  1. Where would my mental state be in the morning without my daily coffee, I wonder? Scary thought... I've been drinking it routinely for several years now with at least one cup a day. About two if I want to stay up longer at night. Not only does it help stave off whatever drowsiness I would have at the moment, it also helps elevate my mood and keeps my mind going in bit of a more positive direction. Definitely helpful for when I want to keep my focus up. Coffee is life.~
  2. So far, I've read some decent reasons for furthering my study of the Russian language. Cultural interests, content exclusivity, and whatnot. I guess what I was also trying to ask and find out is if I could also find more long term uses for it as well. To make vocal and written use of it as often as reasonably possible, within and outside the internet for example. Though ultimately, it seems like that's going to be left up to my personal future. Besides what I've already stated for the use of my Spanish, my expansion of it is almost completely nonexistent. To be quite honest, and hilariously ironic at the same time, I have little to no interest in pursuing anything else related to it. Hardly much of what's associated with the language appeals to me, really. Funny how this is coming from a native speaker who's trying to learn another language of less relevance, huh?
  3. Currently, I'm doing a self-study of the Russian language and so far, I've been learning the basics of it. After meeting a couple of english-speaking Russian friends some time ago, that sparked an interest in wanting to get to know the language a little better. Which lead me to taking the study a little more seriously when I spent more time on educational websites and even going so far as to buying a book on its basics for convenient use for whenever I'm out and about. However, I've recently come to a halt when I stopped and asked myself, "What's the point?". By that, I mean beyond just wanting to converse with a couple of people for a little more mutual understanding, what else can I do with that knowledge? Even if I did come to learn the language more fluently overtime, what other purpose would it serve? For example, my native language is spanish and just about the only moments I ever make use of it is between me and my older relatives. Once I move out of my state someday, I see little to no use in it anymore. Maybe if I get a call from my parents now and then, but that would be the extent of its use then. So, for all those people who are fluent in multiple other languages, I'm curious as to what other means do you extend your communication to? Does your knowledge of them serve other purposes in your life? Do you believe and/or do you know other people who would take interest in talking to others outside of their native area? What does 'Language X' offer that 'Language Y' doesn't? Etc. I ask because I don't think I should start learning another language "just because". Otherwise, at the moment, I feel like I'm wasting my time with it if my only reason for using it is to talk to a handful of people online, who may eventually move on with their lives and be gone one day.
  4. Thanks for the feedback. Really appreciate it. True, I could've given him a coffee related name, but then again, I didn't want him to revolve around it completely. Since he, like I do, also have other interests/hobbies and such. But in essence, the name implies his qualities lie within the simpler pleasures in life. Thus, the "chill and easy going" bit I mentioned. Coffee just being among one of his most highlighted aspects when it helps with something such as adjusting to melancholic moods, for example. Or something to that effect. Still trying to figure out how to explain it better... And that's exactly how I intend to use him. While he won't mirror my life and personality exactly, he will keep some of my other quirks intact. It's fun seeing where I can go with a backstory, as well as using other relative settings. I'm glad you think so, but I still see plenty of room for detail. For now, I'll work with what I have and build more up, should I go with RPing or anything else constructive later.
  5. That's a very good question. It's one detail I'll have to make up over time, though unfortunately, I have no in-depth answer for at the moment. Ah. Gotcha. I thought you meant otherwise. My bad for misunderstanding.
  6. Ah, yes. That was more of a "run of the mill" thing and I admit, it was one part I didn't put too much thought into. While I was constructing my OC, I was stumped for an idea at the time and the artist helped by suggesting I put in something I had more (productive) passion for. Whether it was books, games, or just that, coffee. Since we were both fans of the stuff and it's one of those things we have in common as friends, I decided to go with it and work off of that. But it's not to say his cutie mark is invalidated due to a lack of thought. It's still something I want to work off of and I apologize for this one tidbit that I've yet to make anything to speak of right now... Short answer for the time being: It's what helped him find his driving force. Whether it's by creation or helping him go through the rough spots in life. And I don't necessarily mean caffeine highs, mind you. Could use more help on this part, however. Also, may I ask what you meant by "dope" when you addressed the color scheme? I'm aware it appears dull at a glance, but then again, my reasoning for this is because I didn't want to make him look too flamboyant with brighter colors.
  7. This is basically my first time creating a ponysona/OC for myself and I could use some thoughts, as well as any necessary critique. Like some people do with their OCs, I wanted to make it sort of a (Equestrian) representation of myself and not entirely a different entity altogether. Some changes in personality would take place though. Like, for example, replace video games with fiction novels. So, for starters, here is the reference pic for visual presentation: Credit and thanks go to the original artist for the artwork. All I did was provide the descriptive details. I know it says 'Drake' in the reference, but this was before I could think of a name for my ponysona. (And yes, that is my name.) I was thinking of naming him "Somber Solace", but I don't know if that sounds too weird or not. His cutie mark, resembling steam lines, is supposedly a representation of his enthusiasm for coffee and activities related to it. Whether it's coffee drawings/paintings, growing his own coffee beans, or just serving/making it for others when they need it. Likewise, in real life, it's almost always been a decent stress reliever. As for personality, he's pretty much chill and likes to take it easy in life. However, he's prone to gloomy moods and stress and doesn't sleep much. Regardless of any caffeine consumption. Thus, the bags under his eyes. I tried to make his color scheme reflect on said gloomy moods since I believe they also fit me on a personal level. Also, like many other OC creators, I originally wanted to create a pegasus character or possibly a unicorn, but ultimately didn't. Reason being that most people already do something interesting with their characters, while as for me. I thought a boring earth pony OC would be fitting for a boring person like myself. Besides all this, I have little to no backstory for him at the moment. All else I can add for now is that he currently resides in Manehatten doing who-knows-what. With that, I welcome any constructive input you might have.
