  1. It's funny you say that, as that's actually the main reason I prefer Starlight's reformation overall. Starlight's struggled with herself, even into season 7. She's had doubts, fallen back into old habits, distrusted herself...Meanwhile, Sunset feels so..."Perfect" in comparison. She struggled with being forgiven by others sure, but it never felt like she struggled with being a good person now. Starlight feels like someone bad trying to be good now, Sunset doesn't. Not that I don't like Sunset, I like them both. But I think Starlight was easily the better done reformation.
  2. That "Simple lecture" by Twilight only happened once, and it also involved seeing her actions causing the apocalypse for starters. Anyway, if you can avoid violence, why wouldn't you? If you can talk someone down and make them your friend rather than your foe, I see that as the ultimate form of "Victory", far better than to just beat someone up and toss them in a cell and call it a day. I think everyone and anyone can change...It's just a matter if they WANT to or not, and some people won't want to. You should definitely be careful about who you trust, but I think it's good to see the show go for more methods of forgiveness and redemption, rather than just beating up all the baddies. It fits for the show that's literally named "Friendship is Magic". It's not like all the villains have been redeemed either, Tirek, Chrysalis, the Sirens...They didn't change. The real world could use some more forgiveness I feel.
  3. Why was he going to such rude lengths? Why was Big Mac going to such rude lengths? Both of them wanted to impress Sugar Belle, and they both went totally overboard doing so, making her uncomfortable in the end. Featherbangs methods just happened to be flashier and more extreme than Big Mac. He wasn't anymore of a jerk to her than Mac was, just kind of a jerk to Mac, stepping all over him to get her attention. As for why he has a problem talking to mares, it makes perfect sense. He's good at getting their attention, with his appearance and singing and flashy showing off, but after that? If you want to date you have to get to know someone, have conversations, learn about each other. Feather Bangs could get their attention but couldn't keep it because he wasn't sure how to do all that stuff after the initial "Wooing".
  4. I've always wanted to make an Alicorn OC who's not particularly amazing. Like they were born out of some freak genetic mutation, they have wings and a horn but they aren't super great at magic or flying, just kinda decent at both. They hate it when ponies have huge expectations for them and act like they're some kind of God. Dunno, just an idea I had. Probably never going to get around to doing it. I don't hate Alicorn OC's though, I just think most of the ones I've seen were kinda boring.
  5. RD controlling the weather isn't that big a deal, plenty of other Pegasi can do that. She's good at it but she's just one mare. Pretty sure she doesn't even do that anymore either, she's a Wonderbolt now, so why do her old job as a weather pony still? Unless they really need her help I suppose. Rarity also now runs three boutiques across Equestria, and Fluttershy is now running an animal shelter that all animals are welcome to. Does it really matter though? Their importance to Equestria in universe doesn't impact their importance to the series in real life. They all have their own interests and goals, and not all of them are equally big, that's fine, that doesn't lessen their importance.
  6. For the first one, she ran into the caves, where Party Favor said "They would never find her!". Luna was banished for 1000 years out of necessity, as was Discord being turned to stone. Luna immediately tried to take over again upon return and wasn't punished for that. Starlight's "Punishment" was to become Twilight's student and learn about friendship, Twilight likely hoping doing so would teach her how to be a better pony and keep her from returning to her old ways, which it has for the most part, though she's struggled a bit. If she's learning her lesson as-is and making up for her mistakes I don't see the need for anything else. I agree her apology to the enslaved village was dealt with too fast though. Should have been an episode on it's own.
  7. They might not, depends. Lot's of Ponies in this show don't get punished for things. Twilight didn't really get punished for Lesson Zero, Rainbow Dash didn't get punished for Tanks for the Memories, Discord has never really gotten punished for any of the stuff he's done since he was reformed, Trixie wasn't even punished for the events of Magic Duel, etc. People make such a fuss about Starlight not getting punished, but she's not the only one.
  8. The two examples given are acceptable due to the fact she's the main character and our real eyes in the world. Couplednwirh the fact she and her friends are the avatars for the elements of friendship, this seems reasonable. If the world's problems could be solved by everybody and not just the name six, we would have no reason for the elements xD Starlight and the other's victory made sense though, it shows us in the episode how they do it. Starlight's a capable leader, Trixie's illusions turn out to be useful for more than just her stage show, Discord is distracting with or without magic, and Thorax's ability to shapeshift and navigate through the hive. All of these things come in handy, take even one of them off the team and I doubt they would have made it. Obviously the big threats can't just be solved by everypony, but on the other side if we make it so the world's threats can ONLY be solved by the Mane Six...that's a little boring and predictable. What? No, I couldn't disagree more with you here. The majority opinion is not "Right", just because it's a majority. An opinion can't be right or wrong, unless said opinion is something going against concrete fact, and fact isn't decided by how many people believe something. I'll argue with you all day on why Starlight is not a Mary Sue, but you aren't wrong for disliking her. If someone tries to tell you there's something wrong with you because you disagree with them on a cartoon, ignore them.
