In high school I did that, and if I am not careful I have the tendency to do that myself. The trouble with fictional characters, is that you can very easily project your ideal romance, friendship, or any other type of relationship onto that character. The irony of this is that people who do this without thinking of the consequences actually make a new character that never existed even in the book, show or what have you.
