Hi there, my crowd!  Why is this weekly summary late? ... I forgot. Sorry!

 Nothing major happened in the week we just finished, other than Daylight Savings. Curse this wretched tradition... 

 There were some trailers dropped, but nothing worth talking about too much. Somehow Megamind got a sequel and a TV show without me knowing about it. I heard it's terrible. But the biggest news was the unexpected passing of Akira Toriyama.  I won't echo my thoughts more than I've stated before. We all know his legacy is immortal. Still, I hope Japan does something amazing to honor him.

 BoonBoom 01: We're All Cranked-Up & Ready To Go!  Well, this was definitely a mixed salad of sorts! Based on the heroes, I get the feeling that this show may be story driven. Some comedy, sure, but it won't be enough to cripple or hold back the main storyline. If that's true, then it's spiritually similar to TurboRanger without directly copying. The monsters definitely have the same energy as the ones from CarRanger. The giant fight had the same energy as Go-Onger. Furthermore, I am surprised how they managed to fit so much into the first episode! This how you make 23 minutes feel like an hour. But before I get too attached, I need to see at least one more episode...

 BoonBoom 02: Take a Rad Right.  There's not much more to say than what I did last time. This episode simply explores what the BoonBoomgers do as civilians and what kind of status quo we can expect from the show. No time for story, so it's really hard to say how much more we should expect. They really just go full-speed ahead with the story; you either keep up or get left behind. For now, I will say thank you to the fansubs for calling them Boon Red/Blue/Pink instead of going for all the different romanizations of “Buun”. And while I have seen this combination before, I am glad that BoonBoomger is cementing the idea of Red, Blue, and Pink as the main three rather than Red, Blue, and Yellow like we've seen a million times. Lastly, I am glad the show is taking its time introducing the other two rangers. Sure, the ED theme kind of gives it away, but the fact they are taking their time makes me feel like there is plenty to stick around for.

 Gotchard 24: Remember to Forget!  Yep. Mark this one as a bad episode. It commits the sin of the “How We Got Here” trope. Showing us a glimpse of the third act did NOTHING to enhance the experience other than give us spoilers; therefore it's a sin. When we get to the third act that was teased at the beginning, it just becomes a cliffhanger, therefore our reward for going through this episode was practically nothing. Another sin of storytelling. Worst of all, it's a clipshow. Now I normally say a clipshow is fine if you also throw in some new lore or story information, anything that makes the plot feel like it's still progressing forward. They ALMOST did that! They almost explained something about their professor-turned-traitor. But the story intervened before that could happen, so we got NOTHING! They dangled a plot thread over us for nothing. They're saving all the good stuff for the next episode. Another sin. Strike three. You're out!

 Gotchard 25: Steamy Results!  Part of me expected them to use the Warptera card to warp over to the Academy and take their cards back. Did not happen, but okay. However, I did not expect Rinne's father to just reappear! Kind of random and anticlimactic. Hope there is a story to explore there. We almost got the professor back, but that didn't happen either. Gotta say, I don't mean to bash anyone's mental trauma, but the professor is kind of an idiot if he really has internalized the death of his classmate and blamed himself. It clearly wasn't his fault, it was Geryon. I was kind of expecting more out of this reveal. The show made it look like Geryon tried to gaslight the professor into that internalized blame, but the execution was weak. They really should have played up the manipulation element. Perhaps if we hadn't wasted time on a flashback episode, there would have been more time to flesh that backstory out.

Tonight ends on a sad note for me. 

Life is not a movie, but wow the foreshadowing...

Earlier this night, I was sharing an awesome moment with some friends. We were streaming anime and watching as a group. They were the season finales of two different shows, and they were wonderful. I was riding high on some very positive feelings. I was not expecting the news that was about to drop.

It was revealed tonight that Akira Toriyama, creator of franchises like Dragon Ball, Chrono Trigger, and Dragon Quest, has passed away due to medical reasons at the age of 68. Way too young to go...
This hurts. The world wasn't ready to say goodbye. I may post my thoughts about it on the forum proper, but for now, I am just sad over his passing.

Thank you for the memories, Toriyama-sensei. Your legacy will be immortal.

Sorry this update is a day behind.  I can explain, my crowd~ Let's review the week we just finished.

