  1. Ordering the episodes in linear order may be one way to go about answering this question.  I took another tack and actually counted the number of days we see pass in each episode.  I even made a spreadsheet describing my findings:

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AH14vROkzJcO1cnfJNXCjiSA7xFnUoT3baxBxPtk8Ck/edit?usp=sharing

I then created and released a few videos on this subject:  https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLulssWdh9XqKuhJFHrnyZMcIcMSWDZwI6

Basically, about 230 days were observed to pass in the episodes of Seasons 1-3.  Understandably not every day would be covered in an episode so, if a year were to contain 365 days like our universe, then stating about a year has elapsed does make sense.  Especially when you take into account:

    1. Only two Summer Sun Celebrations are seen to pass, an event that occurs once a year
    2. It's stated in Ticket Master that the Apple Family Reunion is also an annual event, one was seen to occur in the first episode of the show and the second occurred late in Season 3

There are a number of other little hints as well.  But again, one cannot definitively say a year in Equestria is 365 days (though we can say how long a second is, how many seconds are in a minute, how many minutes are in an hour, how many hours are in a day, and even how many days are in a week...)

Anyway, just some of my thoughts on the subject.

  2. We've seen pigs in the show and they do seem to be treated kinda like livestock.  But the question I have is: WHY?  Why would the ponies have livestock?  Cows sort of make sense, because for some reason the ponies drink milk, and they've been seen to also eat eggs.  But why pigs?  Thinking of it sorta hurts my head lol

  3.

My name is Lance Mason, I'm a professional dating coach and pickup-artist.  I've been in the buisness for many years, and have recently steeled down and got married to a beautiful woman I am proud to call my wife.  I had discovered MLP back in January, and over the months I've acquired many friends in this community.  I am part of the analysis community, and also the music community.  One of the people that have been by my side since the begging is Vida Pony.  I want to thank Vida for introducing me to this site, and I want to give a big shout out to Corpulent Brony as well!  If anybody has any questions or just want's to chat, feel free to do so.

Thanks for the kind words Lance!  /)

  4. I greatly enjoyed this video, both for the content and the delivery. In addition to the amusing intro and excellent synopsis, I like how you covered both sides of the moral and tied it to the real world as well as talking about the more pony relevant side. How you presented the video was, at least to me, interesting, and I want to watch more of these reviews. Good stuff.

Wow, thanks!  That's one of the best reviews any of my videos ever received!  I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

  5. I watched the WHOLE thing :D

I must say, you make some excellent points - I was a bit skeptical, given this is a video from someone I've never heard of in regards to the analyst community, which receives a lot of criticism in of itself :D I didn't know what to expect of the quality of this video, but this is anything better than Digi has put out, to be honest - maybe because you don't sound bored to tears and have some charisma as well as making points that seem to be objective rather than subjective claiming to be objective.

I will say, however, that the analyst community has been stupidly over-critical lately - the show isn't flawless, and some episodes do suck, including some from the recent seasons - but, the thing is, from what I see, is that there's no more bad episodes in S4 than there are in S1 and S2 - people are just becoming overly critical about every single episode, when, even though criticisms are good and actually somewhat needed, some of these episodes aren't as bad as they're being made out to be - I still find S4 to have the same quality as S1 and S2 did, so I don't know what's up with this nonsense.

Excellent video, though - far better than what I was initially expecting :D

You also make some excellent points.  But I think an analyst should be able to analyze the show without being overly critical of the decisions the writers make, instead leaving that job up to the critics or reviewers.  And us little-known upstart analysts do make some quality stuff, especially since we have to eke out every view and don't get the automatic ones Digi et al get :)  Plus, not speaking for Looney Turtle, but I'm a perfectionist (I think he is too).  And being older than most and holding a day job in an analytical role gives me a more unique perspective sometimes, I think.

  6. When you start walking down the predestination road, it leads only to despair and tragedy.  If you were aware your life was predestined, then all ambition would perforce be purloined from everypony in perpetuity.  There'd no longer be any reason to wake up and do anything, because, after all, nothing you do would matter.

    To the OPs original points:

As regards names, I have some theories on that which I was saving for a future analysis video, but briefly I believe it may be customary for most unicorns to change their names once their cutie mark reveals itself.  Thus Rarity may not have been Rarity before receiving her cutie mark.  I know the big hole there is that in the flashback from Cutie Mark Chronicles, Rarity is called "Rarity," by her teacher I believe.  But I keep in mind that this is a story Rarity is telling to others, to use her old name with which I am sure none of the CMC are familiar would just cause confusion.  Thus the flashback scenes were non-diegetic (heh).  Or Rarity may simply have changed her name because she wished to distance herself from her parents (Sisterhoove's Social).

