional monarchy located on another continent. Neighpon is divided into 33 circuits and one capital district. Developed in the five decades prior to Twilight's ascension with a focus on technology and logistics. Has a population of 55.9 million. - Grand Duchy of Maretonia (Capital: Hamsterdam): A constitutional duchy located on the same continent as Prance. While not as developed as its neighbor, this tiny duchy has a stable economy based on exports. There are five provinces, but the government is fairly unitary in nature. Has a population of 5.7 million. - United Republic of Solaria (Capital: Republic City): Federal constitutional republic located south of Equestria, Solaria also broke away from Equestria after the feudal system broke down. Developed, but with an economy heavily dependent on mining, agriculture, and logistics. There are 22 states and one capital district. Has a population of 25.5 million. - Kingdom of Saddle Arabia (Capital: Maredina): Absolute monarchy; notorious for its hot summers and hot winters. It is one of the few countries (along with the Crystal Empire) to maintain royal families with absolute power. Its economy is heavily dependent on resource exploitation. The country has ten provinces and a population of 17.6 million. - Republic of Zebrica (Capital: Pundamilia): Constitutional republic; it is one of the few countries to maintain a zebra majority. The republic has fifteen states and a population of 33.2 million. Despite its location on a mostly poor continent, Zebrica has managed to develop in the last four decades, with its economy centered around logistics, trade, magitek, medicine, agriculture, and tourism. - Griffonia: Officially called itself the Griffon Kingdom. Former absolute monarchy. Griffonia had somewhat tense relations with its neighbors (Equestria and, after its independence, Arctica) until a civil war broke out over who was the rightful heir to the throne. The country disintegrated and was partitioned between Equestria, Arctica, and Ponyland. There is an active separatist movement in parts of Equestria and Ponyland, with a stated goal of resurrecting the "fallen" Griffon Kingdom. Reestablishment of Griffonia is a major political issue in Ponyland and is on the radar in Equestria. There are more, but I don't want this post to get too long. When I learn to roleplay or write fanfics, I may cook up something involving these countries; we'll see.
  3. Honestly, I think I'm a 5.5/10. I follow the show and the EQG movies, but I don't read the comics or chapter books. I don't buy merchandise. I create fanart and OCs, but I don't participate in roleplays or write fanfics (probably because I'm a bad writer). I don't go to conventions like Bronycon or Galacon. I'm not open about my love for the show, and it takes some effort to get me to open up about my status as a brony.
  4. If ponysonas are included, I have ten OCs (well, eight, two are under development). However, all of them are based in an alternate universe where certain MLP:FiM events didn't happen the same way they did in the show. None of them live in Ponyville, and none of them are friends with any of the Mane 6.
  5. I'm a bit rusty, but I did learn German in school. In addition, I hope to be fairly fluent in Japanese by 2020 or so; it's not written using the Latin alphabet, but a separate writing system, so it should be quite the difficult task.
  6. I use a vectoring program, namely Inkscape. There's also paper, pencil, and pen; those aren't for fan art, but for concepts instead.
  7. I only play one video game: Minecraft. I use the PC version for that, so PC i guess?
  8. I consider myself a weather geek, but mainly on the technical side. It shows in that if I had to choose a "best government agency" like I pick a "best pony", it would definitely be the National Weather Service, the website of which I visit no less than five times a day. I'm familiar with fronts, high/low pressure systems, storm structure, historic weather events (I know everyone remembers Hurricane Katrina, even if you weren't affected, but what about the great ice storm of January 1998 that absolutely crippled Quebec, eastern Ontario, and parts of the northern U.S.?), the difference between alert terminology [watch v. warning v. statement], weather radios, polygons, and mesocyclones. With regards to winter weather, I fully approve of snow, but I can live without the ice storms (We had one in February that was completely unrelated to the January 28 disaster).
  9. There's nothing inherently bad about cash cow franchises. What some critics fail to understand is that at the end of the day, cash cow franchises are just that, cash cow franchises; they exist for the purpose of making the parent company money. It's difficult to call a cash cow franchise "bad" without understanding that key component. While I'm not saying that there are no bad cash cow shows, money is the aspect that overrides all else. That being said, there is a legitimate criticism that mainly applies to shows such as MLP:FiM. When the show, despite being part of a cash cow franchise and serving as a glorified commercial turns out to be good in its own right, changes made to the storyline in order to sell more toys are more heavily scrutinized.
  10. I usually just roll with the Sweetie Belle dictionary definition: There has been an uptick in anime-like (animesque) shows lately, but I consider it difficult to actually consider them as such, not to mention the fact that there have been passionate debates and flame wars over whether shows like Avatar: the Last Airbender count as anime.
