What episodes are you worried about?
BastementSparkle replied to CastletonSnob's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
I'm not worried about any episodes, I'm looking forward to all of them. I feel like worrying about an episode or something and going in expecting to dislike it, more than anything will just contribute to disliking it. As if you'll have spent all this time building up negativity in your head and you'll go in actively looking for reasons to dislike the episode and not really giving it a chance like it deserves. Overhyping an episode and expecting the best thing ever also seems to do the same thing. It's like, if you've built up a dislike towards the episode already, and it doesn't do absolutely everything in it's power to disprove you, even if it's an episode you might have otherwise enjoyed to an extent, you end up hating it more than you would have without those expectations. Same thing with overhype, if it's disappointing when compared to what you had in mind, even if still good, you end up hating it more for not being "Good enough". Obviously doesn't happen every time, and there's usually at least some valid reasoning to dislike an episode of course, but expectations do have a legitimate effect on how you view the finished product, no matter how unfair that is. -
Is Canada going a little overboard?
BastementSparkle replied to Jon the VGNerd's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Welp, they're apparently keeping this up for the next few weeks at least and possibly the whole season. At this point I'm not sure I want them to stop now, since then I'd have to wait extra long to see the next episode, since I've watched the early ones to avoid spoilers. It'd have been better for them not to do this in the first place but the ball is rolling now. -

I am not liking the whole early Canada release
BastementSparkle replied to gyashaa's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Last season I got spoiled by people who watched the early releases and didn't see the need to put spoiler tags on their stuff. So, yeah, I don't want that happening again personally. So, I'll watch the early episodes just to avoid that. Also, yes. I lack self control. All those sweets I eat are clear proof of this. -

Flurry Heart isn’t a full-born alicorn?
BastementSparkle replied to ManaMinori's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
I sorta don't think she's that powerful honestly, likely not anymore powerful than the other Alicorns, more just totally out of control. We saw this with Pound and Pumpkin Cake before, where they were great at flying and magic despite being so young. Seems like ponies have a lack of control and bursts of power and ability when they're babies, which they then lose as they grow and they have to relearn things. Flurry just seems extra extreme since she was born an Alicorn. -
Has your enthusiasm for the show waned?
BastementSparkle replied to ManaMinori's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Not for me, been in love with it since Season 1, and still in love with it now, more so than ever honestly. The last 3 seasons were my favorites so far and it seems like 7 is continuing the trend still. This shows done nothing but improve over time. I feel like a kid on Christmas for a little bit every single time we get a new episode. -
Should FiM continue as a series?
BastementSparkle replied to ManaMinori's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
I don't even really see why they'd need a spin-off for that. If they wanted to just switch the focus to new characters they could do that with the already existing show. Not that I'd want them to necessarily. Rather than taking the focus off the mane 6 entirely I'd rather they just focus on new characters too, but keep the Mane six around as well, I don't think it's impossible to find new ways to develop them, or interesting ways to incorporate them into episodes even when they're not the focus. -

BastementSparkle replied to CastletonSnob's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
When did I pass judgement on anyone? I said what I felt about the episode, which is that I'm excited for it, and that I don't particularly care how other people react to Starlight being there as long as I enjoy the episode. You want me to understand the reasons? "She's too OP, too similar to Twilight/Sunset, her redemption was too fast, in too many episodes, she abuses her magic too fast, takes away the spotlight from other characters, her backstory sucks." I've heard every reason, and with a lot of them I don't agree. These complaints aren't necessarily wrong and the people who bring them up have some good points, but I like Starlight. I feel like I've been given more than enough reason to not just like her, but adore her. Also, she hasn't been in that many episodes. She was literally in just 8 episodes in Season 6, and one of those "The Times are a Changeling" she barely did anything at all, except get a few lines and look sympathetic to Thorax. If anything I feel she should have been in that season more. So far she's been in only 3 of 4 episodes, and while this says she's in episode 10, we have no idea if she'll be in any of the episodes from now to then. Maybe she could be easily replaced by somepony else, or maybe not, we don't know yet. Maybe there's a very good reason Starlight was picked. So, I understand why people who don't like Starlight don't like her perfectly fine, but I do like her. You can complain about her all you want, you're entitled to your opinion and you're allowed to voice it, but so am I, and I'm happy to see Current Best Pony in another new episode. -

Is said alien species intelligent enough to consent, and of proper sexual age, and all participants are of course willing? Then it's allowed. I don't care if said alien looks like a human with green skin, or if they look like a magical cartoon horse, there's no reason for me to outlaw it. The important aspect is the mind, the physical body and appearance don't matter nearly as much, even if I found the concept of relationships with a certain species gross, personal feelings do not give me the right to dictate others lives in that manner.