  8. Stressed, and it's only piling up after having been fired from my job last week...
  9. Got approved to be part of staff for BABSCon this year. Looking forward to experiencing my first convention ever and becoming a productive member of it.
  10. Just my wallet, which has nothing more than my debit card and ID for everyday use just in case. If I'm out for a longer period of time, then I'll bring my MP3 player and/or my 3DS. I try not to bring a lot with me since anything else beyond basic necessity is pointless and because of the (paranoid) thought of having something of mine stolen or left behind.
  11. I'm curious if there are vendors that'll accept debit cards or checks alternatively, but I'm guessing they won't and I'll need to bring physical cash on hand just in case?
  12. Thanks for the informative response. By your description, it would seem the 'EUP Brigade' would be the best choice for me. I don't mind doing the leg work and social interactions that are necessary for the jobs. Something else I forgot to ask, but how much time would volunteer workers have to go about and enjoy the con themselves? Such as taking the time to view/buy merchandise from vendors or meeting up with their friends? Unless breaks cover that... I apologize if all this sounds 'noob-ish' and obvious to most people already, but I'd rather be safe (and prepared) than sorry.
  13. So, I've already reserved my hotel room and 3-day con pass. With this being my first convention ever, I was interested in doing volunteer work for them and I had some general questions pertaining to things like applying for positions and the job requirements. When I go to BABSCon's main site for registering to volunteer, they have a list of positions available and when I go through them, I'll obviously go for the ones I believe I can assist best at. But my main personal concern is, for an "Average Joe" like me who's done mostly manual labor jobs and not much else in the way of brain work, which of these jobs would really suit me? However, I don't want to be too restrictive with my choices and I'm open to new experiences, so I want ask: Are things like E&P and Operations the best option for me? I'd like to know what I'll get myself into before signing up. Also, when choosing a badge type in their staff application form, there's the "BABSCon Staff - FREE" and "EUP Brigade" choices. Which of these do I choose for a first time con goer like me? Lastly, I had a question about con passes. Is there a time limit to picking them up at the convention in order to attend? I'm probably going to arrive at the con during the afternoon hours, but if I have to arrive much earlier in the morning to obtain mine, then so be it.
  14. Can there please be an option for a zero? It feels like if I'm ever called such a thing as being "cute", it'd be nothing more than a sarcastic remark to me.
  15. I can empathize. When you've gone through a series of friends throughout your life, you tend to hold on to the ones who've gone through the test of time and stuck by you for years. Word of advice: Make your friendships last/count. You never know when they'll leave your life unexpectedly and/or when the next one will come into your life. It's quality over quantity when it comes to me, so you can have all the acquaintances in the world, but they wouldn't mean much when compared to the time and amount of interaction you've spent with the ones who do genuinely care about you.
  16. Tired. Stressed. Unfulfilled. I have things I want to do, but I don't have the motivation to work on them. Doesn't help that I feel drained of energy every day from my own, mundane life and I take (pointless) naps to ease myself afterwards. However, that only works for so long because I just wake up feeling tired again. Coffee never looked so good and refreshing...
  17. Just upgraded last night and the installation process was kind of a pain. At first, the notifier icon kept failing to download the upgrade so I had to manually download the installer from Microsoft's official site and take over from there. So far, everything seems to be working fine and smoothly, save for a couple of programs no longer working due to incompatibility, but they're merely insignificant losses now due to them being outdated anyway. Boot-up time could be better, but that's mostly because I'm still using an old drive, but the improvement is noticeable, I guess. I've yet to explore every feature that's been added, though I doubt I'll even use them all. The new start menu is nice and all, but I'll still be sticking to Stardock's Start10 program from now on.
  18. I'm not one for romance/love, but I always thought 'On Melancholy Hill' by Gorillaz was a fitting song for such a thing.
  19. As most of you know, Windows 10 will be officially released later this month and users of Windows 7 - 8.1 will be given a chance to permanently upgrade to it for free for the first year. Will you or will you not be partaking in the upgrade? I personally will at the earliest opportunity, but for those of you who decide not to at this time, I'd like to see your reasons.
  20. I shower after three or four days. I used to do it everyday, but because of the drought here in California, I had to do it less often so we have to do our part to conserve water.
  21. Thanks for making my childhood all the more fun and memorable. RIP, sir.
  22. Somewhere around 11 AM to 12 PM. I sleep pretty late, so sometimes it takes me a while to get out of bed.
  23. Try to get a job as I have been already. Won't that be fun...
  24. More than a year later and I'm still at Cupcake rank. Go me.
  25. On average, I've been staying up until 4 AM. Any later than that and I start to feel too tired in the morning (or afternoon) if I don't get enough sleep. I know that's kinda bad for my health, seeing as how I've been waking up cranky and sometimes too weak to get out of bed, but on some nights I don't pay all that much attention to time or just don't care. If I have work or anything important the next day, I'll probably go to bed sometime between 10 - 12. Depends on how long it takes for me to fall asleep.
