Things you used to like, but now don't (and vice versa)?
User07832407840 replied to baba_booey's topic in General Discussion
I also used to not really like Applejack or Rarity. More so Appkejack. She's still my least favourite pony, but I gradually increased in my liking of her as the show went on. Rarity I really started to like after she started having more episodes focusing on her, and especially after Diamond Dogs, where she was just hilarious. -
Last thing I bought was from Amazon, a 10th Anniversary box set, containing the complete series, of The Powerpuff Girls. I ordered it on Tuesday and it arrived Friday, so that's pretty awesome. Plus it was only 23 dollars, including shipping and tax! That's an amazing price for 6 seasons of a fantastic TV show! Plus it has lots of bonus features and whatnot on each DVD. Here's a picture of it:

Why do you ship Ponies?

How is it horrible, though? It is not always because of sexual reasons. You might think that, but you're wrong. Wanting a character to have a strong affection for another because it would be adorable is not disgusting (especially if it's a completely non-sexual affection; you may not believe this exists in our world if you hold with certain theories of psychology, but there's no reason to assume this kind of affection can't exist in the pony universe). It's just like any other kind of fantasizing about "what if"s in stories you are engaged in. Did you read my last post here, because I explain my view more there? Sorry for all of us jumping on you like this; you're allowed to have an opinion, but I think you may be misunderstanding the shipping phenomenon a bit.- 44 replies

I forgot about that! So it is proven, gemstones are of value. Dang... Rarity could be rolling in the dough (if she wanted to)! I do think that that is the case, that only those who's special talent is gem-finding or magic, like Rarity or Twilight, can do the gem finding spells. To divert from the topic slightly, couldn't Twilight also easily become the richest pony in Equestria, even more so than Rarity, since there's even more ways for her to generate money apart from finding gems (I mean, I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if that unicorn could just look at a thing and turn it into a gem!)? But yeah, it's kind of funny that though Rarity has the special talent she has, she uses it almost exclusively for fashion. Shows a lot about the kind of pony she is.

Because Flutterdash would be freaking adorable!! When I watch the show I like to imagine that RD has a crush on Flutters. It makes scenes involving the two of them more interesting, and it's fun to watch for moments that seem to confirm my "theory" (of which there's quite a few, though probably unintended). Plus, it's probably the most realistic ship; both are Pegasi, they've been friends for many years growing up together in Cloudsdale, and I can see Rainbow Dash being attracted to Fluttershy's gentle, innocent personality. To someone like Dash, who has a completely different kind of personality, these traits stand out more and are made even more admirable. Maybe also Dash finds it intriguing and mysterious how somepony could possibly be a Pegasus yet not love flying and prefer to stay near the ground and help little animals. I like to think that Dash has realized this is because of Fluttershy's overwhelming levels of kindness that has caused her to want to care for animals, and Dash admires this trait. As well as Fluttershy's cuteness. (Of course). It's not a sexual thing for me; I don't fantasize about them being together sexually. I imagine that in the pony world, ponies can have loving relationships, even to the point of two mares living together as a couple, in a platonic (non-sexual) way. It's true that this probably isn't true, though, due the that one episode where the CMC's try to set up Ms. Cheerilee and only consider stallions as options. But it can be true in my head, and besides, what do the CMC's know, they're still young!- 44 replies

I wouldn't quit the fandom. It doesn't matter what they do now, they've already created an amazing enough show that I will always consider myself a member of this fandom at least in regards to FiM up to the point where they start going downhill, IF they ever do. If FiM goes downhill because of them diverting energy and time to a side-show, that would suck, but I don't have to keep watching. I can always re-watch old episodes and consider myself a "brony" in regards to those episodes. If there's an EQG side-show, I'll probably watch it, but it could never hold the same appeal to me as MLP:FiM. Never. But I wouldn't go so far as to quit being a brony.

Not sure if this has been mentioned or not already, but... Has anyone considered that there is a difference between how much Rarity "makes," through her business and fashion designing, and how wealthy she is? That difference: she has a special talent for finding gems with her magic. The episode "Diamond Dogs" shows how Rarity is basically capable of gaining unlimited wealth. No wonder she's so generous; money is practically valueless to her since she could have as much of it as she wants (ASSUMING that gemstones can be sold for money in the pony world. I'm not sure if this has been confirmed in the show, though; it could be that gemstones are rare and used in fashion but can't be bought or sold easily. That wouldn't make any sense in our own world, but hey, they aren't living in our world). Still, there are others who, with Rarity's gift of finding gemstones, would hoard as many as they could and give none away except to those willing to pay enough. Rarity doesn't do this, which is really impressive and kind of inspirational. In terms of what she makes from her business, it's probably a lot less than what she could be making if she was greedy. She's an amazing dress maker and could probably charge a very large sum of money for her wares. However, knowing Rarity and her generosity, she probably sells them for a lot cheaper than she could, and I wouldn't be surprised if she gave out dresses for free on special occasions or to special people, like the dresses she made for her friends for the Grand Galloping Gala. So her profits are probably less than you'd expect due to her generosity.