Are people losing interest in the Mane 6?
BastementSparkle replied to Sly's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
No, some people might be losing interest in the mane six, but I don't think everyone is. Some of them are probably just gaining an interest in the newer characters as well. I enjoyed "To Where and Back again" for a lot of reasons, yes not showing how the M6 and the others were kidnapped was maybe a bit of a problem, but it's not an episode ruining one for me as that two-parter has so many good parts otherwise. Same with Rock Solid Friendship, Pinkie was a little overly-loud and obnoxious for my liking, but that's not totally out of character as she get's like that sometimes, and otherwise I enjoyed the episode a ton for other reasons. It's not like the writers messing up with a bit of something in episodes is a totally new thing. For me though...I just really like Starlight, and Trixie, and Maud, and Discord, etc. I love the Mane six too, they're still my top favorite characters in the show and some of my favorite fictional characters ever. But we've had 6 seasons with them so far, not that there's not more to do with them, but it's good to see some other characters getting to share the spotlight too now. -
S07:E05 - Fluttershy Leans In
BastementSparkle replied to Dark Qiviut's topic in Season 7 Discussion
When Fluttershy mentioned she was going to get a friend in to help with the sanctuary, I totally thought it would be Discord. Like he'd just show up and snap the sanctuary into existence for her. That's what I'd do if I had a nearly God-like Chaos spirit for a friend anyway. Wasn't expecting one of the McColts, that's literally one of the last characters I'd have ever expected to return. Liking the continuity this season. This one didn't have much of a real "Story" to it, it was kind of thin, but man did it show off Fluttershy's development well. She was assertive and firm with what she wanted the whole episode, even though the experts didn't listen to her. It seems all those confidence lessons have really, truly sunken in now. This is one of those episodes that made me feel a strangely real sense of pride for Shy. I liked it.- 169 replies

Are the writers pushing Starlight too hard?
BastementSparkle replied to ManaMinori's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
No, not really. Outside of the two-parters she was barely even present in Season 6, she was in like...What, 4 episodes? The rest of it she was completely absent. We've had 4 episodes this season and so far she's been in three of them. Good, maybe they're going to incorporate her more naturally throughout the rest of the season instead of her only showing up every once and a while. I could understand this complaint if she had consistently been shoved into Season 6 in every episode, but she really wasn't. There have been plenty of episodes without her still, episode 3 already didn't have her in it as it is, and I imagine there'll be plenty more episodes in the future without her. -
S07:E04 - Rock Solid Friendship
BastementSparkle replied to Ashen Pathfinder's topic in Season 7 Discussion
Pinkie was a bit annoying this episode, I get that was kind of the point, that she was being overbearing and not letting Maud makes friends her own way, but I think it got a little overboard. But, she was called out on it and did learn her lesson at the end, so it's not an unforgivable problem in my eyes. The Maud/Starlight stuff was just great though, that's not a pair I ever expected but they actually work pretty well together. Starlight's love of kites was...new, I like it. Good to learn a bit more about her, and see some extra depth to Maud as well. Also, Rarity crying over those Jewels being common made me laugh, Jewels seem to be incredibly common in Equestria already, they're all over the place, yet ponies still sometimes act like they're rare.- 202 replies

Plenty of background Ponies have similar mane styles. Heck, Twilight's Canterlot friend group is basically made up of recolors with the same mane styles. Lyra and Minuette, Lemon Hearts and Twinkle Shine, and of course Twilight and Moondancer, though obviously that last one has a different mane now.

What if MLP ended on a Tragic note?
BastementSparkle replied to Twilight Frost's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
No, I highly doubt Hasbro would ever do this, and I wouldn't want them to either. This show is a great escape from reality at times, it makes me feel happy even when I feel really down. It's the ONLY show that does that for me, and while I wouldn't mind an episode or two that's sad, ending the finale on a tragic note? Last thing I'd want to see. -
The third gameplay style has been stated to be "Sonic-Like" by Izuka as well. So, that makes me imagine it'll also be rather fast-paced. https://twitter.com/BlueParax/status/856267256233381888 You can see plenty of places where the Classic level there splits off into upper and lower paths. It's not quite as explorative as something like CD or 3&K, but it's not fully linear either. We've only seen 40 seconds of Modern gameplay too, and in both cases we're likely seeing either the first levels, or very early levels of both gameplay styles. It's too early too tell really, might be kind of linear, might not. I actually rather like the Red Rings. When I was trying to grab them all in Generations they forced me to look all around the stages and take different routes than I usually would, making me explore the stages more. They encourage exploration and I think that's a good thing. As for them not giving worthwhile rewards, in Colors they unlocked those optional game-land levels, which if you managed to beat all those you'd unlock Super Sonic. Now, I'm not the biggest fan of Colors, but plenty of people really love that game, I've seen it top more than a few top ten lists, and a bunch of extra levels and the ability to play as Super Sonic sound like some pretty good rewards to me. They also unlocked new skills for the Sonic's in Generations, along with the art and music like you said. The emblems aren't really much better though, for the most part they just unlock new items for the black market in the Chao Garden's. That's great if you like chao and I certainly do, but if you aren't interested in them? Not much for you. In the Gamecube port of Adventure 1 they'd also net you a bunch of Game Gear games, but that's only one port and otherwise you just get Metal Sonic once you've got all 130 and he's just a Sonic skin basically. In SA2 you can get the 3D Green Hill Zone with all 180, but before that not much, except different cart skins for getting the all A-Rank emblems. Besides, not giving good rewards wouldn't be a fault of the Red rings themselves anyway, since any collectible could theoretically suffer from that, and it could be fixed just by making better rewards for getting them. It'll still likely happen though, since Sega is a corporation and thusly will try anything to make a quick buck with as little resources/ effort as possible -.- The Super Emeralds has a way better chance of happening imo. I can see them incorporating some kind of unique bonus stage similar to CD too. Yeah, the Chao garden is mostly wishful thinking at this point. Wishes are Eternal though...I'll hold out hope until I have the game in my hands and see for a fact they aren't there. Christian Whitehead and his team obviously know the classics, so I wouldn't put it past them to bring the Super Emeralds back. But last I heard Sega had decided that the Super Emeralds were now "Non-Canon", so that makes me wonder if they'd even let him bring them back or not. I hope so, I kind of loved just wrecking the entire game with Hyper Sonic in 3&K after finally getting all those Emeralds.

