  1. The Angry Video Game Nerd movie for me. It may just be my AVGN bias, but while I can see what people mean by the rather bland side characters and poor pacing, I honestly feel for a movie with a budget of not even half a million dollars, it does what it's aiming for pretty well.
  2. Okay, I'm just going to say it.. Steven Universe is seriously competing with MLP:FiM for my favorite show at the moment.

Windows 8.1 (codenamed Blue) is an upgrade for Windows 8, a version of Windows NT, a computer operating system released by Microsoft. First unveiled and released as a public beta in June 2013, it was released to manufacturing on August 27, 2013, and reached general availability on October 17, 2013, almost a year after the retail release of its predecessor. Windows 8.1 is available free of charge for retail copies of Windows 8 and Windows RT users via the Windows Store. Unlike service packs on previous versions of Windows, users who obtained 8 outside of retail copies or pre-loaded installations (i.e., volume licensing) must obtain 8.1 through new installation media from their respective subscription or enterprise channel. Microsoft's support lifecycle policy treats Windows 8.1 similar to previous service packs of Windows: It is part of Windows 8's support lifecycle, and installing 8.1 is required to maintain access to support and Windows updates after January 12, 2016. However, unlike previous service packs, Windows 8.1 cannot be acquired via Windows Update.
  4. You know something I'm kind of surprised by in Steven Universe? They are able to put a good story in 11 minutes while making it feel well-paced (for the most part).

  5. Gravity Falls, easily. I like Adventure Time, I never really got "hooked" on it like I did with many of my favorite shows.

The PlayStation (officially abbreviated as PS and unofficially, but more commonly known as PS1 and PSX, not to be confused with the PlayStation X console) is a home video game console developed and marketed by Sony Computer Entertainment. The console was released in Japan on December 3, 1994, and was released in North America and Europe in September 1995. The PlayStation is the first of the PlayStation series of consoles and handheld game devices. As part of the fifth generation of gaming, it primarily competed with the Nintendo 64 and the Sega Saturn. In 2000, a re-designed "slim" version called the PSone was released, replacing the original grey console and named appropriately to avoid confusion with its successor, the PlayStation 2. The PlayStation is the first "computer entertainment platform" to ship 100 million units, which it had reached 9 years and 6 months after its initial launch. Reactions to the console upon launch were favourable; critics praised the console for the quality of its 3-dimensional graphics. Then Microsoft chairman, Bill Gates, preferred Sony's console to the competition from Sega's Saturn, saying "our game designer likes the Sony machine". The successor to the PlayStation is the PlayStation 2, which is backwards compatible with its predecessor in that it can play almost every PlayStation game. The last PSone units were sold in winter of 2004 before it was finally discontinued, for a total of 102 million units shipped since its launch 10 years earlier. Games for the PlayStation continued to sell until Sony ceased production of PlayStation games on March 23, 2006 – over 11 years after it had been released, and less than a year before the debut of the PlayStation 3.

The Nintendo Entertainment System (also abbreviated as NES) is an 8-bit home video game console that was developed and manufactured by Nintendo. It was initially released in Japan as the Family Computer (Japanese: ファミリーコンピュータ Hepburn: Famirī Konpyūta?) (also known by the portmanteau abbreviation Famicom (ファミコン Famikon?) and abbreviated as FC) on July 15, 1983, and was later released in North America during 1985, in Europe during 1986, and Australia in 1987. In South Korea, it was known as the Hyundai Comboy (현대 컴보이 Hyeondae Keomboi) and was distributed by SK Hynix which then was known as Hyundai Electronics. It was succeeded by the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The best-selling gaming console of its time, the NES helped revitalize the US video game industry following the video game crash of 1983. With the NES, Nintendo introduced a now-standard business model of licensing third-party developers, authorizing them to produce and distribute titles for Nintendo's platform. In 2009, the Nintendo Entertainment System was named the single greatest video game console in history by IGN, in a list of 25. It is the second greatest console behind only the Sega Dreamcast in PC Magazine‍ 's "Top 10 Video Game Consoles of All Time".
  8. Going back to this thread, going on what I said earlier, I feel the original Super Smash Bros hasn't aged well at all. The game feels rather clunky and slow-paced, the graphics aren't really good (even for the N64), and overall compared to the others it's probably the only one I can't really get into in any way, shape or form.
  9. super smash flash xdd It used to be SSBM, but after playing SSB4 (the 3DS version at least), I have to say SSB4 overtakes it. I like the characters, plus it overall feels the most epic. The only SSB game I don't really care for though is SSB64, although I haven't played Brawl yet. I feel SSB64 didn't age well, and it feels rather clunky to play.

