      I remember when this forum barely temp-locked forums. When it got bad, sometimes the mods would lock it permanently.

       

      As what Simon says (:P), temp-locking warns members to keep things civil. ^^

      As for the concerns about it interrupting the flow of conversation, while I completely understand where you're coming from, you also have to understand that debate pit is not exempt from any rules, and in fact is moderated more closely than other sections.
