    I think that G1 is good for the toys (I collect them! ). But G4 is better with the storyline and character distinction.

    I think it's because Fluttershy is good with animals, so they thought she'd be good for the job? I think that Rarity should've at least offered to help reform Discord (Being the element of generosity after all ) But otherwise Magic, Loyalty, Honesty and Laughter isn't going to help Discord as much as Kindness! (Okay, maybe Loyalty. )