  12. Castlevania is a popular game that came out on the Famicom Disk System in 1986 and the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987 by Konami, who released another NES classics like Contra and Adventure Island, as well as games like Metal Gear Solid, and it has spawned into a series that to this day many gamers love, including the Angry Video Game Nerd. Therefore, I decided to purchase the first game on the 3DS Virtual Console, and here are my thoughts. This review comes from the opinions of the poster himself. This does not reflect the opinions of the rest of the gaming community. Plot: In 1691, Dracula has been resurrected and his castle emerges. Therefore, Simon Belmont travels through the castle in attempt to defeat Dracula, so he doesn't take over the town, and along the way defeats other bosses in the form of fictional monsters like Frankenstein, the Grim Reaper, Medusa and a few others. As you can see, the plot's not exactly great and complex, but it's an platforming NES game released in the 80's so meh. As you guys probably know, the main theme with Castlevania is that it takes enemies and bosses and whatnot, general ideas, from classic horror movies like Frankenstein, which I find to be an interesting idea for around that time. The game itself isn't exactly your typical NES sidescrolling platformer though. While it does use the typical move and jump like you'd see in games like Super Mario and has the generic life system and 3 lives at start, it has a slight bit of combat to be seen, as Simon Belmont has a whip, which is his main weapon against oncoming enemies, and can also be used to hit candles. If you hit a candle, items can come out. They're usually hearts, but sometimes they turn out to be extra weapons. The extra weapons are.. -Knives - Can be thrown across the screen to hit enemies -Holy Water - Attacks and freezes enemies lower than you -Axe - Can attack flying enemies and can be chucked from up the air -Cross - Pretty much a boomerang! -Stop Watch - Stops enemies for a certain amount of time The hearts on the other hand.. you'd probably expect them to restore your health, but they are actually used for power for these extra weapons. Most of the weapons here bar the Stop Watch (which costs 5 hearts) only use up 1 heart, but if you use up your hearts or die, you lose the weapon until you find it again, or if you find another weapon, that replaces the weapon you were using. I'd recommend getting tons of hearts and weapons in the game, because this game does get pretty hard. Sometimes, it's because of the level design. I mean, the level design of the game is pretty solid and there's not much wrong with it, except for the fact that there are a few levels of the game where there are tons of enemies coming from you at all directions, like Medusa heads and knights, in which you really need to stock up hearts for. The bosses are also pretty hard too, with the projectiles and whatnot, and well.. it's easier to use the weapons for, more specifically the Axe. But one of the biggest problems I have with the game that leads to rather hard difficuilty is that the game contains, well.. knockback. If you don't know what that means, it's when your player gets knocked back when they get hit. It's not so bad at first, but on levels where the platforms are separated over a pit and there's flying enemies coming at you, it gets rather tedious. My tip? GET TONS OF HEARTS AND SPAM WEAPONS AT ONCOMING ENEMIES GG NO RE YEAH.. okay enough of that. Anyway, if hearts don't restore health.. than what does? Well, hidden in certain walls, you can find pork chops, which restore your health. Because that makes sense, finding an old porkchop in the walls of an old castle restores your health. In the game, there is a total of 18 stages, however they are seperated into groups, which makes up the levels. The stages are grouped in 3, therefore there are 6 levels total in the game, so it's not too long despite it being rather hard. Although despite how hard it is, I like going back to it, and I see it as one of those "hard yet fun" kind of games, making it a similar case with games like Crash Bandicoot and The Lion King. However though, and while this may be because I play this game on the 2DS/3DS VC, I feel the controls are a tad slippery, and there are often times, especially with platform jumping and enemies coming at you from every angle, where I end up accidentally overjumping the platforms. This may also be because of the fact about what's going on, but still. As well, there is a slight delay with Simon's whip, and that kind of ruins a bit of timing for me. The controls aren't too bad, but not the best either. The graphics have actually aged decently for the NES. There is a slight bit of slowdown at some points, but otherwise, I actually think the sprites and background look good for the time. The music as well is rather catchy, and is probably some of the best music on the NES. There are some tunes I find a bit forgettable, but for the most part, I actually like the soundtrack to this game in general. Overall Opinions: While it has flaws, I think Castlevania is a pretty fun game. Not my favorite NES game for the knockback and the minor issues with the controls, but still, it's one game I like going back to.. despite me not getting very far in it. But, overall, if you are looking for a good retro sidescrolling platformer, than this is a game I recommend, and I can definitely see why it's considered a classic by many. Although, unless you're a rather hardcore gamer or whatever, don't expect to this game to be beaten within a matter of minutes, it's a bit on the difficult side! Even though I have heard the second and third games are even harder, but whatevs. MLP Fanon Review: Double Rainboom Friday Game Review: Freedom Planet (PC, 2014) Sunday Television: First Impressions - We Bare Bears Next Thomas Special: King of the Railway (2013)
  13. I played the full version of SSB4 today. Best SSB game yet IMO.

