Ghostbusters doesn't work because it's just ONE group of ordinary people that go out catch ghosts. Now we have this BS about an all-women Ghostbusters team and an all-men Ghostbusters team. It's just Ghostbusters!! There's no real variety in between the teams!

Aye, that is true. Unfortunately whatever sells will be put out by multiple companies. That is how business works.

A Transformers Cinematic Universe doesn't work because it's all about a war between the Autobots and Decepticons. You can make your Optimus movie and your Bumblebee movie, but you don't really need to. In the end your just fighting the same opponents! They don't have their own unique rogues gallery! Starscream, Skywarp and Thundercracker aren't any one Autobot's main opponents! Soundwave isn't the opponent of anyone autobot and Shockwave isn't!