 There was no real big holidays to celebrate. The biggest reason I was delayed was because Sunday was kind of all-over-the-place. My uncle wanted to spend time with me. My family got together to look into many different options for tearing down my mother's old garage. I'm working on some projects. I just ran out of time to make this update. 

 But there was some good things that came out the week. I saw the announcement trailer for One Punch Man Season 3; so that's happening! And my uncle bought me some shirts that... In all honest, I didn't need. But they were such good-looking, high quality shirts that I simply could not turn them down.  Would have gotten more, but I didn't want to eat up all his money. It was nice that he was getting me that much to begin with.

 King-Ohger 49: The Greatest Rebellion Ever!  Now that is easily the most honorable rebellion I've ever seen. They reject royal orders to save and stand by the kings they care so much about. They don't stand a chance against the enemies they are fighting, yet they are proving that true peace can be achieved when all hands are working towards the same direction. Any side or supporting character that you might not have cared for before, now stands tall with their story arc coming to the best moment ever. And also, one last hoorah from the fallen elders and friends before the current kings stand back up one last time. Fight on, King-Ohger!

 King-Ohger 50: The Kings & Their Kingdoms!  And thus, the story comes to an epic finale! Fans of shows like Gurren Lagann and Kill La Kill will find some familiar ground with an ending like this. People who like well-earned happy endings will like this. In fact, there is something about the ending that reminded me of Power Rangers, but obviously this was done with WAY MORE grandiose style. I am trying my best not give away spoilers. All I can say is, a show and a finale like this deserves to be treated like royalty!

 [ 1 / 2 ] And now for my final thoughts on the entire series of King-Ohger... When the title Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger dropped, I cringed just as anyone would. The full title basically says King three times. The fansub team had to translate it as “Royal Sentai King-Ohger” just to soften the blow. And then there was the CGI-heavy, green screen-heavy effects of the first episode or two. Sure it was in service of creating locations and creating a fantasy setting that just don't exist easily in modern-day Japan, and the CGI was a higher caliber than we've ever seen from Sentai before, but it was still distracting. Even so, for a questionable beginning, the writers were really able to bring us back on board by proving that there was passion and ambition behind the story and characters. Basically, this show could have been a comedy or a hot-mess from the start, but they instead presented us with something genuine and sincere. In fact, MANY episodes were like that! Just when you thought they were about to be too silly or too comedic, they pull it back and make it meaningful again!

 [ 2 / 2 ] They really went all in with this, going for a story-driven serialized show instead of the usual episodic stuff. They made a crossover that might be fully 100% canon and possibly changes the game on how Sentai handles its universe going forward. The team got their name from their giant robot, which is rare and unique, and the suit design was the most armored Sentai suits I've seen in a while. Normally it's Kamen Rider that has a base suit that armored. And while there are some moments that could have been handled better, they are such minor nitpicks that it's not even worth remembering; that's how solid the narrative is! This is the best kind of bait and switch, make you think the show will be dumb based on the name, then turn it around with something surprisingly awesome and solid! And as we pass the baton off to BoonBoomger, a show that also has a dumb name and a rocky history behind vehicle-based shows, I can only hope this next show follows the same pattern. It's a trend worth keeping.

 NO GOTCHARD THIS WEEK.  I will catch up next time. However, I can at least say that BoonBoomger is getting translated by a fansub group I trust completely. I'll give it a shot next time.

Once upon a time, there was an anime aimed at kids, but it was given an edgy translation that appeals more towards adults when it was dubbed for American audiences. Something, something, cultural differences probably. ...No, I'm not talking about Crayon Shin-Chan. This anime's dub predates that show~! In fact, just like Shin-Chan, it turns there was more than one dub. You can watch and learn here. This is "SUPER MILK CHAN's Ugo Ugo Ruga Retrospect" by RebelTaxi.

Now that's ultimate! 
And thus completes the trilogy of Western-made Ultraman productions. (For now.) Interestingly, the original OP theme was somehow just an instrumental variation of the Japanese theme song. Pretty cool of them to reverse engineer a pre-existing song into a vocal song like that. While there are moments and elements of a classic Ultraman theme present in this song, they are clearly doing something different and unique. I can easily say that this is the turning point where Ultra music starts to branch out into different styles and genres.

I have to read a book, my crowd.  Let's get into it,

 Nothing super major happened this week.  Everything is just on hold again. If anything, I am too busy getting quotes so I can help my mother get her old garage demo'ed.