  14. This one actually surprised me. Now, as I said in my Day of the Diesels review, I went through a period in my life between late 2011 and mid 2013 where I "grew out" of Thomas and Friends. Not going to explain to much, since I did so in my Day of the Diesels, but I temporarily stopped watching Thomas and Friends as a whole. In fact, to this day, I've barely watched any of Season 16 (only like, 5 episodes of it), and when I heard about a new special coming out, I didn't care much for it. However, when I got back into Thomas, I decided to go ahead and give this special a chance, and watched it online. And man, did I realize I missed out. This review comes from the opinions of the poster himself. This does not reflect the opinions of the rest of the community. Plot: After an accident, Thomas works at the Blue Mountain Quarry, where the Narrow Gauge engines are, when he finds out about a green engine named Luke. He hears about something bad that Luke did, and Thomas tries his best to get at the bottom of it all, while making sure no one else finds out. The Good: I actually like the introduced characters in this special. I mean, I don't really care much for Winston, he's kind of just Kevin 2.0 albeit with more "moments," but I do feel Merrick and Owen have a good place in the quarry, and Luke.. well, I have to say he's probably one of my favorite characters, not just of the CGI era, but of all time, because in this special alone, he's developed really well. I really like how he feels really bad for what he thought he did in the past (which was knocking "the yellow engine" into the sea), to the point of feeling huge guilt and paranoia of the engine being smelted, despite the yellow engine being revealed to be Victor. Luke actually feels rather dynamic, and his development/redemption in this special is executed rather well. In fact, I'd argue that Luke's redemption here is done better than Sunset Shimmer's redemption in EQGirls: Rainbow Rocks. Luke and Victor's backstory is rather interesting, and I feel it helped developed Victor a bit as well. Paxton was also developed pretty well in this special. He went from a static background character that was literally introduced because merchandise to a pretty good character. He does end up mishearing Luke's backstory, and tells Diesel about it, which they try to get Sir Topham Hatt involved, yet I wouldn't say he's really an antagonist/villain of the special, just rather naïve, and I really respect the fact that they gave an already existing character that didn't do much an actual personality instead of pulling another "introduced engine" out of their butts so they can make merchandise out of it. I like the introduced Blue Mountain Quarry as well. It's a good idea for a place for the Skarloey Railway engines to work at, and it feels very "industrial," considering all the sounds of it, the machines and the engines working there. It feels much more industrial and busy than the Skarloey Railway quarries seen in the model series, and it really shows how the CGI switch can really pay off. The Skarloey Railway engines themselves are plus, as their CGI renders are rather detailed, and they follow close to the models seen in the Classic Series. One advantage in fact is that Peter Sam's "special funnel" is actually shaped right in CGI. For comparison sake.. In fact, the personalities of the Skarloey Railway are probably the best thing about their appearances. In Seasons 7-12, some of the NG engines' personalities largely changed, and they weren't good at all. Skarloey and Rheneas became more childish and Sir Handel became wise and somehow became the oldest engine on the railway. Plus, in Season 9, Rusty somehow became a girl (or at least he was called one xd), which was rather odd. Here, they actually revert to they're old personas. Sure, Rheneas complaining about needing a coat of paint was pretty annoying, but still, it's good to see the engines reverting back to their old personalities instead of what we