  1. I wasn't staff when you were banned back in 2014, but I recall your poise and of course that somewhat memorable animated Trixie avatar. We could all probably write a book about our lives since then. I may not be correctly remembering your talent, and didn't know your age back then, but I do recall being somewhat impressed by your insights into pony back when I was just getting into the fandom myself.

I said this to you privately, but I want to reiterate it here again, none of us are really the same person we were after years of experiences. Nor will we be the same person after years of new experiences. As humans we all have the capacity to grow if we step back and reflect. None of us have to become saints, that would be boring, however we can always try and be better than our most emotional instincts would have us be.

That's enough of that. I firmly believe in not pushing someone's old mistakes back upon them, so I can promise you a clean slate. You do really need to eventually get caught up. You missed a lot! I actually am looking forward to your thoughts on a few of the 'newer' episodes. It is certainly nice seeing a fresh perspective from an old timer.

  2. This is one of those strange times that I really really like an episode for the very reasons people dislike it. It could be that I’m a bit on the older side so my corporate and extracurricular experiences have found me in roles that I was perplexed by, and was not fond of. Twilight’s first act statement that Dash’s hesitation solidified her choice acts as a buffer to the closing comments.

In this Twilight pulls a parental trick that really observant parents, bosses, and managers do. They see a talent that is applicable to another function and place the person/child in that role to help hone the finer qualities of the talent. You don’t say anything because it would justify the decision with unearned praise, rather than place the person in an unfamiliar environment to help them grow.

It’s one of those episodes that are more relatable to parents and established middle management types than the core of the fandom. I can understand why people didn’t enjoy it, but I suppose I’m glad I was able to come away with a more positive viewing experience informed by my own real world life and experiences.

...And this why I'm happy with waking up in the morning and leaving my face as is - a tired mess. Seriously speaking, I can respect those who have the patience to apply this stuff each day. I don't think I could handle one.

Right! I mean, it takes me no time to shave and boom! Done. Watching makeup tutorials and asking my kid ... this whole painting your face concept is crazy.

  4. Dude this blog ran its course two years ago. Waning interest ... check it happens. You were given suggestions on options to try and keep some interest in non pony elements and said no. Nothing more to discuss except spreading negativity that serves no function.  I’ll close this one out. Good luck to you man. Hope you find what you are looking for even if it isn’t here.

  5. I just pinged you on this, but Snowdancer was a gorgeous horse, and I am certain will be a missed family member.

    Don't Cry For The Horses
    by Brenda Riley-Seymore

Don't cry for the horses that life has set free.
A million white horses forever to be.
Don't cry for the horses now in God's hand.
As they dance and they prance in a heavenly band.
They were ours as a gift, but never to keep.
As they close their eyes forever to sleep.
Their spirits unbound. On silver wings they fly.
A million white horses against the blue sky.
Look up into heaven, you'll see them above.
The horses we lost, the horses we loved.
Manes and tails flowing they gallop through time.
They were never yours - they were never mine.
Don't cry for the horses. They'll be back someday.
When our time is gone, they will show us the way.
Do you hear that soft nicker? Close to your ear?
Don't cry for the horses. Love the ones that are here.

Yeah, i usually don't want to bother the forums with my personal problems. But i really felt like writing about this, not because i feel i owe anyone an explanation, but to show what a wonderful human being Dark Horse is. :)

That he is. When we hired him on staff I knew pretty early on he was a keeper and likely destined for an Administrator promotion. The man has empathy coming out of his pores.

  7. This sort of tribalism is why I game quietly and rarely talk about gaming on message boards or comments. It's a trope to suggest that software and experience is more important, but it is one that some (not all) forget. I don't know if some vitriolic approaches people have against some systems is due in part to the darker side of community, or perhaps an attempt to justify the choice a person made ... but it annoys me.

This is why I'll never state what system I chose to buy Battlefront 2 for. It invites too much stupidity.

Could you remind me which line it was again?  Only watched the episode once so far.

Maud says that she and Starlight don't have anything in common, they are just comfortable with each other.

Prettycool concept that should have seeded Sunburst with the moral that you don't need common interests. Follow that up with him asking Maud what they do when they hang out ... with a response that she <insert geology thing> and Starlight likes to fly kites.

Piggy back on that with the "surprise" idea being all four of them sitting on a hill flying kites instead of the life size game. When she pokes fun at them by suggesting that they don't even like flying kites ... boom goes the moral ... they like spending time with her.

Connects back to an earlier episode this season (something that the show has been doing) and makes that kite gag more meaningful. Nice payoff and more approachable conclusion to the episode.

I can handle differing opinions, I can't handle people who present opinions as fact.

I hear this statement a lot, and I often wonder if the person making it doesn't quite understand colloquial conversation. Which vernacular, sentence structure, and phrasing eliminates the assumption of implied opinion?

If I said "Man Rarity is going to suck next season", would it not be reasonable for a respondent to assume that that statement is an opinion, or have we gotten to the point that we fear we can't tell the difference?

I'm not trying to defend conflation and  or anything, but it can be a silly argument since it basically works as saying that the reader isn't smart enough to tell the difference.

  10. Differing opinions? On a fan forum. Oh my Lord what ever will we do?

One cannot control how another enjoys entertainment, but they generally have have control of their reaction.

Honestly ... both the people who scream about things they don't like and those that scream about the ones that scream are exactly the same to me. Someone else's take on something I like has literally no impact on how I much I enjoy a property. Sometimes I share the opinion, sometimes I don't. Sometimes I understand, sometimes I don't.

My own council will I keep on what I like or not. In the interim, I'll have fun with pointing out odd comments, as well as the absurdity of suggesting that one side is somehow taking the high road -- while not realizing that it is as imaginary as Equestria itself.

Basically, I may disagree with someone who relies too much on one character for enjoyment, but who the hell am I to suggest they aren't as good of a fan as I am. That would make me a dick, wouldn't it?
