  1. People need to stop being reactive and instead be more proactive, as in working on ways to get around this. One, people can get a VPN. Two, if worse comes to worse, websites can block access in the EU completely so people can get such VPN. The fandom can also make their own decentralized platform if they so wish.

Also, EU member nations can interpret the directive anyway they wish. If anything, they don't have to enforce it. Some countries are even working against it.

  2. This also needs to be said. No matter which site you operate on, you should never put all your eggs in one basket. That's why you need to have backup sites, because stuff like this is bound to happen. Now all the Tumblr exclusive users are learning this the hard way.

  3. To me, MLP as a whole (the show and the fandom) offers escapism like no other. How ponies are such an alternative to humans (and traditional anthro characters for that matter) with their flavored personalities, simple designs and expressiveness. There are unlimited possibilities for stories about them, from simple slice of life stories to epic adventures. Plus, the world of MLP is pretty much a blank canvas, so there are virtually limitless possibilities for worldbuilding, canon and fanon.

This isn't about the nsfw content, but rather about how I suddenly realized that a significant chunk of the fandom can disappear at any point in time, and I want to prevent that.

The worst part about it is that this is a sign of what's yet to come. This won't be the only kind of thing to happen, cause in the coming years, other sites may follow suit. It wouldn't just take out portions of the fandom, but all fandoms. Fandom work has a right to exist, because it is a beacon of creativity and offers entertainment and escapism that no original media (whether it be novels, films, TV shows, anime, comic books, video games, etc) can provide. Plus that fan works aren't made by professional writers, filmmakers, or developers, but ordinary people who either go to school or work 9 to 5 jobs.

If parents have an issue with this, there are already lots of solutions to the problem. You don't see HBO being held accountable if a kid switches their station on at the wrong moment. And you would think by now that they could have AI figure out what is or isn't explicit.

But still... this feels like that typical mentality of where even the finite chance of a snafu has to be prevented, like all halloween candy being checked before eating (even though all such incidents involve poisoning by a family member in the same house) or all buses having to stop at tracks after one incident with a train. This fear has trickled all the way down to redefining what childhood is, with the elimination of unsupervised ANYTHING. Parents don't even have a choice a lot of the time. Kid playing in the yard without a parent watching? "Helpful" neighbor calls the cops and accuses you of neglect, when just two decades ago kids could go on adventures in the woods alone without causing a shred of anxiety. The loudest argument against genderless public bathrooms is child safety. Sorry... bit of a tangent rant. But our desire for 'security' is definitely out of control right now.

There's something unsettling about a battle like this happening so late in Tumblr's lifespan. Starbucks just started blocking Pornhub last week, and for them that's kind of shocking.

Are we seeing the start of a massive censorship movement? Frack I hope not. I don't use Tumblr, I don't even care about porn, and this still ticks me off.

The fact that net neutrality is gone and Article 13 is on the verge of being passed doesn't help either. We are one step closer towards having a totally stripped down internet. On top of that, artistic creativity will be severely limited. I tell you, when the 2020s come along, the internet will be completely different, and in the worst possible way.

This is why we need to push for a decentralized web now more than ever, so we can escape from the overregulation from governments and corporations.

Judging from the comments thus far, it's fair to say that Tumblr could be making a very big mistake. My opinion? I don't really use Tumblr so this doesn't affect me at all but I know that others will be affected by this.

Yeah, but I'm sure a lot of the art you've seen on there was posted on Tumblr. Even if all MLP porn is banned there, at least it's still on Derpibooru.

I stopped asking for more male characters knowing G4 already have a good amount of both male and female characters. But I don't mind male characters as the main, just as long they don't add romance and gender-bend.

I'd be fine with romance as long as there's good chemistry. I'd like to see G5 cover more genres besides SoL, Comedy, and Adventure like G4.

I would like for G5 to have more male characters, granted that they are well-written. I think the main cast should always be female-dominated, as part of the show's identity is 'girl power' and appealing to young girls. So long as they would not be putting in more male characters just for the sake of it and giving young girls admirable male models to feel inspired by, I think that would be pretty cool. :)

To me that's all that matters, and I'm perfectly fine with still having a female dominated cast.

There's also the possibility that Chrysalis was a rogue changeling princess who built her own hive under false information.

Let's remember that, l when Starlight told Chrysalis there was another way to avoid love hunger (accepting a giving out one's love), Chrysalis refused said method as if she had known all along that it was possible to metamorphosize with love. Only her servants were surprised at Starlight's revelation.

Should other changeling hives exist, there's a chance for them to be a metamorphosized society.

Even then, I don't think ALL changeling hives have to be metamorphosed.

  10. Ok, so all the changelings who transformed were ruled under Chrysalis. Even, then, not all of them were instantly transformed. It begs the question, what other changeling queens or kings are out there that potentially have even bigger changelings kingdoms, and non that have been transformed like the ones under Chrysalis? It would show that not all changelings are as they are now and are still black with holes.

While the Mane 6 have been referred to as the Elements of Harmony, the heroes they looked up to and ultimately met in Shadow Play seem to referred to as the Pillars (I like to refer to them as the Pillars of Heroism). I'm all for the idea of the Young 6 getting their own sets of elements and personally I think they should be known as the Students of Unity, Unity referring to the fact that they have formed such a close bond despite coming from different homes.

The Skullivan has written a fantastic editorial on Equestria Daily talking about the Young 6 and how each of their personalities relate to the Elements. Here is a link to the article below. Please read it, since it was really well written.

    https://www.equestriadaily.com/2018/10/overanalyze-this-new-elements-of-harmony.html

Now when considering what these kids get to represent, I thought of their personalities and how they could work as a parallel to the Elements of Harmony and the Pillars of Heroism. Here's what I think their Elements would be.

    Silversteam as Wonder

    Yona as Pride

    Ocellus as Knowledge

    Sandbar as Wisdom

    Smolder as Compassion

    Gallus as Friendship

That'd be fine, I just don't want the Young 6 to end up replacing the Mane 6 as the Elements of Harmony bearers.

I wouldn't mind a few more male main characters, but I think that having mostly female main cast is one of the features that define this series, and I'd rather have it stay this way instead of shifting to 50/50 or so.

Yes that is true. There are still some male characters that could appear frequently, like the CMC.

This is a question phrased wrongly. Gender and race should only be selected to support or elevate a character. You should strive to create a compelling character without these attributes, and if delving into the character you find that it makes sense to be a female or male, you go with that.  Otherwise going with some pulled-from-the-air number is basically an arbitrary assignment of charactistics that can limit your creation.

I'm not saying we should have them just for the sake of having them, it would just be nice to have some diversity (not talking about the SJW kind) in the cast.

  14. Since G4 had a dominant female cast, do you think G5 should increase the number of female characters? I'm not just talking about minor characters like Big Mac and Shining Armor, but I mean ones who would get more screen time. If Hasbro is going to want to appeal to a wider audience, then I think it would be reasonable if they did that. It would also be a good way for fans to create more straight ships since people don't have to keep resorting to lesbian ships like with G4.
