  1. Coming from the perspective of someone who wouldn't really call himself a brony these days (I haven't watched since season 5) I would say yes but I've been in worse. Nearly all the people I knew online or in real life who were into it back during it's heyday (so 2012 and 2013) have all moved on and don't even bring it up anymore. This can be pinned down to a number of factors (I plan to make a whole video on it) that I won't get into here (wanna save them for said video). Although unlike a lot of people here I do believe G5 could bring back a lot of the old members. I'm not sure what the policy towards leaks is around here so I won't talk about it (you can message me if you want to hear about that). I'll never forget those days.
  2. I watched the Christmas special and I thought it was alright. Doesn't quite match the pre-season 5 stuff but still real good. I'll look at saddle row as I saw season 5 back in 2015.
  3. It's nice to see you haven't changed after all these years. I have thought about giving the second era of FIM another shot but that's another 100+ episodes to go through. I think I'll just wait for 2020. Maybe I'll watch an episode or two of the newer seasons and see how it holds up. Is there any episode I can watch where I don't need prior context to understand it?
  4. Well that is true. Still I do believe those were the final 5 design choices. We'll see what happens and which gets picked. Keep an eye on comic-con I think some announcements might be made there.
  5. But of the ones that have been proposed none of them look like they would fit into gravity falls or Steven Universe. I'm also pretty sure they wanted this version to be edgier so I don't think going for that style would work with the tone of this new show. That or there are a new round of leaks I am not aware of where plans have changed.
  6. There is leaked concept art that you can find online. I won't post it here but you can see it for yourself. None of the proposed designs match the calarts or tumblr style. G5 is in good hands.
  7. I have to agree with this. MLP was literally everywhere just 5 years ago now. I've mentioned it to people in their 60s and they know about my little pony and it's fanbase. It's been pushed into it's own little subsection for a couple reasons. I'd say this is due to the fact that most fanbases survive as part of bigger collections of communities (tumblr, twitter, etc) whereas the MLP fanbase used to be so big that it created several dedicated websites to it which (as the numbers diminished) caused MLP to pretty much disappear off the face of the planet. If bronies (I hate using that term now) were more integrated with other websites I imagine it would be more relevant today.
  8. Based on the info so far they want to take G5 in a more mature direction. I'm sure this can be done (especially given who is working on it) and that this can be done well. My hope is that it will be similar to how Faust initially envisioned FIM. However history has shown that sometimes when creators try to take things in a darker direction they can try way too hard and pull off themes and plot points which make no sense and are simply used to show off how "adult" their content is. Although based on what I've read I'm not seeing any signs of that from the writing team itself so things should be ok. I imagine we'll get more finalised and official information on G5 during the next comic con.
  9. It really depends on G5. Contrary to popular belief fandoms can indeed die. I'm in one right now (bionicle) and the chances of that making a come-back are slim to nil. If G5 fails to impress then I think that over time the current MLP fanbase will just shrink and shrink until it ceases to exist. However if G5 does impress then I actually predict a resurgence for it. With what I'm hearing about it it actually seems to want to win back the lost fans. So it can either way.
  10. Didn't think I would be back this quickly. Well seeing as G5 speculation has already begun I guess it's time to get involved in the long build up to it's eventual release. Anyway as far as I can tell the current mane 6 characters are all due for a comeback so I doubt their names are changing. Those are now iconic characters so it wouldn't make sense to change their names. As for other characters I'm not sure why that is a specific aim of the crew working on G5. I mean names like Tirek, discord, Chrysalis were already very fantasy oriented. Either way I have no problem with it. And as far as I know the new gen is aimed at a much broader audience as Hasbro knows it can sell to a much broader audience. My only concern regarding this direction is that the team will try too hard to make things dark and edgy which might compromise the appeal of the new show. I'm ok with a more mature tone but I ask that they not drop terms like "cutie mark" or "friendship power" or all the horse puns. That was part of the charm of the current gen. They could say all this stuff which would sound completely stupid in normal conversation but we all took it seriously.
  11. Alright I'll post again in about a year (it depends on when Hasbro release official info regarding gen 5). In the mean time if anyone wishes to contact me I will leave my discord username on this profile. I accept all friend requests.

Thanks for sharing your discord. Enjoy your break from the forums.

  12. I only enjoy it in during season 1-4. Beyond that I just didn't care. I'll be 21 by the time G5 is released and in a less vulnerable position. If it does a create a second wave of bronies (as I predict) then I'll probably go and buy merch this time.
  13. Again re-watching the show put that shame to rest for me. There was nothing wrong with what I did.
  14. Sorry if you interpreted my comment in the wrong way. I've actually just published a much more positive blog.