 There was a new Digital Circus announcement trailer that was pretty funny. And I'm not sure how I forgot about this, but on Valentines Day, it was announced that Kamen Rider GEATS would be getting an official, physical release! Pre-orders are all ready online.  If I wasn't busy budgeting for other things, I would SO pre-order it now. However, it's not even going to come out with a movie attached, it's just the series only. So I think I can wait this time. Happy for this victory, never would have predicted it, but I can wait.

 NO KING-OHGER THIS WEEK.  I am holding off to marathon the final two episodes back-to-back. Hopefully that will give the fansub groups time to decide if they'll be subbing BoonBoomger or not.

 Gotchard 23: Valentines Pain.  Yep, I predicted it. The Chemie was not evil, just misguided. The most surprising thing that came out of this was the last-minute b-plot; a really nice self-love/self-empowerment moment. And I suppose it was great to see Majade get a new super form as well; I hope that keeps happening. But other then that, this episode was very predictable. ...You know, if Chemies can have sentient human forms, this would have become a major plot point in a very different Rider series. I could easily see Zukyumpire as a Chemie that becomes a Kamen Rider, in a similar vein to Chalice from Blade, except with a friendlier disposition. Instead, I am almost certain this might be the last time we see his human form.

"Ultraman Taro" by Taro Takemura and Mizumi Children's Choir.

Ultraman Number Six! 
Admittedly, I know very little of this series. The most I know is that this is the season whey they expanded the lore by introducing Ultra Mother and Ultra Father, incredibly powerful denizens of the Ultra race and the actual parents of Ultraman Taro himself. And you can totally see the resemblance; his horns are quite similar to Ultra Father's horns but his center fin was clearly inherited from Ultra Mother. Also, this season is one of the rare times where you don't even see the Ultra or any of the actors in the OP sequence. Can you imagine that? Practically unheard of!

If you want to know why this was late... Blame my mod duties, my crowd. What can start off as a peaceful Sunday can suddenly turn into disaster real quick.  But let's review the previous week, shall we?

 The biggest thing that happened, technically, was Valentines Day. ... Which was just a normal, nothing holiday for me.  I have no girlfriend right now. Furthermore, I just didn't celebrate that much with my family. My uncle is in severe shoulder pain, and until he gets that fixed (possibly through surgery), there is not much we can do.

 But I did do SOME fun things!  Another episode of Elements of Justice dropped, and it was great! More build up, but still great! And I know I said I wouldn't, but I got a new purple polo shirt for a great deal. And since I needed it, I got a memory card for the Nintendo Switch. Hope 64GB will be enough...

 Let's not forget some big trailers dropped! Hard to believe they are doing it after all this time, but we're getting a Twister sequel. I want to have hope for Wicked, a prologue to The Wizard of Oz; but just from one trailer and the casting choices, this feels closer to something Disney would make. I may not be super excited for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, but I like the dynamic switch up. In the original movie series, they had a strong start with a weak finish. This modern series had a weak start but will probably have a strong finish. And the thing I'm most excited for... X-Men '97! So many great things to look forward to; and Cyclops fans are eating good tonight. 

 Gotchard 21: Overspan.  Well, the natural conclusion was reached. Spanner became a Kamen Rider, even if he's still a loner. He rose up above his own turmoil and is better for it. Gotta say, love the combination of pink and orange. I even like some of the cards that he now uses. And as we all suspected, their teacher might be playing double agent. While this was a strange detour that could have been handled better, it's still a big character-defining moment. I'm hoping the next episode won't be too lighthearted...

 Gotchard 22: Vamp Ire.  You're never off to a good start when the heroes had an off-screen victory, at least not in a show that is trying to tell a bigger narrative. Also, I am going to make a prediction. Zukyumpire is not a Malgum, he is a misunderstood protag about to be blamed for being an antag. At this point, until the story kicks back in, it's just another case of waiting to see the new powers/cards these Riders can handle. If it's two-parters, it looks like we'll get Valvarad showing off new powers in the first half, followed by Gotchard showing off new powers in the 2nd half. Hope I am wrong, though. I don't want Majade to get the short-end of the stick.