Well, I don't know what's proved Sonic Team as incompetent lately. I have my issues with them, but Colors and Generations were both received pretty well, and I really enjoyed Generations. Lost World might be considered a misstep, I haven't even played it yet so I can't comment on it, but from what I've seen nothing seems blatantly incompetent or broken with that game. As for Sonic not spindashing...Well, he already barely does that anymore anyway. Which is a bit sad, so maybe they could find a way to work the Spindash in with the boost in some manner...Or Sonic could play with both play styles, which is also kind of weird but might work. It'd take some work to get both styles of gameplay working together for sure, but I don't think it's impossible. Well, I assume the tight platforming controls and momentum would come with the 3rd character if they really did adopt an Adventure-like gameplay style and Sonic Team put effort into it. Of course, if it's not that it's a moot point. Red Rings can act as a sort of Emblem substitute, as they're what's been used to unlock new things in more recent Sonic games. Though obviously they're a different kind of system, since you find them in levels instead of earning them for completing missions and such. As for the Chao Garden, who says it's not in Forces? Nobody's deconfirmed it, and for all we know it's going to have one and they're just keeping it secret as a nice surprise. Probably a long shot there that won't come true, but who knows? Maybe they'll also bring back the Super Emeralds in Mania.
-
Not necessarily. There are some things about Forces that Adventure fans certainly might like. The game has taken on a darker tone than the last few Sonic games, with the return of a main Vocal theme as well, and while those two things aren't Adventure specific, they are things that have fallen in prominence more and more as we've gone further into the modern era. With Colors-Lost World having the very comedic light-hearted tone, and no vocal theme since Colors. Izuka apparently even confirmed in a Famitsu interview that the tone and story for Forces were "Adventure" inspired. There's also that mysterious third playstyle that we know nothing about, and while it's not confirmed, it could be a playstyle based off of the Adventure era games, which I'm sure many Adventure fans would be happy about. I think 3 separate series is a bit much, and might cause some problems. How would they do that? Have Sonic team work on both the Boost and Adventure games? Make a new team for the new Adventure series? I think it'd be smarter instead to only split the series into two. One 2D and based off the Genesis games, and one 3D that combines the Boost/Adventure games together. Multiple play-styles was one of the defining things about the Adventure games after all, so they could have levels that play like the Boost games of today, and levels that play more like Sonic and Shadow's stages from the Adventure games. Throw in a few extra playable characters for both styles, go for more balanced stories with light and dark elements, put in some Chao garden's, and there you go. Well, at least, that's how I'd do it.

Honestly, I wonder if Sonic's really ever been "Broken" as much as people like to think he is, because to me the most broken thing about the Sonic series is his fanbase. Now, I don't mean that as an insult to the fans, but just look above at the answers you have in this thread for an example? "Continue with the Boost forumula", "Go back to 2D!", "Be more like the Adventure games!", etc...Everybody's got their own idea on what would fix Sonic, or if he even needs fixing at all. The series has changed so much over the years and done so many things, in terms of gameplay, story, characters, tone, music...People have grown up with or just fallen in love with so many different things, you're never gonna get them all to agree. Now, how would you fix something like that? Try to pick something and be consistent, probably leaving quite a few fans behind? Or maybe, trying to please everyone, as Mania/Forces seem to be an attempt to do? That might work if done well, or people might just get annoyed at having to share the thing they want in a Sonic game with other things they don't. Honestly, outside of a few games like 06 or Rise of Lyric, I don't think there's really been that many truly "Terrible" Sonic games, mostly good games that have a few flaws, and are usually in radically different styles which of course leads to controversy. Even those two games I just listed as terrible have their own fans though, so...yeah. Sonic's Fanbase is what's really broken, they're a broken bunch glued together by a blue hedgehog and not much else.

None, I enjoy a few other shows, but none of them nearly as much as MLP. With most of them my interest comes and goes, while MLP I've had on the brain since I found it, and haven't lost interest at all.
