There is no diference in reading "paper&ink" books or (good, edited, cleaned, revised) fanfiction.
Check Fimfiction.net for extra pony content (search with your favorite character as a tag; looking for the best ones based on the lenght [short & completed], likes vs dislikes ratio [high] and comments [lots]).

As a general recomendation: Never try to "translate" english words or phrases (usually they do not have a "proper sense" on their origin, like with greek and latin based languages).
Instead, look for "crude descriptions" of those words ( urbandictionary ) or searching for that word in the wikipedia in english ; and then "switching" to the same article in the wikipedia of your language.