 King-Ohger 47: Doomsday Denied!  Again, this is an episode where you enjoy the quality of it more than the story, and it is full of quality moments. We finally see what the alliance was truly formed for. We get to see the many years of planning paying off. We also get to see Racles do something to properly atone for his actions, by taking a stance and connecting to someone. But easily the best part is what happened to Grodie. He denied people the right to live, so in death, those angry souls deny him the right to peace.

 King-Ohger 48: Ragnarocked?!  Speechless! Absolutely speechless! ...Well, mostly speechless. I guess Jeremie's symbol was not actually keeping him alive all this time. Would explain why he is still standing without it, unless they are building up to some other kind of reveal. We got the return of an unlikely character~! The beginnings of an unexpected rebellion~! And Dugded, who was on borrowed time anyways, has decided to jump ahead to the end game. Is this really the apocalypse? ...Well, no. The preview for the next episode confirms as much, but still!!

"Ultraman Ace" by Honey Knights and Misuzu Children's Choir.

Guess I had another Ace up my sleeve. 
While not too wild by comparison, Ace's interesting helmet/mask design paved the way for Leo and plenty of other Ultras like him. Interestingly, Ace originally used two human hosts to transform, a male and a female. Eventually, it defaulted to the male host, but it was still very unique. It would take MANY years in the future before another tokusatsu super hero would attempt to do the same thing.

I want to make a lemon pie and have some BBQ ribs...  Hello, my crowd!

 The biggest thing that happened this week is that my family is finally beginning to settle some legal issues related to the inheritance that my grandparents left behind. It has been a WAY too complicated issue, but I am glad the finish line is finally in sight. 

 But there was some good things this week! First of all, I splurged and spent WAY too much on clothes~!  I hate that I gave into the pressure, but at least I got red pants out of it. I have been needing a pair of those for a long time.

 But OH MY GOSH, the trailers!!  Apparently there is going to be a Moana 2. Hope it's better than the live action one that may or may not happen. Not really a trailer, but it was announced that KakuRanger is getting a 30th Anniversary movie. There's going to be a new TMNT based on the recent CGI movie that came out. Hope the 2D cartoon style is good. I swear, after watching the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer, Marvel and Disney NEED this right now. If their main projects don't connect, they can take a step back and try something different in Deadpool to see if it works. And the biggest news... THE KNUCKLES SERIES TRAILER DROP!!! Let's go~! My boi is finally getting his moment!

 MOTU Revolution: And Crown Thy Golden King!  Yep, had to see it. ... AND I AM SO GLAD I DID!! That was rock-em-sock-em solid! Easily a vast improvement over the previous season. He-Man was given way more chances to shine. The romantic conclusion between him and Teela was perfect. The nods to He-Man lore, the deep-cut character cameos, the casting the well-earned conclusion... It was all so IMMENSELY perfect~! No one felt like they were being side-lined or being portrayed immensely out of character. But that ending though... I REALLY hope someone at Netflix can make the arrangements to get us Adora/She-Ra because that ending was the PERFECT foreshadowing! Even if they have to give the next season another name, I really want this to do well now. It may have had a bad start with Revelation, but they really picked up the ball with this. So satisfied! So glad I avoided all the negative videos out that. 

 NO TOKUSATSU THIS WEEK!   Watching MOTU took up all my free time. But I will hop back into it next week.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, you don't know Jack. 
Since I feel like doing something different~! Filmed in Australia, Ultraman: Towards the Future is an Ultraman show made for American and western audiences first, made with Tsuburaya's help. (Can you imagine if Saban and Toei collaborated to make an American Super Sentai series instead of Power Rangers?) However, the show was given a different name in Japan. "Ultraman Great". Probably to help differentiate him from the other Ultras. Also, this OP theme is exclusive to the JP dub of the show, since the original OP theme was instrumental only. I can't think of many Ultras with realistic-looking ears, but here we are.

 The biggest thing that happened in the previous week was a celebration!!  Earlier in the week, my uncle had a cancer scare. However, the test results came back, and he is officially cancer-free! So happy for my uncle.

 And to be honest, the reason why this post was late is because I saw two movies.  Threw off my schedule.