I sometimes look up the songs to listen to them specifically, outside of the actual episode. So no, I don't skip them. There's some really, really good ones, like "Winter Wrap Up", "Art of the Dress", and "What My Cutie Mark Is Telling Me" (these are three of my favourites), and I couldn't imagine watching the episodes skipping these songs.

That makes sense. I second this.

Pegasus. Being a unicorn and having magic could be kind of cool, but unless you're the next Twilight Sparkle, there's not all that much you can do with it besides simple levitation and whatever spells pertain to your specific vocation. But being a Pegasus, you could fly! You probably wouldn't fly as fast as RD, but still, the fact that you can fly would be so awesome. I'd still want to live in Ponyville though even if I was a Pegasus, rather than Cloudsdale, because I'd want to live among all the different kinds of ponies rather than just Pegasi. Plus I'd feel more special about my flying ability if I lived in Ponyville than if I lived where everyone else among me could also fly. Sure, being a Pegasus would come with responsibilities. I'd have to have a job with controlling the weather. And a job, no matter whether you're flying during it or not, is still a job and takes effort. But whatevs. It'd be worth it.

Which pony do you think is cutiest?
User07832407840 replied to Stone Cold Applejack's topic in Sugarcube Corner
Of the Mane 6, definitely Fluttershy. That's why she's been my favourite pony since the very first episode I watched. It's her personality as much as it is her appearance. She's so kind and gentle and shy. But also her hair is cute too. And then Rainbow Dash. She can be cute in a tomboyish kind of way, plus her hair is also pretty. But outside of the Mane 6 it's Sweetie Belle. No competition. Okay, well Apple Bloom does come pretty close, but still. -
There's other places you can watch it on. I'm currently watching Season 4 on Dailymotion.com. Here, follow this link: http://www.dailymotion.com/playlist/x30j6g_vanessakwells_mlp-fim-season-4-1080p/1#video=x1plun4 . It should bring you to a playlist of all Season 4 episodes, uploaded in 1080p quality. This is a bit of a belated welcome, but better now than never: Welcome to the forums my friend, have fun, and brony on!

"Java Gaming Experts" I wouldn't be surprised if that's what it meant. But they did claim once in a news post on their website that it stood for "Just about the gaming experience." Could be a backronym, though, as in, an acronym created in retrospect, or it could've just been a lie, I dunno. I remember the post was about how they were removing all references to the member game from the free-to-play game. Which they did. And I liked that update. Fast forward a few years in the future, and it's just like, wow Jagex, wow... They must have undergone significant staff changes with their developers or something, because it's not just the game that's changed, it's the company's whole philosophy. They used to actually not care, at least not as much as most game developing companies, about whether certain updates would make them more money. They just wanted to provide a good game for people to enjoy. But now.... NOW... Well, things have changed now. -
My favourites, in no particular order, and reasons for liking them: Recess—had a very memorable instrumental music opening Monty Python's Flying Circus—same reason as above Cheers—cause how could you not like that song? Adventure Time—because it basically summarizes the show in a very simple and concise way, and is very well animated.

Metal or rock I guess. I think any kind of music 24/7 though I'd get sick of eventually. I'd want some variation. But, if I had to choose I'd say metal.

I think Runescape used to be fantastic, but not so much anymore. It's okay if you like it, but I really don't like how they basically got rid of the elements that made it a unique game different than other MMORPGs, stole a bunch of ideas from WoW (mainly with the new combat system), and basically made it just like any other MMORPG. Also, the free-to-play version used to be awesome, but now it seems more like just an advertizement for the Member game, which is something they had said they'd never do. "Jagex" supposedly stands for "Just about the gaming experience" but it seems like they're waaay too much after money now. Although, I am considering becoming a member just to be able to play on the "Oldschool Runescape" servers, in which you can actually play the game as it was in August 2007. Personally, I'd rather go back to '08 or '09 Runescape, but hey, I wouldn't mind '07, and I'd definitely prefer it to the current game. Just thought I'd share my opinion, not to say anything against yours of course. -
Welcome, friend! I hope you enjoy the forums. Fluttershy is best pony and Octavia is pretty awesome, so I like you already. Nice username, by the way.

My thoughts as I saw this thread title, clicked on it, and watched the video: first brony, yeah sure, I doubt that... *reads title of video* huh, I wonder when this was uploaded... "July 26, 2010" *watches video* HOLY CRAP BRONY PROPHET WHAT IS THIS WITCHCRAFT Yeah, I'd say this is the first brony. I'm sure there were guy fans of the previous generations before him, but if "brony" is referring specifically to G4, this guy is probably actually the first, since he's actually excited and looking forwards to the show, which I'd say qualifies him as a brony.

