movies/tv Powerpuff Reboot Is Actually Pretty Great
BastementSparkle replied to a topic in Media Discussion
Well, I think that depends on the criticism. If Old PPG and new PPG both do something similar, but in different ways, and the old fans watch it and go "The old show never did this! Stupid!" even though it did, they're clearly being biased. If their thoughts are simply "I preferred the way the older one did this" there's more room for legit criticism. They could have a real reason for disliking the way something was handled in the new show. The important thing is accepting that their opinions aren't fact, and that other people can think differently. It's fine to prefer the old show, and fine to prefer the new one, it's fine to like both, or dislike both. Saying, "The old show was better and anyone who doesn't agree is wrong!" is what I'd have a problem with. Also, if the reboot does something very different from the original, then it wouldn't come as much of a surprise to me if some fans didn't like it. Two drastically different shows from the same franchise just won't always appeal to the same people, and that might just be their taste, and that's fine too. If they like the original show for certain reasons, there might be new reasons to like the new one, and maybe those reasons just don't appeal to them. -
movies/tv Powerpuff Reboot Is Actually Pretty Great
BastementSparkle replied to a topic in Media Discussion
Oh no, I get what you mean. People not even giving the reboot a chance and looking for reasons to dislike it because "It's not like the old one!" is silly. It's good to give new things a chance and judge them for their own merits. And I won't deny that nostalgia can play a part in people's reasoning, it even does in my own at times. That said, Nostalgia Goggles is something people tend to throw out a bit too much. It's something I see used practically anytime someone prefers the older versions of something, unless the new version is something that is considered really awful. People have preferences, some people are simply going to prefer the content of something older, for nostalgic reasons or not. I'm sure some people dislike the new one because "Nostalgia goggles", there are even a few examples of that in effect here, true. I just was poking a bit of fun at the idea, since I'm used to people calling out Nostalgia Goggles for any older preference, no matter the reason. -
movies/tv Powerpuff Reboot Is Actually Pretty Great
BastementSparkle replied to a topic in Media Discussion
Haven't seen a full episode yet, but from the clips I've seen...Eh, it doesn't look all that interesting to me. Obviously I can't judge the whole show by a few clips, and I plan to give it a real shot later, but there's nothing that's looked good enough to me to make it a high priority. Which is strange, because I loved the original PPG, I have the whole series on DVD, it's great. Even the later seasons which most people don't consider as good I still love. That said, I really hope I like it. Because if I don't, then people are gonna start mailing me those stupid Nostalgia goggles again, because it's impossible to like something older more without them. -
390350 There's also been an Alicorn in the background before. And the comics before Amending Fences had Moondancer as a Fluttershy clone. Before season 5, background ponies sure were inconsistent.

390348 Background ponies are weird, I wonder how that works? Is it changeling's? Did they find the mirror pool? Time Travel? Ponies have a lot of Identical children? That last one might explain Bon Bon's various voices...

390336 Well, we know for a fact this "Break" is only a week long, since the new episode is next week, and that's what I was speaking of. I don't know if there's going to be another break or not, but I hope there isn't, it's annoying when there is. That said, even if it was, I wouldn't find it as awful since the between season hiatus wasn't nearly as long this time, unlike the last one which was nearly a year.

390326 Least it's only one week this time, unlike last season with that big mid-season hiatus.

We've had ponies other than the Mane six save the day a few times now. Spike did in the Crystal Empire, Shining and Cadance did at the Royal Wedding, the Townsponies did in the Cutie Map, Sunburst mostly did in the newest premiere. But other than that, the more recent finale's, like Twilight's Kingdom and The Cutie Re-Mark have been very Twilight-focused, and though I do love them, I'd like to see the mane six save the day all-together again in the movie. Maybe finally bringing back Rainbow Power, I honestly love those ridiculous cheesy designs, though I'd want an actual full-on battle this time with those forms. Though, actually, I wouldn't mind it if the other Mane 5 saved the day without Twilight's help for once, or maybe the CMC, that'd be an interesting ending.

Surie Polomare is a true sociopath
BastementSparkle replied to TheMarkz0ne's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
I don't think that's enough evidence she's a Sociopath. I mean, Discord and Starlight, Trixie and Gilda, Sunset and Diamond, all of them were pretty horrible at one point. Before they were either reformed by Friendship or Friendship laser beams anyway. She's only been in one episode, and she didn't do anything completely irredeemable there, though she was certainly cruel. That said, she doesn't need a reformation. I personally like a lot of the show's reformations, but not every single villain or antagonist needs one. -

Fallout Equestria: Classic or Overrated?
BastementSparkle replied to TerminalObsession's topic in Sugarcube Corner
I do think the first chapters are a bit rough in comparison to later ones, but if you were enjoying the earlier parts of the story before she got out into the Wasteland, I think there's probably a good chance you'll enjoy at least some of the later stuff. Like I said, I think it get's progressively better as it goes. Don't force yourself to read it if you don't want to, but I'd say it might be good to try out a couple more chapters, see if there's anything there you like. It's never going to be the most "Realistic" of fics, especially with some of the ways it sticks to following the rules of the Fallout games, but the characters and the story get fleshed out quite a lot and are pretty great in my opinion.- 22 replies

Fallout Equestria: Classic or Overrated?
BastementSparkle replied to TerminalObsession's topic in Sugarcube Corner
It's been a while since I read, so I don't entirely remember those early parts the best. I remember she definitely had some shock at the first death, but perhaps my mind is overstating it a bit. I can tell you at least without spoiling much that she does get increasingly disturbed and messed up as the story goes on. I can remember quite a few break-downs of various kinds on her part.- 22 replies

Fallout Equestria: Classic or Overrated?
BastementSparkle replied to TerminalObsession's topic in Sugarcube Corner
The fanfic get's better as it goes on, though I can understand quitting if you didn't like the early chapters. I found the early ones interesting enough to keep me reading, so maybe you wouldn't think the later chapters were better anyway. In my opinion it's probably the best fanfiction this community has ever produced, even if it's not my personal favorite. If I could ask, exactly what about it was too "Unrealistic"? It's certainly not a Fanfiction I would call particularly "Realistic" but it's an enjoyable one nonetheless.- 22 replies