  9. I wouldn't say her flaws are "Convenient", they pop up in basically every episode she's in. Her abuse of magic shows up in "No Second Prances" when she forces Big Mac to talk, is one of the main focuses of "Every little thing she does" where she tries to use magic to mind control her friends just to do simple Friendship problems. Which also shows her manipulating others without even realizing the consequences until Twilight and Spike point them out to her, and her self-doubt in that she doesn't even think she can spend time with friends properly without them thinking she's "Bad at it". "To Where and Back again" kind of touches on her self-doubt too, she doesn't even think she can help set up a festival, fearing she'll take control and hurt ponies again. Season 10 has more self-doubt in her feeling she's not ready to leave Twilight yet, and her nightmare about the Evil Princesses that she feels might happen because of her mistakes. Plus, "All Bottled Up" shows her suppressing some pretty clear anger issues that she's not effectively communicating, and again using her magic to solve a problem that she could just talk out with Trixie. She's been working through her issues a bit more each episode she's in. Her biggest enemy is herself, her self-doubt and her tendency to fall back on her old ways. As for her various victories and accomplishments, I don't think any of them are too bad. The first two, her village and her Time-Travel plan were both done when she was a villain, and both times she ended up ultimately "Losing" to Twilight and friends. Well, the second time she stood down. Both plans fit with her talents, she is clearly shown to be both a good leader and good at magic when not doubting herself. As for "To Where and Back again". How's it any different than say, Twilight and her friends going on a dangerous adventure to stop Nightmare Moon or Discord? Starlight uses her wits and leadership skills to help her and the others get through the Changeling Hive, but she never would have made it to the end without the others helping her on her way. She didn't do everything herself, Discord still distracted the guards, Trixie and Thorax lured Changeling's away with their Showtricks and Shapeshifting, etc. Starlight wouldn't have made it to the end on her own, and even at the end she fails to reform Chrysalis, doesn't she? Chrissy smacks that hoof of Friendship away and spits in her face.
  10. Can't comment on your thoughts for the EQG special, sorry. Only read a bit of that but I'd rather not get spoiled. As for the rest of your argument...Sorry, I can't see how Starlight could possibly be a Mary Sue. Yes, she's powerful. Yes, she's talented. She's also one of the most flawed characters in the show. Even after her reformation she struggles with herself regularly, she constantly slips into her old habits of abusing her magic and manipulating others around her, she's impulsive and doesn't fully think through the consequences of her actions, she's had issues controlling her anger, etc. She didn't learn how to fix these things quickly either, she's still struggling with them this season too as Episode 10 "A Royal Problem" shows, and while that episode ended well and her impulsive decision turned out to be the right one, it was still an impulsive decision that could have gone awfully wrong. She later in the episode has an awful nightmare about it too, literally beginning to believe she's going to cause the sisters to turn into their Nightmare selves. She's her own harshest critic. Starlight's got a lot of good things going for her, but she's got too many flaws and imperfections for me to consider her a Mary Sue. It's those very flaws that have made me adore her.
  11. I can't drive and have absolutely no desire to. All it'd take is a single little mistake or slip-up and it could cost me my life, or the life of someone else. Those things are death traps and I'd never want to be put in control of one.
  12. I meant the ending where Discord got sick from the Tatzlwurm on my first point.
  13. Well, compared to us they'd seem like Gods. Incredibly long life-spans/Immortality combined with magical power capable of moving Celestial bodies like the Sun and Moon, or even warping reality? No wonder that'd give the impression of a God. But compared to the world around them, they've each been shown to be just as vulnerable as anypony else. Getting captured, harmed, sick, drained of magic, etc. The long life-span isn't too impressive, dragons have that too, and if they are immortal...So what? Plenty of things are immortal in fiction, not necessarily all of them are God's. They can move the Sun and Moon all on their own, but a team of Unicorns also can do that. Them doing it all on their own is the impressive part, but them being able to do it in the first place isn't unique to them. They've never even been called God's either. Discord is typically described as a "Spirit". If they are "Gods" then the MLP version of that idea isn't particularly impressive.
  14. Overbearing parents? Maybe, or no parents, so nopony to comfort her and help her make new friends after Sunburst left, or neglectful parents who just don't care. They might be similar to God's yeah. They've just never been shown to be such, even way back since Season 2 with Chrysalis beating Celestia.
  15. Honestly? I don't see the big deal here. The Alicorns clearly aren't gods, maybe immortal, maybe very long-lived but no God's. I don't think Starlight changing their marks is any more impressive than her switching or changing the marks of anypony else. Honestly, nopony in MLP seems to be a true "God". Even Discord still got sick, held still and beaten by Tirek, and had his magic taken away by Chrysalis's throne. I think it's the fans who keep trying to insist these very powerful characters must be gods, rather than just...really powerful characters. The Princesses are probably just as vulnerable as anypony else when caught off-guard, I don't think they have any special protection to things like this. They might be better at avoiding it when on-guard and using a shield or something, but not normally. Yes, they can move the sun and moon, but a bunch of unicorns could do that before them. Also, pretty sure Glimmer would still get stomped by full power Tirek. Unless she went back in time and prevented him! But that's a dangerous idea.
  16. I had Pizza for breakfast and am now having Bacon and Eggs for dinner. Breaking all the rules.

  17. For the second day in a row now my laptop just randomly froze and crashed for seemingly no reason. I'm really concerned now.

  18. My laptop just froze and crashed on me!

  19. Because I have zero interest in a relationship. Don't see the point in it, what do I have to gain? Doubt I have much to offer to a relationship either. Especially since I already have a best friend who's probably better than any Girlfriend could be.
  20. 415759 I loved both Jak and Ratchet as a kid, the Sly Cooper games too. I've still got my old PS2 and a Super Nintendo as well. I've heard a little bit about Hollow Knight, but haven't looked into it much yet. Guess I should get on that.
  21. 415757 Lot's of nostalgic games recently, PS2/Gamecube stuff. Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, old Sonic games, etc. Some indie games I never got around to trying out like Shovel Knight and Freedom Planet, which were both pretty cool. A run of Isaac every now and then too, of course.
  22. 415754 What games have you been playing recently? Also, thanks. No meds for me so far, but I'm going to doctor visits and all that. Greetings and Salutations Filly. Indeed, it seems my name does have a double meaning in this case.
  23. 415749 Watching Ponies, playing video games, dealing with awful chronic health issues...Not much really. How about you, Retro?