  15. We all know the story of the modern my little pony fanbase. An unexpected and once monumental fanbase that dominated the internet during 2012 and 2013 respectively. The fanbase known for a huge amount of 13-30 year old males has seemingly disappeared from the mainstream and is now but a memory of a very strange time. I was one of those people who used to love it. At the age of 13 in 2012 I watched an episode and the rest is history. Up until 2015 I loved MLP. But during season 5 I lost interest and started to look elsewhere. For the longest time I could never figure this out. In my search for answers the first one I came to was that the fanbase had ruined it for me. Then over time I came to the conclusion that it was never good to begin with and that I and everyone else involved were getting in on a trend and deluded ourselves to believe it was good. My actual problem couldn't be further from the truth. MY PROBLEM My actual problem was that the show I liked had simply ended. A youtuber talked about this in depth and explained that seasons 1-4 was pretty much it's own separate show from seasons 5 and onward. Seasons 1 through 4 were dedicated to the development of the main characters established in season 1. By season 4 this process (with the exception of the CMC) was over. Season 5 and onward has been about these new characters that I simply do not care about. Truth of the matter is that MLP seasons 1-4 was actually a pretty good television programme that was loved for good reason. MY EXPERIENCE The reason I adopted the "it was a fad" idea was simply down to the shame I felt due to watching it. Internally my defence for it lasted all throughout my interest in it. I started to feel shame once I had been away from it for some time. And let me tell you, the judgement from other people was awful. I could take a little bit of teasing about it (hell I'd even joke about it myself a little). But that doesn't excuse how other people acted over it. I lost two friends to this hobby. Two people actively rejected me due to liking MLP. To add to that my family weren't exactly nice about it either. I recently came to the realisation that my mother had actually attempted to stop me watching it on one occasion. Since I let go of this interest we haven't talked about it since. Hell there have been occasions where I've mentioned my little pony and they quickly like to change the subject (most likely due to shame of having a son/brother who was into that). I won't claim we needed a rights movement or anything but some very socially conservative people genuinely would hate you for watching it. I wanted to buy merch but now you can see why I never had the guts to do it. On a lighter note having re-watched the earlier episodes I feel completely ok about what I did. I liked my little pony: friendship is magic... and that was ok. THE FUTURE It has come to my attention that a generation 5 of MLP is in development. Without spoiling anything I will say I am digging the ideas brought up and do believe it could make MLP a trend again. Maybe not to quite the extent as in 2012/13 but it could get close. In the run up to it's launch and when more official info comes out I may well become active around here again. If you still remember me I hope you all know that I do not hold anything against you people and your hobby and want to thank you for letting me be involved. And I hope that in the near future I may be involved again.
  16. 2 years and I finally realised you were right. I've re-watched some of the earlier and I've quickly realised what my problem was it. It had nothing to do with the fanbase it was the show itself.
  17. Oh wow. Looking back I really wish I could delete nearly everything I've said here.

Just all the dumb posts I made, the overreactions, the fanboying, possibly at one point taking part in brony analysis type stuff. It's just a look back at my dumb mid-teen self.

Don't you think it's cool, though? How you've grown in respect to that? I think it's neat

Oh hello again. To be fair I thought a lot of stupid shit at that time. For example at one point I believed that "teh feminazis were gonna take muh games". It's just that this is a record of everything stupid I've said that can be freely accessed.

Oh no! Buttercup has slightly different hair!!

  19. How? When has Applebloom displayed any real sense of intelligence or leadership. Alright she may be the leader but she just doesn't have the confidence that Blossom did. And I don't get how Sweetie Belle has anything in common with Blossom. Unless you mean Bubbles which even then I don't think they're like each other. Is Sweetie particularly cutesy? Is she the most child like? Can't say I think she is. And the only thing I think Scootaloo and Buttercup have in common is the fact they both have deep voices.
  20. Yeah I'd say it does rely on stereotypes. Seeing as it largely revolves around: A cute boy Having parties (like real ones) Being popular And pretty dresses (and the dresses provide nothing to the plot)
  21. The line "FiM came when the stars and the planets where at the right formation at the right time." Seems to suggest that a G5 show would not succeed. Unless I'm misreading that and you're saying that it won't be as popular then I completely understand.
  22. Well could you please explain why G5 will just never achieve any popularity among older fans and why the fanbase will just forget about FIM's existence.
  23. While you are correct that FIM will end, I can't say your G5 statement is likely to be true. Hasbro make a lot of money off of MLP. For that reason I highly doubt they'd go such a long time without giving some form of continuation. And they will want a show to promote said toys. So I can say it's highly likely that a G5 show will premier within at least 5 years of FIM ending. And G5 will get attention. Yes whilst FIM's popularity was largely a chance event on 4chan MLP is now associated with the word "good". People won't just forget about after it ends. Plus when taking into account the fact that people are inclined to see reiterations of things they've seen before I can promise you that bronies will at least look into G5. May I suggest you watch Steven Universe or Wonder over Yonder? Those are really good (and in my opinion better then MLP).
  24. The only thing I see that's similar is the eyes. The powerpuff girls wear more casual clothing whilst the power ponies wear full on superhero suits.