had in Seasons 7-12. There is one small problem I have with the Blue Mountain Quarry regarding the animation that's only present in this special which I'll get to, but otherwise, I really like the location, and it's much better thought out than places like Misty Island. One of the things that got me interested in seeing the special though was the references to the classic series. When Thomas goes back to his shed after hearing about Luke, he asks the other engines about bad things they did in the past, to see if there's anything that could get them sent away from Sodor. And with that, we get flashbacks rendered in CGI to three Classic Series episodes - A Scarf for Percy (S3E1), The Sad Story of Henry/Come Out Henry (S1E3) and Down the Mine (S1E25), respectively. I feel like this alone was a nice throwback to the Classic Series and was rather nice to see. The plot itself was rather interesting and well paced. While Misty Island Rescue and Day of the Diesels got repetitive and tedious to watch, this one actually intrigued me, and when I watched it, I actually wanted to see what would happen in the special. The film was written by Sharon Miller, but Andrew Brenner ended up editing and looking over the script, and it really pays off here. The dialogue doesn't have annoying rhymes and alliteration that make you want to blow your ears out, and it actually moves the special along well. The music to this special is once again great and so is the animation. Not much else to say there, considering those seem to be a pattern seen in the specials. The Bad: If there's one huge problem I have with this special, it's that the plot feels slightly contrived. Mainly the fact that Mr. Percival is unaware of the fact that there's an engine that he doesn't know about working on his railway. I feel this wouldn't really work for a few reasons.. -Mr. Percival probably would've followed traces of him somehow -The workmen or Luke's driver/firemen probably would've talked about Luke to Mr. Percival or Sir Topham Hatt -If he was sent on a ship and unloaded onto Sodor, I really doubt he would just not be known to anyone on Sodor. Plus, the backstory has just one problem I have, and it's that.. when the engines arrived and were being unloaded, then why didn't anyone notice the chains? Even if they didn't look or understood Spanish, I'm sure at least a few of them would understand "problema." And towards the ending, it gets slightly unrealistic with Thomas going up the incline, trying to grip onto the Narrow Gauge rails and Luke and Thomas going down the incline. Rather small, but worth mentioning. Also, the only problem I had with Blue Mountain Quarry, in this special at least, is that it looked slightly too "blue." Yes, that was the gimmick, but it looks a bit more toylike. Not too bad, but I personally feel the coloring of the Blue Mountain Quarry was done much better in the Arc renders than here. The Ugly: The final scene with Rheneas colored yellow was a pretty unfunny and pointless gag, and felt rather forced for merchandise. Overall Opinions: While I wouldn't say it's the best special yet, I feel this one is a huge step up from the previous specials. The plot was interesting, the characters were good and the Blue Mountain Quarry itself is a rather nice destination to see, and this special overall was a great way to bring the Skarloey Railway back and a nice introduction for Andrew Brenner. This is the final Nitrogen-animated production, but it was probably their best one yet. Overall, another good Thomas special. 16. Easily Steam. 99% of mobile games either don't interest me, or are very poorly made (i.e. the 5 million retextures of flappy bird). Not to mention, as people have said, they tend to focus too much on pay2win, and touch screen controls are awful. While on Steam, there's tons of games that I like, such Freedom Planet and Team Fortress 2.
  17. Didn't really care much for the second Friendship Games short (Pinkie Spy) tbh.

  18. Best waifu in a nutshell.