mega thread Ever meet any other Bronies in RL?
User07832407840 replied to Twiliscael's topic in Sugarcube Corner
Well, I haven't met any bronies since I became one (which was only in March of this year), but I remember a couple years ago someone at my school mentioned he was a brony. I don't remember the context or who he was talking to, but at the time I had absolutely no idea what that meant. I didn't even know that there was a My Little Pony cartoon show. I only found out about any of this earlier this year. After I became a brony, I remembered what he said and understood. Then I saw him share a song he made, one which was instrumental (and very good, too) on Facebook, and in the comments someone asked what was the inspiration for the song, and he said it was inspired by something that is alluded to often in a TV show he watches. Then he described, without actually saying specifically that it was MLP he was talking about, the scenario that I recognized as the Celestia/Luna conflict that is described in the opening episode of MLP. So I looked him up on YouTube, found out that he had made many more MLP inspired songs, and mentioned in the YouTube comments who I was and that I had become a brony. Then he messaged me on Facebook, "Holy crap." So then we talked a bit about MLP, I told him I really liked his music, he advised me not to join any MLP community/forum sites (he used to be a mod on MLPF but quit since he couldn't deal with all the stress and hate-messages he got from being a mod) which I went ahead and did anyways (no regrets!). So, yeah, that was that. -
I think some people think it promotes racism because of Applejack being darker coloured and having to labour and work while Rarity's job has no physical effort in it, and also because Celestia is white. The idea that MLP:FIM is racist, though, is completely wrong and stupid. In terms of the ponies colour, the show does not support supremacy of lighter colours (like some people have actually claimed) because Twilight Sparkle is the main protagonist and Princess Celestia's student and she's as dark a colour as Applejack. Celestia is white whereas Luna is black because day time is lighter and nighttime is darker, it's as simple as that, and also the colour white has traditionally been used to symbolize Good and Purity and whatnot. There's nothing at all racist about any of that. In terms of allegations of racism regarding the actual races of ponies (people say, how come Earth Ponies have to do tough work like working on farms while Unicorns get easy jobs), this is also wrong; all the ponies, regardless of their race, just do what they're best suited to do. They do what they are talented at. The Apple family is very good at working the fields, and they love it too. They're not being oppressed by some higher power and being forced to do it. They want to. Is the fact that no Earth Ponies can have a job in controlling the weather or have a good chance at becoming one of Celestia's protégé racist? Absolutely not, because it's only a matter of the biological limitations of the Earth Ponies. But some people don't see it this way, probably because they are looking at the pony society not objectively but imposing aspects of our own society onto it, thinking that since racism exists in our world, it must exist there too and thinking that there's something objectively wrong about there being certain jobs and positions that certain ponies can't hold due to their race. This thought comes from the understandable belief that there is always something wrong with any situation in which there are certain jobs/positions that certain humans are not allowed to hold because of their race. Of course it's (almost always) wrong in the case of humans because there's not that many physical differences between the races of humans, but people need to realize that this is not the case for ponies, because the races of ponies do have significant physical differences. P.S., in case you're wondering, I said "almost always" there because of situations like, for example, in casting for a play or movie, where it's not racist to look specifically for a certain race for a particular character, especially if it's based on an actual historical person or is very important in the context of the play. If a director is casting only a certain race when the context of the play makes this unnecessary and there are other, more qualified people who auditioned who were not selected because of their race, this, on the other hand, would be racist.

What age are you a loser if you haven't kissed anyone?
User07832407840 replied to RainbowMau's topic in General Discussion
There's no reasonable logic behind the idea that not having kissed anyone makes you a loser. I think that's just an idea that comes from society and what you learn growing up, but if you just stop and think about it for a bit you'll realize it makes no sense. At least, I see no logical connection between being a loser and not having kissed anyone. I haven't had a first kiss or a girlfriend, and I don't consider myself a loser. I'm 18. And I know plenty of other people my age and older (such as my cousin, and she's 24) who haven't either, and they're definitely not losers. -
Oh, yeah I read that, and I can see why you'd be mad at it if that happened to you. It may not have been BB's intentions to portray the brony fandom negatively, but I guess that doesn't prevent some people, like your dad, from getting the wrong idea about bronies because of that episode. That's too bad. But on the bright side, at least the differences between the Equesticles/Equestranaughts and the Brony fandom are so extreme that it probably wouldn't be too hard to convince someone who's reasonable and willing to listen that bronies are not like the Equesticles at all. However, if that person is not willing to listen or be reasonable, then that really sucks... I hope your dad doesn't think you're like the Equesticles now.

So I haven't had a super awkward moment yet, but the most awkward moment I have had was probably when I was at a store and saw that they had these cute little 4 inch Pony plushies (made by the company Aurora), and since I had already bought 3 of those at a different store a couple weeks ago, I of course had to get the other 3 to complete the Mane 6. So I picked out the ones I still needed and was holding the 3 while waiting in an aisle while my brother was looking for something else, when this one lady, who looked maybe in her early twenties, walks by the opening of the aisle and looks and sees me holding these 3 little ponies. She looks at the ponies. Then she looks at my shirt, which had a silhouette of Rainbow Dash on it. Then she looks back at the ponies. Looks back at my shirt. Continues walking. I wasn't embarrassed, but it was probably the most awkward brony moment I've had so far.