 But first, time to talk about trailers I saw!  First, there were 2 BoonBoomger trailers. The first was way too CGI heavy, but the other had more practical effects. Still, feels like they are following in Kiramager's footsteps. Sonic fans are eating good with trailers for Sonic the Movie 3 and Sonic x Shadow Generations! The hype is real and I am here for it. Saw another trailer for Ghostbusters Frozen Empire; and this looks even more like the classic spirit of the Ghostbusters than the last movie! Yu-Gi-Oh released some kind of promotional anime short, but it just made me want to see a mixed genre fantasy anime based on the monsters of the game. I think everyone felt the same! Lastly, I saw the last trailer for MOTU Revolution, and... I'm gonna do it! I will be watching MOTU Revolution real soon!

 [ 1 / 2 ] MOVIE TIME!  I recently saw Blue Beetle! Not sure why people are calling this one a bomb. It seems to be getting a mostly positive reception. The story was pretty solid. I rather enjoyed this movie! I was really expecting it to be terrible, but it had heart and pretty good story telling. Most negatives I have are nitpicks. From what I understand, audiences hate it because superhero fatigue and some predictable story elements. I don't go off of that; my fatigue only hits when the story is bad, and this one actually had a good story. For the most part, it's only uncle Rudy and Carapax that get the shaft in this. There is clearly something with Rudy's backstory that we aren't getting, and Carapax's backstory was glossed over way too fast. Again, it's still a good movie, but some elements could have used more screen time. If they had been flushed out more, it would have turned a good movie into a great movie. But for what it is, it's still pretty good. I just don't know if we'll be getting sequel to this or not.

 [ 2 / 2 ] ANOTHER MOVIE!  I also saw The Marvels! There are things I like and don't like about this movie. For the most part, I think this movie succeeded where the previous Captain Marvel movie failed; by giving us characters that are more enjoyable to watch. Personally, that's all I wanted. However, there are some minor bad things that should not be ignored. The story is not told chronologically at first, so that can be annoying to some. We are only getting half a story, since the rest is told in flashbacks. Makes me wonder if the audience needs to see any of the miniseries to be fully caught up, like the Ms. Marvel series or Secret Invasion. I've not heard super positive things, but if these shows are going to be canon, then this is the trade-off.  And while it does hold a positive audience reception on Rotten Tomatoes, it's still considered the worst Marvel movie so far. Lastly, I liked the post-credits scene, but the pre-credits scene just doesn't really inspire me. I feel like it's too little, too late to try and retread the Avengers recruitment. So balance the positive with the negative, and this movie is just... average. I fear the MCU is not doing so good right now.

 King-Ohger 46: Life Unbalanced!  This is the sign of truly good writing. They can take a detail you previously dismissed and suddenly make it a very big deal while still complimenting the main story. It almost makes you wonder how they didn't think about Jeremie/Kumonos' extra long lifespan sooner. The Yellow Ohger made the right call, even if it had an unexpected consequence. However, watching the two of them share a sunset, fighting back tears... It's moments like these that make me afraid of what the next season after has in store.

 Gotchard 20: Spanning Hatred.  This episode had me in the first half, but lost me in the second. This song and dance is kind of repetitive now. We know that being a Malgum is messing with Spanner's thinking. We know he'll be set free. We know he'll eventually turn into a Rider since the new OP sequence kind of spoils that for us. I just wish this wasn't happening all at once. They could have done a better job of slowly building up to this. The execution of these story beats could have been done better. Still, kind of interesting that both childhood Ichinose/Gotchard and childhood Spanner saw things they shouldn't have, intertwining them into their destinies.

Can you spot the difference? 
This show has an Ultraman that is not the original. He may look like it, but he is Ultraman Jack. The design is similar yet slightly different. In fact, I believe that was a a running thing in the franchise, where the average citizens mistake him for the original. That's because his powers and his form are canonically borrowed direct from the original Ultraman himself. So while others might not be able to tell, his closest friends will always know him as Jack. Also, interesting fact, this song is sung by the actor who plays Jack!

SUGE!!! Look at that banner!! 

I recognize most of the OCs in that banner. Probably because I am friends with a good number of them.  I could look at this for hours.

But there is one detail that kind of ruins it. There's this smiling idiot poking his head up on the lower, right hand side. The one with a brown and orange mane, and a white snoot. Is that a curved horn? What is he suppose to be, Japonies? Ew. Stinky doody. What's he doing here?  (Trolololololo, ye-ye-ye-yeh~)

Even so, I am happy to see that banner and I celebrate all who managed to be included in it. You all deserve it.