Story and legend pervade our culture and, I am sure, the culture of Equestria.  The fact legend stated the Mare in the Moon would escape in 1,000 years is immaterial, how does Twilight even know exactly a thousand years have elapsed?  Today, in most of Western culture, the birth of a man about 2,000 years ago is commonly celebrated, but the exact date of his birth is not known, as the facts have been clouded through the mists of time.  Surely the same could be said of the exact date Celestia imprisoned Luna?  The only one who may answer this is Celestia herself.

The story of the Cutie Mark Chronicles is just a happy coincidence, not necessarily fate.  Just because the appearance of the mane six's cutie marks shared an origin does not necessarily mean it was preordained, rather it could have easily been some strange sort of non-deterministic form of fate that fueled our fillys' friendships.

It's a great question to ask, and one which is fun to examine.

  7. From best to least best:

    1. Twilight's Kingdom - Fantastically epic, great songs, wonderful plot, rainbow power, and lots of Twilight Sparkle.

    2. Princess Twilight Sparkle - Provided further depth to Equestria's history with the key scenes showing Nightmare Moon and Discord, along with the Tree of Harmony.  Also, Twilight Sparkle.

    3. Testing Testing 1 2 3 - Twiley and Dashie make a great on-screen team, they're hilarious together and half this episode featured the two of them.  The rest was full of cuteness, from the animal show to Pinkie's rap to Rarity's costume show.  It was a really fun episode.  Also, Twilight Sparkle.

    4. Twilight Time - Not usually a CMC fan, still this did seem to advance their cutie mark arc (and perhaps in directions different than what was originally hinted at in The Show Stoppers).  Also, Twilight Sparkle.

    5. Daring Don't - This was a really fun episode, and I loved the chance to explore tropes from the Indiana Jones franchise.  Daring Do was awesome as a character, and I hope to see more of her adventures in the future...or read about them in the soon-to-be-released book :)

  8.

Actually, this cartoon has always had a lot of G1 one in it. A many elements from the G1 pilot, Rescue From Midnight Castle, made their way into the G4 opener.

-Several of the featured ponies, namely Twilight, Firefly, and Applejack, are direct predecessors of the Mane 6.

    -Spike!  :P

-The home of the troll the ponies get the rainbow from serves as the model for Twilight's library.

-A villain who wishes to bring about eternal night.

-A rainbow used to defeat said villain.

There are a few more connections too but I can't recall them off the top of my head.

Not exactly but you're on the right path. This was a nod to the original Firefly.

I believe you meant the Moochick and not a troll?  lol he's a wizard who lives in the mushroom forest.  Trolls live under bridges!

I myself have noticed the fandom as a whole appears to be tentatively embracing elements from G1 more and more.  It's gone from something modern day bronies abhor to the butt of some jokes to now providing the bad assest villain the show has seen.  I think if the trend continues we could see some interesting elements from G1 continue to appear (Smooze anypony?)

  9. Hi! That was quite the process, you becoming the brony you are today—I guess this is, like, step 7, haha. Well I hope you enjoy being part of the community here and have a fun time. Brohoof!

Yes, it's been a long process, but I guess I was a brony since the first episode I watched, or perhaps before that, even though I couldn't admit it to myself /)

Hello, and welcome to the forums!

You know you're into pony when you replace girl with "mare" and "everybody" with "everypony." That does take some dedication that I do not have myself.

    Anyways, have fun here!

    Brohoof /)

Well yes, I try to keep things pony when I can.  (\

  10. My Favourite Mane 6 Pony: Twilight Sparkle

How did you find MLP Forums?: I've heard about them for a while, but a link sent to me from a friend reminded me of them!

How you became a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: It was a multistep process:1. Marefriend forces me to watch FiM with her.2. I begin to remind marefriend we need to watch pony show.3. I begin insisting that we watch the pony show, and begin watching on my own.4. I deny that I am a brony.5. I accept my love of ponies and embrace being a brony.6. I begin making analysis videos about ponies on YouTube. This was not a quick process, mind you...from beginning to end, it took about 2 years.

I'm one of the older bronies I know (nearly mid-30s), have too many pets, hold down a full-time job as an analyst (non-pony), and go to college part-time because...why not?  In what little free time that remains to me, I take my analysis skills and apply them to making videos about ponies.

What more can I say?  My life is now centered on these colorful equines.

Oh, also, I now pledge fidelity to the purple pulchritudinous poindexter pony princess, Twilight Sparkle!  Long may she reign!
