  1. It seems like saying anything negative regarding the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is considered heresy by any gamer who's into RPGs in general.

Well I've played a shit ton of RPGs from titles such as Mass Effect to RPGs that focus more on freedom such as Fallout: New Vegas and I've put about a good solid 60 hours of gameplay into the Witcher 3 so I have a definite say in what I think about this game.

Keep in mind that I was excited to play this game.

In short, I found it to be boring and never finished it, and I think I know why.

The Witcher 3 has a good story, characters, and open world, but it is not a good roleplaying game.

And this is directly at fault do to the fact that the series is based off of the book series.

Or I could just say a book series in general.

Because if it's one thing that books and movies have in common it's that they're both forms of media that try to tell a story.

Not your story, a story, the developer's story.

Which results in the Witcher 3 having an extreme lack of freedom over certain aspects.

One being your relationship with Yen.

The game seems to force your character to be attracted to Yennefer regardless if you're even interested or not.

I found Yen to be an awfully boring character in terms of personality, but it seemed like there was no break up option with her.

I want more control over shit like that.

Often at times Geralt would say something or make a decision that I wish I could have altered.

I just felt at times during dialogue I didn't have much control of Geralt rather he was set on autopilot mode for a brief moment.

The Mass Effect games were better at things like dialogue control and relationship freedom.

Now if we're just taking freedom in general into account, it would be unfair to compare Fallout: New Vegas to the Witcher 3.

New Vegas provides more freedom than most roleplaying games I've seen.

If you were powerful enough you could kill everyone in the world.

Certain choices you made could have a long lasting effect on what a particular faction thought of you.

Help out the NCR enough times and the Legion will eventually mark you as Vilified.

Want to kill the leader of the Legion?

Just disguise yourself as a Legion soldier walk into The Fort up to Caesar's throne and put a bullet in his head.

The less freedom you have in an RPG, the less choices you have.

In the Witcher 3 it's nearly impossible to kill guards no matter what level you are because the game makes them nearly indestructible.

So in that aspect, Skyrim has more freedom.

And the game won't allow you to attack anyone who's not a guard and in non hostile state. (like peasants, beggars, citizens)

And while you probably don't have a good reason to do so, it just takes more freedom away from the game.

In conclusion, I didn't really like the Witcher 3 because in my opinion it's not a good RPG.

Please feel free to share your thoughts on the matter.

  2. From your time playing video games (if you ever have), has there ever been a moment where the enemy AI that impressed you?

Well for me FEAR 1 had the best enemy AI I've ever seen in a video game.

And that's saying allot since it's well over a decade old.

I'm talking specifically about the Replica Soldiers.

Throughout the game, you are tapped into the RS's radio chat and can hear what the soldiers are saying to each other.

This is because the command given can help the player predict the actions of the enemy.

Here's just a sample of what they say:

Yes, Replica soldiers will spread out to look for you, try and flank you stealthy, see your flashlight if you have it turned on, throw grenades at a reasonable distance (not at close range which put's themselves at risk), see you at a long distance if you're within the field of view, hear you if knock something over, and will never stop searching for you if they see you once at anytime.

Not to mention that the damage taken on normal difficulty is similar to real life which adds to the dynamic combat in FEAR.

If you play the game without slowmo, you'll die in a hail of gun fire.

But seriously, the AI is probably what I love about this game the most.

  3. I've had some problems related to caffeine before. Palpitations, restless nights, breathless moments, etc.

I suggest that you get yourself to a doctor. They can check you out, see if it's anything else. But if it's only caffeine, then what they'll probably suggest is that you just drink water or anything caffeine free for a while. That's what they suggested for me and it worked.

I could be wrong of course with your situation but it's only an opinion, of course.

I have a doctor's appointment coming up later this month, so I'll mention it then.

  4. Emotionally I'm not really doing so well.

My mood right now is a mix of boredom, frustration, and sadness.

    I don't know why I'm sad though.

I have no reason to be.

    Physically I'm a wreck.

I'm addicted to caffeine to the point I think it's giving me health issues.

Whenever I get tired, I begin to shake for some reason and feel like I'm going to collapse.

It's also hard to breathe sometimes; breathing through my mouth feels like I'm getting as much air as breathing through one nostril in my nose.

Of course, I don't feel as bad when I'm not tired, but I often turn to caffeine to keep myself awake.

Unfortunately, this has led to several restless nights, and some nights where I get an hour or two of sleep.

Hope things get better sometime this month.

  5. That's alright. I can't hear most English lyrics either. It'll sound the same to me.

I definitely like the sound of that song though.

Though they're a black metal folk band (black metal being a genre with allot of screeching), Ensiferum's not really a huge culprit in the case of incomprehensible music.

A quick read of the lyrics from their track "Twilight Tavern" and you'll know exactly what the leader singer is saying and what the song's about.

  6. Very nice!

Wish I could draw on my computer.

    I really suck at that.

I have a small but NSFW piece inspired by the Great and Powerful Trixie that I thought twice about posting

Yeah, you'd get warning points for that stuff.

You could post it on DeviantArt though.

They'll take NSFW art work with the exception of an age restriction.