  11. Back in 2008, or when I was still a member of the Sonic the Hedgehog fandom, I signed up for this little site called the Sonic Fanon Wiki. Hopelessly naive, I did what any new user would do: start roleplays, create fan characters, fictional settings, and so on. It was great! Now that I look back on it, it was probably one of the dumbest things I did as a kid on the internet. Everything I wrote made no sense, even by fanon standards. I started many roleplays (most of them are now deleted), which became quite popular, but were pretty stupid and random. A few were based on this thing, an airport based in the metropolitan city of...Mobius Corners. Just for context: in the context of the Sonic universe, Mobius Corners is basically similar in style to Appleloosa, and I take it to the same height as New York City. Nothing really happened, it was a free for all by all accounts. You think that was bad? While there, I also created: A fictional country using the Gregorian calendar (1565 A.D.), not the comic calendar (3237), having a GDP that made no sense whatsoever, silly names for characters, an overpowered military, and development patterns styled after the United States. Green Hill Zone is not a stage to clear, but a county based in one of said country's provinces. Tails, three of my OCs, and Sonic ran a public television and radio network. Also, Tails ran a cable company. Various, yet stupid cities. A universe whereby Albion, a historic city-state in the Sonic comic books, is called "Echidna Country" and is a semi-autonomic region of said fictional country. Another RP centered around a middle school. That's right, the main cast and several OCs went to the same middle school. I used OC creators back then. Yeah... Want to see the nonsense for yourself? I created a whole friggin' category for it back in 2009 or so! The worst part is that I invested so much time and detail into crazy projects like those, and now that I look back, I can't help but laugh at how nonsensical I was back then.
  12. I accidentally called one of my friends (in the same class) "senpai" once in grade school...it was awkward.
  13. Do you have any catchphrases or phrases that you dislike or don't understand, be it from fiction or reality (it doesn't have to be from MLP or even fiction)? I have two from television series and movies, but this post does not imply that I dislike the particular work or its fans. "To infinity and beyond!" (Toy Story): Yes, I know that the following explanation will make me sound like a semi-bitter cynic, but whatever. Sure, the phrase sounds cool, but it never really made any logical sense. You can't go beyond infinity; it's impossible. In fact, Merriam-Webster defines infinity as "the quality of having no limits or end." Getting to infinity is tough enough, but going beyond? Impossible! Yes, I get the whole "with enough hard work, anything is possible" theme we hear nowadays, but there are some things (like dividing by zero, folding a piece of paper ten thousand times, and transcending infinity) that just can't be done. "Love and tolerate!" (MLP:FiM fanbase): Unlike the previous example, this catchphrase is not from a particular work, but the fanbase surrounding the work (this one!). While the phrase itself has good intentions, specifically dealing with internet trolls, there are certain people, actions, and events that cannot be "loved" or "tolerated", whether small or large in scope and impact. Also, most of the time, the same people who speak of love and toleration then turn around and act much like the ones they seek to "love" and "tolerate", making him or her look hypocritical (I wonder if that will happen in this thread...). Thus, the phrase's implementation is flawed from the beginning.Feel free to add your own thoughts or opinions below!
  14. Technically, an all-out attack on the U.S., even if it's from Equestria, would bring the rest of NATO into the conflict. Assuming the rest of NATO stays out of the conflict... I think that the alicorns would barely win the battle, but in the long run and if the alicorns take the wrong steps, the U.S. would win the war. Let's say the alicorns defeat the U.S. military and the U.S. surrenders in this hypothetical scenario. If Equestria opts to occupy the U.S., the Equestrians would immediately face the same problem that had a role in bogging the U.S. down in Iraq and Vietnam, that of a hostile and uncooperative population. Sure, the princesses are immensely powerful, but they can only cover so much ground, and the U.S. is a large, unfamiliar country. Any Royal Guard troops would be targeted by gun-toting guerrillas and criminals, especially in rural areas and parts of the inner cities. Even if they're faced with, say, unicorn troops with protective spells, the guerrillas would probably destroy infrastructure, including the interstates, Amtrak lines, and backroads, in order to hamper any Equestrian attempts to truly occupy the country. That also doesn't include the various National Guard units and police departments that would not comply with a foreign occupation. I can imagine that despite the fact that the U.S. would legally be under Equestrian military occupation, only D.C. and maybe parts of Virginia and Maryland would be occupied in practice, while the rest of the country would be governed by state officials as quasi-independent entities. Sure, there would be bronies around to run an occupied U.S., but could Equestria truly count on them to help run the country? If so, would Americans obey them, or would they see them as unpatriotic sellouts and target them in addition to Royal Guard troops? The logistical nightmares that would ensue from an occupation as well as the hostile population would probably ensure that Equestria would rescind their claim to the U.S. in short order. (Maybe I'm taking this question a bit too far.... )
  15. English is my first language, and I can speak a bit of German. Now, I'd like to learn Japanese, and I've even set a goal to learn the language by 2020.
