  1. happy birthday solecitoc

  2. This always seemed like a good song to me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TuuIs8qKl5I *edit: found a slightly easier to see version
  3. It's raising money for ALS (a nerve disorder I believe, in which you slowly lose function until you die). You get nominated to pour a bucket of ice water on yourself or donate to the foundation ( they say 'or' but everyone usually does both he challenge and donation) and then nominate 3 others to do it as well. It's raised a lot of money very quickly. Just asking for donations probably wouldn't have worked as well, but people love a good dare. *according to the website ALSA.org, ALS is "Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease," is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed."
  4. Ah! Okie doke, no problem C: As far as design goes, I like it. The colors aren't too crazy, and go well together. I like the bit of fluffiness you added to the chest. The cutie mark doesn't look too complicated either. I don't know the personality or backstory yet, but so far you are doing really well!
  5. If there was supposed to be a picture or link, it's not showing.
  6. So cute! I love her little ghosty neckhole thing!
  7. The Prince of Egypt. I loved it as a kid, and love it even more now. One thing I did not appreciate enough as a kid is that holy wow the characters are all actually BROWN. Thank you Dreamworks for not making them white and vaguely english like everyone else does.
  8. That is one thing I find a little off in mlp, not that they can really help it. Many ponies' names have a lot to do with the talent they possess or their cutie mark (obviously for marketing reasons and to make them more identifiable in the show). At some points it's pretty predictable. Oh, your name's Luna? I just wonder what you'll end up doing. Yeah, no clue there at all. It would make more sense if they didn't get their matching/themed name until they got a cutie mark, or if some ponies got a name change later in life to match their talent. Eh, it would make more sense, but not necessarily a better idea/practice.
  9. One thing we must remember is that a cutie mark does not appear until the pony realizes that a certain thing is their special talent. For example, Twist (in the episode Call of the Cutie) was already great at making sweets. She didn't get her cutie mark until she considered that it was her special talent. One does not just get a cutie mark and become coerced to perform the tasks related to it- they got the mark because it's already something they do and love to do. I find I also disagree with your comments relating the cutie mark as a drug to the ponies, and that it can cause a 'high' and withdrawal as well. People get satisfaction from doing the things they love, and want to continue to do those things because they enjoy it. It's called intrinsic motivation. Of course, there is also extrinsic motivation (motivation outside of oneself, ie rewards or acceptance) due to the societal views of a cutie mark. There's no doubt about that. Because your cutie mark is supposed to represent your special talent- the thing you do better than anyone else and have a deep passion for- there are expectations on what a person does with theirs occupation-wise and such. I think most of the ponies' breakdowns are because they are supposed to be experts at what they do (or at least on their way there). Since these are their special talents, they expect to automatically be great at them all the time. When it doesn't go that way, they can get defensive, aggressive, or have a personal crisis. Pinky's upset when another party pony comes to town because she doesn't want to be one-upped, and at another time has a breakdown when she believes that her friends don't want to party with her. Fluttershy doesn't instantly connect with the critters at the gala. Their talents have worked for them all the time up til then, so it's understandable that they can't handle it when the one thing they excel at above all others all the time fails. And it's a crushing blow to their self esteem to fail at your calling. Forgive the analogy, but it's like a spoiled child getting denied what they want for the first time in their life. They don't know how to react other than negatively, explosively even. I don't think the cutie marks have some sort of dark power over ponies, but rather that the treatment and lifestyle of those with cutie marks relies too heavily on them and notion that their talent will always work in every circumstance.
  10. It actually sounds like a pretty interesting idea. Personally, I like it sometimes when they change up the dynamics- if fanfic was meant to adhere to canon, there'd be a lot less of it around.
  11. Hooked on a Feeling by Blue Swede (Guardians of the Galaxy has such an addicting soundtrack)
  12. I guess this doesn't really count since it's a book, but Lord of the Flies messed me up, and that's usually assigned for middle school aged kids to read. It's pretty graphic, with the kids' deaths and their torture of that pig. Eugh,a classic, but nightmarish.
  13. I think the standards are always changing. Back in the '80s, a PG rated movie could show breasts (multiple times, whether it's the actresses baring themselves or just pictures/posters on the set) and be completely acceptable. We may just be moving into a time where excessive gore and violence is deemed not as much of a big deal. There are kids who watch or play things far above their 'maturity level' even when they're not supposed to,so most people probably figure it's not worth censoring as much anymore.
  14. I like the animation style of G4, but I wish they would have incorporated more stuff from G1 (all the different pony types, etc) but hopefully they might do that in G5 when it comes around
  15. Pony's name: Squeaky Clean (my userame is Solecistic Miss) pose: Awkward greeting references: http://solecisticmiss.deviantart.com/art/Germaphobe-476129991 http://i1370.photobucket.com/albums/ag247/solecisticmiss/71f165cc-e15f-42aa-9c56-b42fe60fdcee.png cutie mark is a shiny whistle: *For some reason you have to refresh the deviantart link to get it to work, but I promise it's there
