  1. Under no circumstances could I ever be paid enough to live in the Middle East. Quite aside from the fact that half the countries there are embroiled in some sort of violence, they are all intolerant, barbaric and despotic theocracies.
  2. Winter wrap-up, winter wrap-up!

    1. Kyoshi Frost Wolf

      Kyoshi Frost Wolf

*looks outside and sees a bunch of snow* Indiana says nope, not yet. :P

  3. Quake. Always Quake. Started with the first and never looked back.
  4. Agreed. Fortunately I was able to tell her to her face that I thought she was a great addition to the show at the last local con.
  5. No, Thanksgiving counts. And I agree, I think Americans definitely make that holiday their own like no other, even though we celebrate it in Canada, too (except in October).
  6. Okay, I have no idea how this thought came into my head, but it's been there for a while, and since this forum has a fairly large sampling from a number of countries around the world, I thought I would ask this of you all: Other than your country's national holiday, which holiday that your country celebrates widely best defines or is most emblematic of your country and why? It could be any holiday at all, whether religious or secular, whether celebrated in many places around the world or if it's really meaningful only to your country, but what holiday is most essentially unique or uniquely celebrated by your country? Why, yes, of course I'll go first. I'm Canadian, and I think the most uniquely Canadian holiday would be Victoria Day, celebrated on the Monday of or before May 24th. Originally, it was celebrated to commemorate the birthday of the British monarch that granted Canada its independence (after we asked politely). Since then, however, it is celebrated as a turning point in the year. It's seen as the unofficial start of Summer in Canada, a long weekend of first barbecues, first camping trips and other outdoor activities to mark the end of another seemingly endless and harsh Canadian winter. So, how about everyone else?
  7. I've been trying to learn Scots Gaelic. That's all kinds of fun. If by fun you mean a language with no specific words for "Yes" or "No" and every single verb has both a positive and negative form of its entire conjugation.
  8. Has the Star Trek fandom ever completely died out between series? Did Doctor Who fandom die out between 1989 and 2005? Has Firefly fandom ever really died out? After only one season? Hell, I'm still a fan of Battlestar Galactica. No, not that one. The one with Lorne Greene ! The fandom will never die out. Sure, there will be less obvious signs of it, There won't be as much fan art or videos or music as there is now. But those who loved it will likely still do so decades from now, and look on it fondly. And they will remember.
  9. Well, I don't know about some of the others, but for Pinkie Pie... EDIT: Hehe, this is what @WiiGuy2014 was talking about.
  10. Considering that in MLP she's a Ph.D., I think it's safe to say Equestria Girls' Maud is by now at least a university student. after all, Sci-Twi's Shining Armour had already graduated from Crystal Prep.
  11. Arguably, I'd say she has. Not for quite so dramatic a reason as originally suggested, but she definitely engaged in some deception (badly) in Spike at your Service when she pretended to be attacked by timberwolves in order to convince Spike his oath was fulfilled.
  12. Happy Hearth's Warming, everypony!

  13. Lauren Faust was the reason the show has lasted to seven seasons as it is, along with the writers she brought in (few of whom remain, sadly). The Brony fandom came about during her tenure and it was due to her work on the show.
  14. First of all, I don't think it was Hasbro that got hacked. DHX did. And being simply an animation studio who probably never had to deal with anything like this ever before they probably just weren't prepared for this kind of breech. As for Hasbro, while it's annoying to them, perhaps, they probably aren't too worried. In the end, it's publicity for their product and generates interest, even if the message wasn't as controlled as they would have liked.
  15. Just a reminder to all you pony artists at this time of year: Mistletoe has OVAL leaves and WHITE berries.

  16. I was working at a casino at the time, so I'm not sure if "met" is the right word, but I will always think about how cool it was to talk about Lenny Kravitz' new (at the time) version of the song American Woman with Burton Cummings, who sang the original with the Guess Who.
  17. Nothing in the movie really made me feel uncomfortable. I mean, horrible things happened to every pony in both the Changelings' takeover and Tirek's rampage across the world. What surprised me, however, was the undeniable depiction of physical violence perpetrated by Tempest Storm, the likes of which I don't think we've seen in the show before.
  18. I agree, Trixie did not deserve the treatment she received, even if she was an insufferable, arrogant egotist. But what did she do? Seek restitution through the courts against Snips and Snails (or their parents) for waking an Ursa Minor that subsequently destroyed her trailer? No! She went out and found a dark magic amulet, the very possession of which should have been illegal and landed both Trixie and the unscrupulous dealer in Tartarus, and then used it to enslave a town, whether that was her intention from the outset or not. There was definitely an issue of a disproportionate level of response here.
  19. Two reasons: 1. The decision to include Starlight Glimmer as a recurring character in the series was only made as they started scripting season 6. By then the movie's voicing had been recorded and so the script was pretty much set. 2. According to at least one writer, Starlight Glimmer wasn't supposed to be a recurring character in the series in the first place. It was supposed to be Sunset Shimmer. The third Equestria Girls movie was originally slated to be the last, at which point Sunset was to return to Equestria, but the powers that be at Hasbro decided Equestria Girls as a spinoff was doing well enough that they did a fourth movie and are now doing a series.
  20. Keep in mind, the fans who might not like Starlight's inclusion because she hasn't faced justice are often the same ones that would argue against the same justice being applied to Trixie just because they like her. And Trixie was a lot more malicious in some instances. My take away from all this is that despite the existence of a magical super-max prison like Tartarus, Equestrian Justice is really, really weak.
  21. It was, perhaps, not cinema at its finest (and would have been up against Pixar's Coco) but it should have been sent for consideration anyway. Sia might have liked a best song nod.

A system like this would be even more open to abuse by staff.
  23. I just realized something. They named the movie baddie Tempest Shadow. Another word for Tempest is Storm.

Friendship is half the battle. Yo, Joe!

    1. Ivan The Adorable

      Ivan The Adorable

I keep missing these extremely obvious name meanings.

Like, it took me till Season 5 to realize that Trixie is name Trixie because she was supposed to be "Tricksy"

    2. Castle Bleck

      Castle Bleck

And S7's villain was The Pony Of Shadows.

Yes, and sarcasm totally assuages my concerns.

Unforunately, this sounds like another opportunity for cronyism to me.