  16. The show's been an advertisement since the beginning. That's the point of a merchandise driven show, to sell merchandise from the franchise. Everything, from Princess Cadence to Rainbow Power is there to sell toys.
  17. Atlantan here. Just thought I'd let you all know that the initial patient, Dr. Kent Brantly, arrived at Emory University Hospital just after 12:20 this afternoon. The good news: the patient walked into Emory University Hospital, no need for stretchers. We'll see how this plays out, but I am confident things will go well. Of course, I live about ten minutes from Emory, so on the off chance something does go wrong, well.... Otherwise, it's business as usual here. The only danger I've witnessed today came from crazy shoppers who are trying to take advantage of the last day of tax-free weekend.
  18. Snapchat. However, this is mainly because I've had to endure months of my friends shoving "Snapchat me this" or "dude, you should send me a Snapchat of that" into every other sentence or discussion.
  19. Actually, the current Ebola outbreak affects a few countries in west Africa, mainly Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea. With regards to whether the Ebola virus is "coming", between the WHO, national health departments, and the CDC, I wouldn't be too concerned. In the developed world, we have high-quality healthcare and various protocols to deal with this kind of outbreak.
  20. Humans. Normally, I'd italicize that and strike out to make a joke, but it's possible that they could exist in some other country. We've seen talking cows, buffalo, ponies, griffons, zebras, mules, donkeys....theoretically, any animal or creature could exist as a "race" inside or outside of Equestria; remember that there's so much of the world that the show or the expanded canon material hasn't touched on yet, so anything's possible!
  21. I use a merit-based "trustability system" to determine whether I should tell someone that I'm a brony. In general, if I've known a person for years, consider him/her a close friend, and (s)he has proven to be a trustworthy person, I'd almost certainly tell them. Certain groups of people, such as people I already know in real life to be bronies, my siblings, and the users of this site automatically skip the trustability review.
  22. I'm going to assume that turning into an alicorn also comes with inconceivable, near-limitless magical power. If the transformation occurred on Earth, then the first thing I'd do would be to create a clone of my (human) self to fool my family and friends, then use a cloaking spell to turn myself invisible so I could fly and explore the world. If the transformation occurred in Equestria, I'd first create a new island about the size of the state of Colorado, and fill it with large amounts of natural resources. Using my new island outpost, I'd begin trading with other countries and grow rich!
  23. Nine: five unicorns, two earth ponies, one pegasus, and one alicorn. However, in terms of the canon MLP:FiM universe, it's just one unicorn (my ponysona, as shown in my profile pic), as the other eight exist in a currently vaguely-defined alternate universe.
  24. I actually remember the exact date I became part of the herd, even if I didn't know it at that point: Tuesday, August 2, 2011. In the months before that date, I was lost. I loved the internet, but something was happening that I wasn't cool with: ponies. Specifically, tiny multicolored ponies. They were plastered all over the sites I usually frequent, and I wasn't very happy about it. Soon, the media was writing stories about the new craze that was My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, some positive, some negative. It was getting tougher and tougher to surf the internet without having to worry about MLP stuff popping up. Finally, I decided to sit down and watch the first episode to see what all of this ruckus was about. It was a sunny Tuesday afternoon when I pulled up a chair, grabbed my tablet, and proceeded to open the YouTube app to watch "Friendship is Magic: Part 1". The first episode was largely uninteresting, but I did notice the lack of in your face girliness that usually appears in shows like this. Up until the end of episode 1, however, I wasn't convinced that this show had many qualities that could earn my respect and continued viewership. Of course, the first episode was a two-parter, and the appearance of Nightmare Moon at the end of the first part convinced me to, at the very least, see the "Friendship is Magic" two-parter to its conclusion. Part 2 got me interested in the show. At this point, though, I wasn't hooked. It was after about a dozen or so episodes of season one that I grew to love the show. After I finished watching season one (it took three days or so), I discovered some aspects of the greater community: EQD, the various deviantART groups, and FIMFiction. As I waited for season 2 and began reading some good, high-quality fanfics, it struck me: I was now a brony! Of course, I couldn't tell anyone, so to this day, I don't tell people about my appreciation for the show and the greater community unless they like the show too. Also, I'm not too involved with the MLP community either; sure, I participate on this site, watch the show and the Equestria Girls movies, and make fanart & OC's (of course, they aren't online yet), but that's the extent of my participation in the community. Here's to many more seasons of FiM....and Derpy !
